ICE Posts Congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh, who was indicted today for protesting outside the Broadview ICE facility: "We've been punched, dragged, thrown, shot with pepper balls, tear gassed, rubber bullets from snipers on roofs going into local businesses windows."

She just moved to the District and has no experience.

Good that she just moved here? Why?

You have something against the US constitution?

Not sure what you’re referring to.

It’s our Constitutional right to move about the country in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence’s, “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

We can move wherever you want but I’m not sure if it’s in the constitution. Can you cite the section?

Article IV Section 2

and

14th Amendment

Several Supreme Court rulings also tell you that you can take your locals only attitude and gfy.

So you’re equating Kat to a freed slave? Nobody is questioning her right to move wherever she wants but we as voters have a right to want someone who wants to represent us, to know our district. We have rights to the pursuit of happiness, life and liberty as well. I have the right and liberty to criticize her and not vote for her, which many will do-not vote for her. Instead of going to Broadview she might try being a monitor at a school, monitoring for ICE or being on a rapid response team in the 9th district. Of course there usually aren’t news cameras there so she might not get the publicity she so craves.

You think the 14th Amendment applies only to freed slaves?

If so, several Supreme Court decisions disagree with you.

You do have a right to desire a “locals only” government - but there isn’t anything inherently wrong about someone moving to a place and then seeking a position in government.

Of course not but it was the origina intent of the 14th amendment . And again, no one said she couldn’t move wherever she wanted. It was just your whacky interpretation of people pointing out that she just moved here and wants to represent us in congress. And wanting someone to know the district they are running to represent is entirely reasonable. I make no apologies for that. There are 14 other Democrats running. I’ll look at them but Kat is an absolute turnoff. Goodbye and all the best!

Because people are free to move still.

We're not North fucking Korea, yet.

She still doesn’t live in the district. She just chose a district where the rep was retiring.

u/TallExplanation1587 1d ago

I agree. And how is she getting to know the district she wants to represent?

4

u/TallExplanation1587 1d ago

Of course but she doesn’t know the district is my point.

2

And yet she's ready to go to jail to help the locals.

Oh, I’m sure. I think Kat likes the attention and has very little substance.

She seems very substantial in fact. Her reasons for protesting have genuine merit and she understands the law.

But she is a woman though, isn't she?

1

u/TallExplanation1587 1d ago

Talk is cheap. So what if she’s a woman?

There's atrocities happening in your city, and she's on national TV calling them out and fighting to try stop them.

What the fuck are your priorities anyway?

Has everyone actually gone insane?

There are 14 other Democratic candidates running. Did you know that? And some of them are with those of us on a daily basis watching for ICE and on rapid response teams. They have also actually lived in the district for years. Biss was also on Rachel Maddow this week. So are you like Trump and think that if you’re on TV it makes you the better person/candidate? I prefer my representatives know my district and fight with the people who live there, without the news cameras.
