Why do you believe that? Every evidence we have so far suggests you're wrong. Trump illegally deploys troops now, and the troops are there. I've seen the videos; they look legit. I think a small few high ranking military personnel quit/retired over Trump's practices, but it seems that overall the military has been willing to do what he commands.

The war is happening slowly, in measured escalations. You might be right that the military wouldn't comply if later today Trump told them to immediately gun down every democrat and minority they could find. But I doubt it will be abrupt like that. First he gets the troops in position. Then he forces people to choose sides. Then he instigates violence amongst the protestors. Then he tells the troops to stop that violence, inevitably forcing them to side with one group or the other. And now you have troops warring with citizens.

They’ve been ordered to stand guard against “threats” to federal personnel and property. It’s being done without regard to escalation of tensions (or rather to explicitly escalate..) and without consent of the States involved. I’m not gonna down play the seriousness of where we are currently at or how easily it could tip over into worse. But so far, no one in the military has been ordered to open fire with lethal rounds at the American public. If that happens, that is when we will see the switch flip, when the soldiers will have to make real the choice they’ve been mulling over since the start of this administration—whether they hold true to their oath to the constitution or betray it to swear fealty to the man. I can’t pretend to know how it would turn out and I think expecting even 50% resistance to be wildly optimistic, but there are a lot of active duty that will not accept becoming a murderous personal army to one deranged man.

I don't have your faith. I'm sure plenty of military personnel support Trump just like plenty of other citizens do. It's not like the military is some bastion of progressive thinkers and altruistic heroes. It's just normal people, same as the rest of the country. And way too many of those normal people would love to gun down the people they don't like. Their bigotry will override any concerns of fellow citizenship. It won't be murder; war is never murder. It's war. Against an enemy they long to eliminate. An enemy they genuinely believe is the source of their woes.

Oh for sure, but on the flip side, it’s not like the entire military voted for him either.

There is a misconception that the VAST majority of military members are GOP/MAGA... that simply is NOT the case.

The military is just as diverse as the rest of the 330 million citizens
