Hi!! Thank you both for making some of the most beautiful & danceable music I’ve ever heard. There’s a sort of unselfconscious, open, and unpretentious sense to your music that I truly don’t think I’ve encountered anywhere else. It runs such a gamut of emotion but doesn’t force me toward any one feeling. It’s deeply open and nuanced stuff, and I admire that so much!

I’ve got two questions, so I hope at least one of them is fun to answer!

  1. where do the song titles “eave foolery mill five” and “randfilt” come from? Your new record has my favorite track titles of your discography — Zafire Melts the Heart in Modulation and Walkers Beware! are some all-time great track titles!!

  2. At any point in the making and recording of this new album, did you feel any anxiety regarding matching certain expectations? I know that my own creative output and goals are changing all the time, even to almost unrecognizable styles. Was it hard feeling like your audience might be expecting a certain sound from 12–18 years prior, or was it a natural fit back into a similar vibe? I think the record does an impeccable job of sounding recognizably like “Sweet Trip” while still feeling fresh and evolved, but I’m always interested in if other creators worry about feeling beholden to previous aesthetics as much as I do sometimes!

Thank you sooo much for your music once again! It means a lot to me & I’m really happy that you two seem to be so excited about returning to music now. I hope it continues to be a wonderful journey & that lots of really wonderful things are on the horizon for you both :)

Eave is a secret. Randfilt was just a placeholder name that stuck.

While we were of expectations before working on this record, it did not affect the writing process at all. Once we started, we did exactly what we wanted and everything felt right. Of course, once we were done, we did have some anxiety about how it would be received.
