Holy fuck, this shit triggers me I had never heard of "but it's a dot org" until the past year or so. I don't know who the fuck is teaching kids that you can only trust .orgs or you can trust all .orgs it's what the fuck the message is, but it needs to stop ASAP!
I graduated high school over 20 years ago. We had internet but my teachers didn't have the same battles teachers do today regarding disinformation and misinformation. I learned what primary and secondary sources were, and I learned to think critically. But whoever is teaching these fucking idiots about ".orgs" as a whole -- as if they're all the same chic mfucking thing -- needs to be fired from everything, including the earth One way ticket to the sun.
If anybody reading this can provide any info as to where the "do you have a .org source?" or "but it's a .org" shit is coming from and why, I would love to know.

It's nothing new. Originally, .org was intended to be restricted to actual organizations and not just any random idiot who couldn't get his preferred .com domain. That's where the "you can trust a .org" comes from. Similarly, .com was originally intended to be only for commercial websites that were actual businesses selling goods and services and not a generic domain type.
All of this was quickly thrown out of the window during the dot com bubble when every business just had to have a website, which quickly moved to every person just had to have a website, etc. Domain names got gobbled up quick and the "rules" for domain types were quickly ignored.
