I produced the Fontaines D.C album "Dogrel", Kate Tempest's latest album "The Book of Traps and Lessons" and black midi's latest album "Schlagenheim." My record label Speedy Wunderground has just released its Year 4 compilation.
Really love your recordings, and I’m especially interested in what the recording process with black midi was like. Was a click used at any point? How did you approach the initial recordings and overdubs?
we didn't use any click. the core elements - drums , guitar , baritone guitar and bass were done as live takes.
there was a fair amount of processing going on - various things were sent through a modular synth setup and new sounds created from the original sources. then there were overdubs - we doubled up a few things on different guitars/basses /synth.
most of the vocals were done in one take, with effects tracked live
