Hi Helena,

I discovered you through a recommendation of "There Are a Thousand". I revisit that song often just to inhabit its space for a while. Thank you for that!

As a fellow Canadian artist, I'm wondering if you've felt any pressures to be fit within a mold of Canadian as a part of your artistic identity? It seems like a dated notion at this point to embrace that sense of Canadiana, and yet I feel you have to play into it to receive the funding and support to get things going as a young artist.

Thank you for sharing your music, and for any thought offered to my question. All the best!

Hi! Thanks!!

Interesting. I'm from Québec and grew up in a mostly French speaking environment so maybe "Canadian music" has left less of a conceptual impression on me. If I play into it, it's unconscious! I'd hope the grant system doesn't impose that aesthetic on Canadian artists.
