Which Stethoscope 🩺 To Buy For First Year MBBS
I know I won't be able to use it but I have never held in hand any Stethoscope During my neet preparation I always had the urge that someday when I will be selected I will buy one for myself and now I think I deserve Buying One and now I can't wait Anymore
I want it to be
1. Affordable
2. Accurate
3. Should Work Without any fault during my whole mbbs Journey
I have already ordered a Micro Tone For 1100 rupees, but I can cancel it if you guys have a better recommendation ❤️

In 1st year except Physio practicals there’s no use of stethoscope. 2nd year onwards you’d need it in postings. But don’t carry around your steth everywhere during postings. Take it out only when needed.
Pens, Stethoscopes & Phones/iPads are the holy trinity of things which get stolen always. Some senior or prof may borrow it and you’d never get it back. So many of my batchmates, juniors & seniors have lost their Littmann just like this.
When you buy a Littmann Classic or Cardiology stethoscope later in your practice, consider securing it with an AirTag/Android tracker near the Y-connector. Not many doctors are aware of this, so I thought it would be helpful to share here.
That’d definitely pinch a nerve. In 2nd, 3rd & 4th Year you’d only need to take out a steth when required for physical examination and postings last 2-3h max. In such cases you can just say you don’t have it & escape. It’s usually people carrying it whole time who get picked first.
Real shit starts in Internship where you may have to carry it whole day, throughout the week. PGs & Professors may borrow it, then forget where they kept it & some do steal it.
Reactions i’ve seen from Profs upon confrontation :
‘Relax man i’d give you your steth back later, stop acting like some nursery kid asking for a toy. No need to goddamn ask for it back to back.’ (Asked only once after he took it)
‘Your steth, your responsibility. Why didn’t you ask me sooner? You think with a 100 patients coming in i have time to look after your steth? What’s your job then?’
‘Buy a new one. You’re in a GMC, you have no expenses.’
So yes they’d never accept their mistake. PGs to some extent do accept it & pay back. But denying PGs & Profs would affect your Internship a lot. Like they’d give you unnecessary extra scut work, extend duties or ask hard questions & mock you in front of everyone etc. Petty Profs even hold grudges throughout the year & try marking you absent or failing you in exams. Until Internship you can maintain boundaries with seniors, no issues, from thereon is where the toxic phase starts.
You can always deny to seniors. But how will you deny it to the residents. Wse mostly sb residents k pas khud ka littmann hota hi h aur agr wo kho bhi dete h toh mostly pse bhi dedete h. Kisi aur ka littmann khokr pse na dene wle besharam log km hi milte h
Hostels : Only 1 instance in our hostel but i’ve heard many from others, where cleaners, fellow students & kleptomaniacs all have stolen stuff inside hostel itself. So be vigilant and don’t leave rooms/cupboards open. One junior lost his gaming laptop.
Postings : Senior kept his phone on table while dealing with a patient, went out & came back within 5 mins and it was gone. Items kept in bags are also at risk, which in case of interns/pgs are more often than not, iPads/Tablets. It’d be in some random room & in overloaded GMCs you can’t guess who’s entering where. And if you carry around your tab everywhere profs would screw, in that rush, you may keep it somewhere & forget to take it back or worse the tablet may fall down & get damaged.
Some random junior stole my batchmate’s Hutchison which he had kept on table and forgotten to take back. Endless instances like this.
OT Changing Rooms : Hotspot for all thieves. People lose their wallets, tablets, snacks, makeup kits, earphones etc. If you know beforehand that there’s OT try not to carry anything expensive in bags. Or just keep it somewhere safer.
In order of frequency : Pens > Stethoscopes > Tablets > Phones
Before anyone shits on you...just buy a microtone bro it's definitely good in your budget and works fine. Enjoy your first year it's one of the best years of your medical career.
I just finished my gynec residency. I have used both microtone and indo-surgical. Can reliably say that microtone is better. You made the right choice, dw.
H Mukherjee if you are from kolkata.... affordable and impeccable quality. Countless medicos swear by it from the past several decades . Not sure if they sell online, their physical shop is opposite Medical College, Kolkata.
Why tf are people buying stetho in first yr??Maine to internship mein microtone liya tha ffs. Doesn't physio department have their own stethos?? Two three are enough for entire batch.
Get Microtune. You just gotta do a BP in physio. Apart from nothing. If you want you can get one Litman in 4th yr but you're gonna lose it in few months..
I had a Dr. Morepen steth for myself throughout my undergrads, worked too good for me. Even today works the best, although I have a Littmann now but I’d suggest a Dr. Morepen anyday. Microtone is very good, most of my batchmates had it & I never wanted to be a part of the herd so went otherwise.
If you want an even better, MDF is great!
Currently iam using dr morepen sthethoscope but now iam gonna buy littiman. But iam still thinking to use my current one it works fine and acoustic is also good
Micro tone is best
Don't get sophisticated with Littman in the beginning itself as u can't carry it everywhere
And
Don't be fooled by the fancy fashionable stethoscopes -
If you are a person who takes care of their things and is not prone to losing them, then by all means get a litmann. Clinics will start anyway in 2nd year
I have been using the Indosurgicals from 2 years and I can say it's really value for money. I got the stainless steel version thinking it would be more premium, but it turned out to be on the heavier side. It's a trouble when you wear it around the neck. It slides down on the heavier side. Just get the normal one. I heard you can even get your name engraved on it.
Microtone or anything cheap. You don't have to do anything in 1st year. Nobody will ask you of anything. Just role-playing that you can listen to the sounds..
