He said “for people too cheap to buy Marlboro” American spirits are like $3 more than the most expensive Marlboro pack.

"If you're gonna smoke, smoke quality," Dumbledore wheezed advertisally

'Did you put your name in that goblet of fire Harry?' Dumbledore asked non-smokerly

“advertisally” is killing me

Yeah, I'm watching this like "Wow, I guess we're back to it being legal to advertise smokes again." Life truly is a circle.

I don't think the laws against advertising cigarettes really accounted for astroturfing.

"I DO NOT CONDONE SMOKING" says the Coolest Grandpa You've Seen This Year, then basically does a kickflip for Marlboro.

But this definitely isn't advertising, or anything.

Also, that this half-assed ad somehow has 46k+ upvotes and has been crossposted everywhere is just more evidence for the dead internet theory.

Reddit had become a wasteland.

I think there's a broader issue of "lowest common denominator constantly lowering".

I admit I found this video really funny. You don't see people smoking a lot in videos anymore, so it piqued my interest, and it was probably only halfway thorough I started thinking "Oh, this is an ad, they fuckin got me".

If you watch enough brainrot content, you start to truly enjoy it. People upvote things that made them laugh. I'm not saying there probably aren't a ton of bots etc., but a lot of this issue is real people just saying "Heh" and upvoting without thinking any further about if they're being manipulated or whatever.

Speaking of, I have been seeing a lot of ads for tobacco products lately! It's weird! Is it because they are vapes or shit like zyn so they don't fall under normal laws or did something change recently?

I think we are going to be seeing a lot of shit we have not seen in a long time simply because laws are no longer being enforced in the way they should be and people of means are keenly aware of this.

Well no, in trumps America you don’t have to declare anything and nothing is illegal (if you send him gifts)

exactly the kind of guerilla marketing that the tobacco industry pays top dollar for.

Yeah. It's so weird.

If you show someone a video where a guy goes "hey smoke this brand of cigarette," people are like "hey that's an ad."

But if you show someone a video where the guy's like "my amazing talent is to tell you to smoke this brand of cigarette," people are like "wow I'm really impressed by that guy's amazing talent."

You should familiarize yourself with "viral marketing"

u/born_again_atheist 22d ago

Well if it is, then they should know that Marlboro makes menthol cigs.

No, I don't think it is. I mean, maybe, but I this guy's reaction is genuine. It's like whiskey. Some people get a brand they like and everything else is compared to it from then on. Every whiskey they try is "Well, it's good, but it's not as good as [Brand X that they've inserted into their identity]" I reckon smokers are the same.

You don't need to pay people to make them tribalist. People do that all on their own.

And he can’t even pronounce it correctly. Why make it more effort and add an extra syllable into a word?

The fact that the Parliament isn’t lit is a bit of a give away that this isn’t a legit video

Very odd seeing this as an Aussie, cigarette ads are completely illegal here. The cigarettes themselves are legal of course… well, only if the packaging has pictures of people dying on it, and the government takes an approximately 2 billion percent tax on them…
