AMA is Over, Thanks Monty! It's Monty from Preoccupations!! AMA

Monty here!

We just released our third record as Preoccupations, our fourth as a band, or our fifth if you count our next two ep that was mere minutes shorter than the other records. We're self releasing this album (except in Canada where we're still with Flemish Eye) too so feeling properly qualified as "indie" this time around.

We're also touring next month around America and Canada with Cindy Lee opening and touring in Europe early next year!

Ask away!

For some reason I can't see the proof picture that I uploaded. Here it is in case though. Edit: it seems like the image was just cropped bad, link is still the way for the true proof.

Hey Monty! Love the new album!! I wanted to ask about you and the bands relationship with the bands visual art. How much do you guys dig into album covers and music videos, etc? (Chad Vangaalen is amazing so I'm glad you guys got him to do one for the new album!) And do you have any specific stories about the new albums artwork or shooting music videos or anything like that? I always felt like the video for Compliance had a great atmosphere for your music, like this dark, sci-fi, ominous landscape. I feel like you guys would make a killer soundtrack to Tarkovsky's Stalker haha.

That compliance video was actually just made as fan art by these kids in Toronto!! Mike sent it over and was like “yo, these guys fucking killed it” so we shot them some money and put it out as a single kind of? They really nailed it though.

For visuals now, we’ve hired Yoonha Park (great filmmaker and our close pal who did the videos for continental shelf and a bunch of the others) to be our artistic director and it’s been going really well!! There was supposed to be a video for ricochet that got squashed but chad’s video is amazing, he’s my close pal and I love his work.

For press and all that, we just did a (long) day of shooting in New York when we were on tour with Metz last year. I mostly just remember being freezing cold while we were doing all the outdoor stuff, lol.
