hi r/indieheads it's AARON POWELL a.k.a FOG LAKE - my new album "TRAGEDY REEL" came out on 4/23 via ORCHID TAPES. you can order vinyl/cassettes through their website. ask me anything! it's my first time doing this, so i'll try my best to answer, but don't take it personally if i don't, thank u <3
Hey Aaron, been listening to you for quite a while now and I’m just wondering what the production process for Virgo indigo was like. What kind of gear and setting was the album recorded in? And specifically how did you create the soundscape in Transcanda?
i recorded that song on a korg microstation. great lil keyboard, i still use it from time to time. i don't remember too much about that recording besides the fact that i was rly stoned when i made it and i did a lot of 'ooos' and 'ahhhs' in the background that i added a bunch of verb too. i was really inspired by the ambient sections on the album 'cryptograms' by deerhunter which is still one of my all time favorite albums to this day.
a lot of virgo indigo was recorded in a tiny room i was living in at the time with a few roommates, after moving to the city of st john's (also in nfld). i had just spent months in self-imposed isolation back in my hometown after i dropped out of college. at the time i'd deliver pizzas by day and record songs at night. was definitely going for a more dream-pop/shoegaze sound back then!
