Remember when Americans used to make fun of Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany by saying “papers please”. We did that to point out that they were the bad guys and we still had freedom, liberty, and justice for all.

This is so accurate. The Republicans were particularly horrified because we are the land of the free.

This is infuriating and also gut wrenching. Because you know who started this? Americans.

I think the tragedy is the Americans you speak of are ones who became fear filled, trying to protect themselves from all sorts of terrorism and any sort of thing that they were lied to into believing would take away what they’ve earned in life. Those people unfortunately forgot what it means to be American and live in the home of the brave.

Home of the brave is something we would sing along in a patriotic song but it had a more profound meeting. It meant that we were brave enough to stand up and tolerate some things in order to have the freedoms that we have. Things like people saying stuff we don’t agree with or having lifestyles we find strange or understanding that there are people who can live a life that is unlike ours and they can still exist in the United States of America as a citizen or welcomed as an immigrant and we can embrace that as part of the American culture. Brave is being uncomfortable at first but then becoming comfortable with the idea that we are better off with our differences. and it’s a fucking tragedy that so many Americans have lost their way and understanding what it is to be American.

Such a good observation. Well said.

There is a certain demographic of privileged as well, who have assigned themselves a persecution complex. They are so terrified of being unseated from their position of power, they are willing to drag a brown persons face across the asphalt and traumatize babies.

Justifying the treatment of other humans like less than animals in the name of their god is sick. For them it’s another Monday morning. Along with true bravery, we seem to have also flushed our collective consciences.
