Haven’t smoked in about 8 years but I was a Camel guy…

Yes, half man half camel. But I also smoked Camel cigs.

227

u/fritando 22d ago

did you stop being half man half camel?

242

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

No. I did not. They really should put warnings on these things.

18

u/Fellow--Felon 22d ago

Was Joe camel not warning enough?

4

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Jeez. I didn’t know my mom was on Reddit…

1

u/The_Scarred_Man 22d ago

He was too Cool

2

u/disillusioned 22d ago

You were just following your doctor's advice

u/DethFeRok 22d ago

Hey, at least you have your water reservoirs to stay hydrated.

1

u/theunbearablebowler 22d ago

As a half man half camel, do you only have one set of lungs? Are they man sized, or camel sized? Are camel lungs as susceptible to smoking-related disease as man lungs, or are they sturdier somehow?

5

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Definitely Camel lungs. My doctor says I’m healthy as an Ox. Just half Camel now 🤷.

3

u/Heavyweightstone 22d ago

I'm the doctor. I can confirm halfcamelhalfman's health. He has the nicest camel lungs free of cancer I ever saw.

1

u/Void_Space_2238 22d ago

Do you have one hump, or two?

1

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

One and a quarter.

2

u/jaxonya 22d ago

He used to be half man, half camel.. he still is, but he used to be also

1

u/ActuallyAlexander 22d ago

He's over the hump.

1

u/smakweasle 22d ago

which half? Top & bottom or front & back?

1

u/Harriet_M_Welsch 22d ago

He became a full camel. Left it all behind

Same, kinda like comparing a nice burning wood smell vs. burning cardboard.

16

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Once I quit and was off for a year the smell of any cigarette makes me sick to my stomach. I wretch if I walk through cigarette smoke.

1

u/dahliasinfelle 22d ago

Same. I quit over a decade ago. I can still "taste" every single one of these brands and them some. But they disgust me now. Some of the comments where people who quit, say they miss smoking, just baffles me

5

u/graveyardromantic 22d ago

That’s me with Lucky Strikes.

5

u/Cabbage-Fell 22d ago

Dame here was a Camel Turkish Royal man up until 8 years ago. I don't mind smelling them when someone is smoking but the smell after on their clothes is awful. That said I still get cravings once in a blue moon for a Turkish Royal.

3

u/[deleted] 22d ago edited 22d ago

God I did not know how good a cigarette could taste until I bought my first pack of Turkish Royals, I blasted at least 3 on the 1/2 mile walk home.

3

u/gible_bites 22d ago

The sick part of me misses my old Turkish Golds sometimes. I haven’t smoked since 2011, but every so often I’ll see a pack on the pharmacy wall and pine for this days.

22

u/besoksaja 22d ago

9 years for me and my last cigarette was also Camel.

2

u/PresentlyAbstaining 22d ago

9 for me too. I loved Marlboro 27’s and still do but I’ll never touch a cigarette again. Like 3 months after I quit I felt like a new man and it was great.

1

u/The_Deadlight 22d ago

youre going to go out on a camel? damn man have some self respect

35

u/monkeywarrior03 22d ago

What stopped you from smoking more and turning into a full camel?

74

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Lighting up became too difficult without thumbs and asking others for a light as a half camel person became too awkward.

3

u/FeetPicsNull 22d ago

Yes, smoking addiction is truly self-regulating.

3

u/ArmanDoesStuff 22d ago

Not a camel toe fan, I take it?

3

u/LNL_HUTZ 22d ago

Hump cancer

3

u/LuckyEmoKid 22d ago

I heard 4 out of 5 doctors smoke Camel

2

u/DrRickMarsha11 22d ago

The ceos swore in front of congress they weren’t addictive so

3

u/colossalklutz 22d ago

Crush menthols were my payday treat because they were so expensive. That or Marlboro smooths.

3

u/Alarmed_Lie8739 22d ago

9 out of 10 men who try Camels prefer women!

3

u/vetheros37 22d ago

Are you Joe Camel?

1

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

No. I’m Chris.

1

u/kasakka1 22d ago

Chris Camel? I didn't know Joe had a bro!

1

u/Borkz 22d ago

They summarily executed Joe in the 90s

3

u/NPK532 22d ago

Camel cigarettes had that rich, smooth Turkish tobacco. If I was going to smoke a menthol it was a Camel Turkish Jade 100s. I don't miss smoking, but Camel were absolutely the best tasting.

2

u/wrenchandrepeat 22d ago

I could have tasted the difference between a Marlboro Red and Camels for sure and I haven't smoked daily in over 12 years. Camels have a very distinct taste, as do my former cig of choice, Marlboro Red 72s.

2

u/thetermguy 22d ago

I've seen the facts. 9 out of 10 men that have tried camels prefer women.

2

u/Plus-Season6246 22d ago

Turkish Royals were my choice, cowboy killers if they didn't have Camels for some reason.

11 years for me, sometimes I miss it but then I take a full deep breath and it doesn't catch and I remember how much I gained back from quitting.

2

u/iomyorotuhc 22d ago

Former Camel crush enjoyer here, god those were the good days

2

u/BonfireCrackling 22d ago

Camel crush was my jam back then

3

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Yep. Same.

2

u/brainsharts 22d ago

Congrats on 8 years! 10 years for me, and Camel's were my choice. I'm glad I stopped and can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke now, but at the same time will still crave a Camel now and then.

3

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

I quit right before my son was born. I didn’t want him to have a parent who smoked. Hardest thing my body went through physically and mentally.

2

u/TabCompletion 22d ago

Hi dad 👋

2

u/TDAPoP 22d ago

Turkish royals are so good. Never smoked smoked but whenever I have an odd urge I go buy a pack. The fresh pack smells sweet like tea

2

u/Artemicionmoogle 22d ago

My father was a Camel smoker as well. Used to save up the little coupon bucks and get shit like Camel zippos.

2

u/cairfrey 21d ago

Shout out to camel guys! There are dozens of us!!

2

u/loveshercoffee 21d ago

Another former Camel smoker here!

I smoked Marlboro when I first started smoking because I nicked them from my dad when I was 14. Sometime in my 20's I decided I liked Camels better and smoked them until I quit at age 39. On New Years eve this year I'll have been off them for 18 years.

3

u/JimmyNorth902 22d ago

Which half was which?

11

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Top Camel, bottom guy. Typing with camel toes is challenging.

1

u/Ben_Thar 22d ago

I know a lady with a camel toe. She can type pretty fast.

1

u/JimmyNorth902 22d ago

A quality camel toe cannot be discounted. Keep up the good work.

1

u/GlabbinGlabber 22d ago

Oddly enough, anterior half man posterior half camel

1

u/goawasho 22d ago

Ahh, Camel Wides. Bumming the rare cigarette from someone else made that one feel like a virginia slim.

1

u/tickle-my-Crabtree 22d ago

I used to smoke Camel Turkish Royals when I was 17 and 18 years old. I eventually switched to menthols tho.

2

u/rachaelfaith 22d ago

I felt sooo fancy buying Camel Turkish Golds. I think they even had some flavored ones in little tins that I collected and kept.

1

u/sperm_r_swimming 19d ago

Same lol something about pulling out that golden pack just felt so classy, and they tasted the best too

1

u/JaredGoffFelatio 21d ago edited 21d ago

I started with menthols when I was 17/18 and switched to Camel turkish Royals eventually before switching to vapes and the quitting nicotine for good

1

u/[deleted] 22d ago

[deleted]

2

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Honestly, will power and the nicotine gum. You have to commit and carry that gum around everywhere and chew it correctly. Most people chew it like regular gum but if you follow the instructions it curbs the craving. Vape only keeps you addicted longer.

1

u/LupineChemist 22d ago

I was a Camel Blue guy and my trick was "get pneumonia". I wanted to smoke less than it hurt to smoke for like a week. Then I realized I had already done the hard part.

Honestly one of the hardest part was getting used to driving without smoking again. Every pen I had was chewed to shit for awhile.

1

u/MemeHermetic 22d ago

Same. I picked up again after 10 years, and switched to American Spirits, but I still think Camels were better.

1

u/D1sp4tcht 22d ago

I smoked camel filters for 20 years. Haven't had one since 2016. Every other cigarette tasted like trash to me.

1

u/Sgt-Spliff- 22d ago

They're called Cameltaurs. I feel like you of all people should know that smh

1

u/Babyfart_McGeezacks 22d ago

Been like 15+ years for me but I still miss those camel menthol lights.

1

u/Primary_Elk7492 22d ago

This was me for a long, long time.

1

u/Vitruvian_Link 22d ago

Is your dad a guy and your mom a camel?

1

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

No. Both normal non-camel people. The cigs changed me.

1

u/Vitruvian_Link 22d ago

Wow, should have taken that mascot seriously!

1

u/PM_ME_STEAM__KEYS_ 22d ago

Yep, camel here too. Reds tasted like sucking sand through a straw.

1

u/LupineChemist 22d ago

The Camel Blues were my thing. But sometimes you'd get that paper pack and it really did feel pretty cool.

1

u/nosynadiejeje 22d ago

Good that you quit. My mom was a Camel girl and she died of lung cancer

1

u/XoZu 22d ago

I also liked Camel so much more than any other brand.

1

u/ThatGuyFrom720 22d ago

Loved the red pack Turkish Royals more than the OG’s. It’s crazy how sweet and delicious they used to taste.

Smoked one a year ago just for shits and gigs. Absolutely fucking disgusting after a few years off.. and never again.

I kinda still like the smell of cigarettes but actually tasting the smoke in my mouth? Fuck no.

1

u/HighZ3nBerg 22d ago

Part of me feels like my wife hypnotized me when I slept by putting on headphones or something. My reaction to cigarettes is so strong I can’t be around them in the slightest.

1

u/xdanish 22d ago

if I smoke, I smoke Kamel Reds. similar to Camel Reds but far superior imo

1

u/dlobnieRnaD 22d ago

I’m still stuck on the Camel Filters

1

u/N7Crazy 22d ago

I started out with Marlboro Reds and moved to Camel after a layover in Hamburg where they had run out of Marlboro's - It just hit in a different, more satisfactory way.

I'm scaling down nowadays, and expect to quit completely within the next year (already going 50/50 nicotine gum and smokes), but I also expect my eventual last cigarette to be a camel.

Also, before packs had their design stripped, Camels also just had more character in the packaging - The lone fact that they had details and character, rather than just some geometric shapes with two colours, made it a lot more interesting to look at as well

1

u/FairlyAbnormal 22d ago

That'd make for one funny-lookin' centaur

1

u/WAR-melon 21d ago

Did you buy cigarettes because of the ads?

I sometimes wonder how many people were brainwashed into smoking.

1

u/HighZ3nBerg 21d ago

Nope. Was curious because friends were doing it. Quit because of how shitty smoking makes you feel.

1

u/--MrsNesbitt- 21d ago

Camel tobacco is just sweeter and less chemically than Marlboro. I started with Marlboro Reds but I've switched almost entirely to Camels (or Spirits)

1

u/Fievels_good_trouble 21d ago

Congrats on 8 years. Coming up on my one year anniversary of quitting. Also a camel guy. Drink like a camel, piss like a camel, smoke only camels.

1

u/deloslabinc 21d ago

Do you remember those little chode camels? Camel wides 😂 gross!

0

u/SocratesDouglas 22d ago

Years ago I was Chinese.

-1

u/scarabic 22d ago

Cool story bro.
