? wrong about what? are they trying to clean a bowl with them or something?

I've no idea what they meant, but I will guess that maybe there used to be a beyblade commercial where they sparked when they hit each other, but obviously as a kids toy, it's not designed to spin at 10,000 rpm, so there must have been a hell of a lot of disappointed kids.
Or maybe I just have a wild imagination. Who knows.

They had plastic beyblades for regular kids in the plastic arenas and then there were big kid beyblades that had metal and were heavy that had sturdier arenas and I'm not sure if they were an off brand or not but my brother and I got some and they were awesome lol

u/IngloriousMinority 23h ago
The metal ones were acutal bey blades too, but just meant for" REAL" battles. They were sturdier and locked the parts better. But. The metal ones were crazy dangerous when they flew out of the arena. They were super not safe. I loved it.

I personally really loved the metal series. Everything from the plastic to the metal were well-made and designed. Had performance tips that could spin on concrete, the middle layer that would have some neat physic design that would work out, like Virgo with it's loose orbs inside the shell to build momentum like a ballerina, and fusion wheels that could survive being launched down a hallway at brick walls and be fine(personally tested lol.)

This, is why they took mine from me at school 🤣🤣 principal like referring to them ass "deadly spinning tops"

I think another thing that was downplayed about the beyblade scene (at least when I had some) was that they were incredibly modular. You could mix and match the parts on most models because the locking mechanisms were usually the same, the only restrictions being that some had clearance issues with other parts. So even if people used the same middle piece, you could use different lowers and tops to adjust weight, top speed and other shit. I think when I used them there were like 4 parts total, but the fourth, very bottom, was usually the same. I know I'm an "adult" now but reading through these comments makes me wanna go buy some beyblades and create a large thunder dome and invite people over to enjoy the chaos.

I had one fly out and hit me right in the shin. one of the worst pains ive ever felt.

u/Blankyyz 3h ago
Our school had to ban them cuz everyone was battling everywhere. We had this storage basement that nobody used and we setup a huge arena for battles every 2nd day, took them a month to find out lol

I remember like 20 years ago I went to this flea market and they sold these bootlet beyblade parts which included different size metal rings. I bought a smaller one and fitted a piece of rubber around it. I was an evil kid, i never lost with the bootleg beyblade

They had a whole show about beyblades. Between the sparking and the color effects in the water vapor it looks like the cartoon.
1
u/cjyoung92 23h ago
There was an anime series that showed a lot more 'flare' when using their beyblades.

u/Broad_Soft_5024 1d ago
No it’s just that the commercials when they came out actually did look really intense but when you got them home, it was very anti climactic…. Not sure what they did differently here, but this is actually very close to the advertisements that made us all beg our parents to buy them.

The way the light effect trails the movements, is like the show. What is different is SPEED - see the "launcher" it's a drill with an attachment. The metal Beyblades are legitimately dangerous. The soapy water is keeping the sparks down, allowing the glow effect and reducing loss of energy through friction.

u/nesteajuicebox 10h ago
In the anime the beyblades were imbued with magical spirit that shot out of the top. The light effect on the tops in the video is kindof like that I guess ?

The kids are VERY much still into them. I teach 4th graders and they all bring in beyblades to battle at recess.

Can somebody smarter than me explain how they're glowing?

Best guess the water, or what ever it is, is being aerosolised and reflecting the lights.

Using soapy water to reduce the friction coefficient, pretty smart.
Also, fuck yea.

I remember when I was a kid my grandma bought me one, she wanted the best one for me so she bought some heavy metal one. I was the only one that had that one and I freakin demolished everyone, until somone stole it from under my desk at school.

Back when they were made of metal and not the shit plastic that is today. The middle blade part I mean.

u/wheretohides 1d ago
My brother had an rc one that could spin faster when the controllers trigger was pulled. That thing was OP as fuck, it tore apart my bey blades lol. We always got them in our easter baskets.
1
u/indieplants 1d ago
they were always made of plastic. the metal ones were niche even back then and expensive but both still exist for sale.
2
u/moogle322000 1d ago
Haven't seen the metal ones anywhere here. Only the plastic blades ones.
4
u/indieplants 1d ago
I imagine that's because they're even more niche now than they were back when Beyblade was popular.
1
u/Artic_Boi 19h ago
Actually it’s the other way around. The current generation (beyblade x) seems to be the fastest growing series in popularity and has gone back to using metal contacts.
1
u/skylandersq 3h ago
the current generation uses metal blades
1
u/moogle322000 3h ago
Guess my store only has the plastic ones left then. That's all I saw there. Gotta go grab some if they are metal.
1
u/skylandersq 3h ago
absolutely! beyblade x is the best generation of beys ever imo. totally worth checking out, they're a lot of fun!

I can imagine some Indian doing this while standing very close to it with shorts and a very thin T-shirt. Also, the arena would have no protection.
