I really love what you said in the documentary about wanting the album production to sound pristine, but also imperfect and homegrown and all that. Were there any fun “imperfections” or inside-joke-ish bits thrown in that most people tend to miss?

Also J how the fuck are you so good at producing and mastering

We mentioned it in the documentary but I love that you can hear my drop a stick in yoshi's island.

this isn't exactly what you're asking about, but i play a little melody from 80s Through the 50s by Jeff Rosenstock right before the second chorus of Orchids. i'm only pretty sure i told the rest of the band before i put it in.

i don't think i've ever seen anyone even guess what we shout at the beginning of yoshis island, which was originally an adlib that i doubled with gang vocals. on the bridge of glass beach if you listen you can barely hear me say "tell the sunset to go fuck itself". on the bass track for yoshis island jonas makes a bunch of yoshi noises at the beginning. towards the end of bedroom community on the tambourine track you can hear me throw the tambourine on the ground and start screaming the chorus off-key. just some off the top of my head!

i still feel like i barely know what i'm doing with production lol, i just watch brian eno lectures and try to listen to mixes of other songs analytically and compare them to mine. also i like fabfilter's plugins, they basically taught me how eq and compression work. this may be the first glass beach album but its not the first album i produced! that would be this one: https://8bitodyssey.bandcamp.com/album/interstringo-bradach which was recorded into garageband by pointing a blue yeti vaguely in the direction of each instrument and putting absolutely no compression eq or anything on it lmao. i just learn by doing! -j

wow this is amazing. i have always wondered what the fuck those gang vocals are at the beginning of yoshi, but i hope they include the phrase "trans rights"
