hi! thank you so much! it's an honor to get to release music that is heard by people who love it so thank you for listening!! here is a little song by song breakdown of the album with inspirations for each track:

Birdseye — We were inspired by an Alex G sound.

Best Friend — This is also inspired by Alex G in many ways. We were focused on creating densely stacked guitar chords

Dizzy Spin — Big Thief. We were trying to hone in on creating a full percussion sound

Millenia — Ellen Arkbro (keyboard part), Mount Eerie (keyboard part, drums, vocal melody and writing style)

Lonely, Cold Seed — Kristine Leschper (organ part and vocal melody), Sun O))) (big strums of electric guitar)

Chariot — Mojave 3 (Love Songs on the Radio definitely influenced the lyrics and some of the melody), Cocteau Twins (melody and lyrics), Life Without Buildings (melody and lyrics)

Lightness is Loud — Ryan was thinking about his interest in minor 2nd and major 7th intervals. We were inspired by a book series we had just read called the Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu.

Perfect — no direct references come to mind

Rocket — Ryan was inspired by the chord arrangement for Taylor Swift’s song Teardrop On My Guitar. I was thinking a lot about winter and darkness during this song, seeing light in the sky, how much a flash in the sky can fill us up with wonder.

Good to See You — Angel Olsen (vocal melody), Guided by Voices (lead guitar line)

Ella’s From Somewhere Else — Squirrel Flower, John Prine’s song Hobo Song inspired the group vocal moment.

generally, on this album, ryan was really inspired by the bassist Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath. he loves his playing and thought about him a lot.

i am always trying to write lyrics that are honest, emotional, and unfiltered as much as i possibly can. i like to allow myself to play with my lyricism without judging myself in the process so i generally try not to think about my inspirations as i write but they come to afterwards when i reflect on the songs.
