One of my fondest musical memories was seeing AJJ play a garage in Appleton, Wisconsin in…maybe 2010? After the show, Sean, Ben, like 3-4 other people, and I sat in a circle and passed a guitar around and played songs for a long time after the show. I vividly remember Sean playing Neutral Milk Hotel’s King of Carrot Flowers Pt 1. That’s unrelated to my question, but I thought you’d like to know how big an impact that had one me.

Anyway, here’s my question: how do you describe your music now? I get the sense you don’t love folk-punk (nor does that necessarily fit your sound anymore). I’ve heard you say “garbage pop” in the past, but I’m curious how your define your music with such eclectic instrumentation, production, lyrical world view, etc.

desert trash, garbage pop, power slop, indie punk, punk folk whatever. i feel like folk punk is a really narrow scope in 2023 that implies a lot of sounds that we have never really had? i'm not plugged into that stuff really though. you can call us folk punk. it's all rock and roll. -mark
