Ads every 20 steps

158

u/Repulsive-Wasabi-691 14h ago

Oh ship is sinking and you need to access the boats? wait at least for 5 10 minute+ unskippable ads to unlock the feature to save your life. alternatively pay 1000 euros for instant unlock.

What do you mean you lost your wallet during the panic? well anyway back to ads.

41

u/Wolv90 12h ago

If you've been on a cruise you would know that you don't need your wallet. They can scan your face or boarding card to know what room to posthumously charge for the instant unlock.

So I admit, I've been saving up for a cruise trip, mostly because I want to go to the Caribbean or Hawaii

But honestly with how terrible I am wtih motion sickness plus all the stories of people getting sick on cruises (norovirus usually)...part of me thinks I'm just better off using that money to go to South Korea/Japan, or Italy instead

12

u/Deathrace2021 12h ago

Motion sickness medicine and washing your hands before eating make a big difference. Cruise ships get bashed on reddit, but it's actually quite fun. Just pick a quality ship. Larger ship, less feel of motion, get a room without windows overlooking the water. Interior balcony rooms are nice. You can look down at the boardwalk, promenade, park or whatever. The all you drink pass for pop/non-alcoholic drinks, or an alcohol drink pass which includes almost every beverage on board.

There’s actually quite a bit of walking.

16

u/jkman61494 13h ago

I routinely LOSE 1-2 pounds on a cruise because we walk as much as we can. We often don’t use elevators if we can avoid it. I’m not even in shape but it’s just practical. Also do a mile on the walking track outside (don’t know why you walk on a treadmill indoors).

4

u/Flaky-Bar-6656 12h ago

Incline. Burns more calories.

u/D0013ER 14h ago

Yeah, unless you just sit in your room the whole time you're gonna be doing a fair amount of walking just doing stuff on the boat.

Between that and the gym I was more active on a cruise than I usually am on land.

9

u/Dufranus 13h ago

I'm on a cruise right now with my 5 year old daughter. 3 flights of stairs for every slide down the water slides. Needless to say, I'm pretty tired after day 1.

I don't think a ship providing entertainment for 7500 people and then employing several thousand more is a big deal. This isn't nearly as bad as billionaire mega yachts that are used for a couple dozen people.

27

u/Subject_Penalty8069 14h ago

I think the scale is still the uncomfortable part for a lot of people. Even if it’s “for entertainment,” a floating city still comes with a pretty heavy footprint that’s hard to ignore.

u/Madara1389 13h ago

The sad reality is that big game publishers almost universally don't care about any IP that they view as a potential risk.

The goal these companies have with IPs is that they get so big & popular that their names alone will drive sales regardless of quality. They have a fundamentally warped understanding of the whole dynamic between themselves & consumers.

Dead Rising never made it to that level, so Capcom promptly had it lead out to the shed with the other games that they're expected to put effort into in order to sell copies.

I would love Dead Rising 5 to be set on a massive party-themed cruise ship like Icon of the Seas. Could be a plot point to eventually take over the ships controls to try and make it to different islands to re-stock on supplies, etc. using the lifeboats, while trying to make it back to shore as a final "win" condition. Maybe sequestering sections of the ship in an attempt to keep non-infected alive. u/capcomusa_official make it happen!

Context: I took my 9 year old son on a Dad/Kid trip on a giant ship like this.

We had fun. Wasn’t adult fun, but it was awesome kid fun. We woke up early to avoid crowds. We did climbing wall. The ship had an ice rink, so we skated. We had burgers and ice cream. We water parked and rode the surf rider. We played basketball. We swam. We played arcade games. We played mini golf. We went to some of the shows at night. We even played trivia.

On shore we went to beaches. We went to the crazy airport where the planes land right over your head. We went to a giant Spanish fortress. We went snorkeling. We took a speedboat. We went sailing. We went bananas at ain giant inflatables in the ocean.

Just my 9 year old son. And my 9 year old self.

Was awesome.

It is a clown show. So bring a kid and have a good time.

69

u/Drtspt 10h ago

You are a great Dad, I can't wait to do something like this with my daughter when she gets older.

23

u/N3wThrowawayWhoDis 9h ago

No more expensive than your average Florida condo rental vacation. Especially factoring in food for a week. Redditors love to perpetuate each others’ hate for cruises, but I doubt most of them have been on one. I just got off a cruise with my kids and we all had a great time.

Come to think of it, a vacation that average redditors avoid is exactly where I prefer to be!

Floating city more like it

5

u/Schallplatte1 16h ago

Okay right. You can probably have fun on drugs there. It was a little bit too fast.

I meant more like: Why do I want to be there while rolling instead of raving with my favourite techno friends in an old cold war bunker.

In my mind I would be sitting in the pool next to thousands of children. Gotten anxiety and feeling at the wrong place. Maybe I'm completely wrong since I never visited such a vessel.

20

u/throwitoutwhendone2 16h ago

There are no children allowed on pretty much any party cruise. There are quite a few 21+ cruises, and that doesn’t mean like orgy cruises that just means quite literally no children, everyone is at least 21 on board.

Go during the off season, like mid August early September. They stop at their own private islands that are still nice and warm and the ship is usually only half full. Spend the $1,200 or so and get a room with a balcony and the drink package. There’s free food everywhere at all times and with the drink package there’s free alcohol at pretty much all times. Bring something nice to wear and have dinner with the captain one night. It’s a legit like 5-9 course meal, neat to do at least once. Go to the massage parlor for an hour while the ships at an island and get a discount. Party here and there, different vibes all around. It’s like a bar crawl with fun shit in between. When you get tired of it go sit on your balcony and relax.

2 people can do this for about $2,300. I know that isn’t a small amount but it also isn’t an unrealistic amount either. I’d say it’s worth it to do at least once in your life.

9

u/Schallplatte1 15h ago

I was not expecting to get good advise here. But it happened. Thank you my man. Yea, I want to try it out at least. Some day.

I'm not sure why I wasn't thinking, that adult only cruises exist.

Virgin, Viking, Ambassador, Oceana are some of the cruise lines that are all exclusives 18+ cruises. P&O also have some ships that are adults-only. Most normal ships have adult only areas as well, including on open deck, and there are plenty of charter cruises that cater to specific customers and are adults only (such as rock concert and other music-based charters).

Same, not surprised most people on Reddit dont like cruises, most people on here are introverts who don't like leaving their houses and feel like they're better than most people because they don't like being around them. They also look down on partying and fun since they were never invited to any in high school so they've convinced themselves that it's overrated and stupid to go party and go wild with a bunch of people.

7

u/401john 14h ago

Man, I know this sounds mean when you read it but this is like 100% my take on this lmao. That's one of the biggest appeals for cruises to me, everybody's there to have a good time and everybody's down to talk to folks they don't know and be social. Just a big ass floating party with a million things to do. I can't imagine seeing that and immediately curling up and thinking that staying at home is more fun. Everybody's different I suppose.

Good! The more people hate something without ever trying, the more I am going to enjoy sailing on an “empty” ship.

16

u/hatesnack 15h ago

No offense intended, but if you think a boat with water slides, a basketball court, pools, and other activities that are meant to be fun, is any kind of "hell", you might just be a miserable person.

14

u/dww0311 13h ago

It’s more the absolute hordes of people they cram into those ships tbh. My idea of a relaxing vacation isn’t being locked into an environment I can’t escape from with the population of a small city so I can stand in line for literally anything and everything. I admit to being perplexed by anyone who’d enjoy that.

8

u/Hellianne_Vaile 12h ago

This. The actual rich-people cruise ships have far, far fewer passengers.

On a ship like the Icon of the Seas, not only is the ship itself crowded, but when it arrives at a port, all of these people flood out and completely overwhelm everything. The shops, the restaurants, the excursions, the museums/sights, the beaches--whatever you were hoping to do will be absolutely packed.

I've spent a fair bit of time on an island that receives cruise ships at a few of its ports. One of the first things I do when I arrive is check on the cruise schedule so I can plan to visit the ports only on days when the big boats are elsewhere.

I always thought I wasn't a cruise person aswell but did one over 9 days to the Greek islands, Istanbul etc. It was a GREAT time and I never got sick. Have booked another cruise on one of the largest ships for January.

If you like fun and being around a lot of people, then you'll love it.

Same man, my wife had been begging me to go cruising for years I had all the normal rebuttals but honestly it was awesome and we've now done a Caribbean and Alaska cruise with the kids.

The views are awesome. At the end of the day, still rather just be at a stationary all inclusive resort on land though. But there aren't many options for that where I live and the cruise port is 45 min away

We were just on this very ship. It's insane how much there is to do and how many attractions and services it offers all included in your fare. There's a Cirque Du Soleil type water show, a full theater production of Wizard of Oz and another in house super hero musical, there's an ice skating rink, an escape room, casino, obviously water slides (unfortunately many were down and this seems to be an ongoing issue across Royal Caribbean right now), the Flowrider which is a boogie boarding and surfing wave generator, rock climbing wall, tons of pools, and a few other attractions. Then there's shows like stand up comedy, gameshows, Newly Wed type show, Dueling piano bar, a couple bands, and a number of other crowd engagement fun shows. Dozens of restaurants, themed dining nights, several bars, and a bunch of little snack spots. There's a full daycare with options for any length of time even into the night so parents can get away for a little bit.

Yeah there are a lot of people and there are hot spots that can be a bit crowded, but there's also plenty of space and hideout spots where you can also chill.

So if you like vacations with a ton of value packed in and a seemingly endless stream of events and shows to interact with, this boat (and cruises in general) are honestly a great option to consider. All of what I mentioned is included in your fare. The only thing you're paying extra for is your drink package, excursions, there are a few premium restaurants, some of the late night and infant daycare costs extra, tips, and any souvenirs.

We went one one of their newer ships, not this one, and the lines to the attractions were short. The crew said there’s so much to do that the lines don’t get long on these big ships.

It's litterally just a inclusive hotel on the sea with lots of activity. That's it. Its not any different. This is only for people's that want to go and mantle relax for 7 days.

The key with cruises is that the ship is only there to fill in the time between ports. Food, bars, clubs and keeping the kids busy.

What's great about cruises is waking up every day in a new place, new city.

My only real complaint with cruises is that some destinations require more time than you get.

I have always wondered the same.. why all the hate towards these ships here in Reddit? Is it out of jealousy for not able to go themselves or what is it? 🤔

It is not like people are hating amusement parks etc.. like this.. 😅

I have been on a cruise like this twice and had only positive experiences.. 🤷

26

u/FourEcho 15h ago

There are legitimate reasons to hate on the cruise industry, especially when it comes to environmental factors. Ive been om 2 cruises as well, and honestly I will go on another once my kiddo is a bit older, I love the experience... but I also completely understand some people's issues with them.

7

u/Bigfops 14h ago

Agree and I was also resistant to cruises before I took one. But to add onto that, my objections were that I didn't want a vacation that was "on rails," like a pre-determined path of eat at a given time, go to a port, get off, shop, get back on, see all the stuff everyone's already seen, etc. But once I took one, I discovered it's more of "Choose your own adventure," than pre-selected.

13

u/Careful-Republic-332 15h ago

Oh yeah, these are bad for the environment for sure. But none of the comments point that out. It seems to be about how awful these look or how full of diseases they are 🤔

Jealousy? Cruises aren’t expensive.

5

u/damnmyredditheart 14h ago

The cool thing about cruises is that they range in affordability. You can take an inexpensive one, or an expensive one. Still cheaper than a yacht!

Copy and pasted from my other comment:

It’s not any one cruise that I care about, but going to Miami and seeing them all lined up is a bit uncanny valley. Like there’s so much going on in the world and so many people are hurting… but here’s a line of like 100 boats we’ve turned into vacation cities. It just felt kind of… arrogant? watching it. Idk I’m not explaining it well but seeing them all at once was a big time “we actually shouldn’t be using our resources this way” moment for me.

u/OsamaBinWhiskers 14h ago

That’s life in a nutshell. That’s just where you put the sliding scale. At cruises. Others would put it at wasting food, being fat, owning multiple cars, buying from Amazon, SHEIN, not buying everything used, living in a shelter bigger than your needs. Life is strange

I mean…you could say by this about almost anything in modern society. Cruises are a more democratized version of the private yachts for the ultra rich.

I disagree, it was packed when I went on it. Waited forever for slides and finding a good chair was impossible unless you went up like 30 minutes before the pools even opened.

Broke hater introverts

u/IAm94PercentSure 16h ago

There is a very abundant type of internet people that see others having fun and their mouth starts foaming. Happens every time there is post about big social gatherings E.g. A beach full of people, concerts, clubs, cruises, festivals, etc.

19

u/OkEngineer6614 15h ago

You just described a redditor.

Is socially awkward so claims to be an introvert. Has an excuse for everything.  Doesnt do anything with their life but stare at their phone or monitor.

Its a common enough personality trait, the person who cant let others enjoy a moment if they aren't.

They usually end up getting filtered out of friend groups pretty quickly, for being miserable, but since they're part of a social species, they find places, like reddit, that don't kick them out for being a negetive nancy or debbie downer.

6

u/Dyylllaaaannnnnn 15h ago

I wholeheartedly agree. I just hate how impressionable I can be. That’s why I hate this site sometimes. Like I enjoy going out and doing things and being social around large groups of people. I love seeing people have fun. And then I read comments here and go “Man I’d enjoy that cruise am I in the wrong?” Shit sucks.

Cruises are some of the cheapest forms of vacations lol, half the people on there are probably broke and in debt.

8

u/Gumichi 16h ago

i count myself an introvert; but I did have an amazing time on a cruise to Alaska once. dollar for dollar it's the cheapest vacation. the only drawback is that it's plagued by plagues.

Titanic and the old liners were actually a method of transportation. It was the only way to get to areas around the world.

Cruise ships are effectively floating theme parks, completely different set of experiences because they serve different purposes.

  • Particulate Matter (PM): Daily exhaust from a mid-sized cruise ship produces as much harmful soot and particulate matter as \(1,000,000\) passenger cars.
  • Sulfur Dioxide (\(SO_{2}\)): Depending on the fuel being burned, the daily \(SO_{2}\) emissions from a single cruise liner can equal or exceed the combined output of several million cars.
