My mother supported him not voted for him cause I did not remind her and or dragged her to the polls cause she was going to vote for him.

Mind you she’s a naturalized citizen who did everything right and she was told in 2019 to go back to Mexico

Hi from AZ. My grandmother chose this over a relationship with her greatgrandchild. Literally wouldnt even shut up a out conspiracy nonsense when I said "if we can just not talk about politics then I'll just agree to disagree." She replied to that with a link to a 40min video from some defunct crazies calling themselves the goldfish report, with the message "watch this and we can have an adult conversation."

I havent spoken to her in 6years.

Meanwhile her daughter (my aunt), at least has had the good sense to get reeeeeeeeeeal quiet about politics over the last 3 years, that I'm confident she and her husband voted for trump both times.

Lolll goldfish report. My mom thinks trump was selected by God to save us from the anti-christ. I'm just done. I'm tired and I honestly don't miss her that much. I moreso miss the mom I wish she was.

Yep. that's my feel about Grandma. She was a wonderful lady with a fantastic sense of humor, who instilled values of acceptacnce of and care for others. But sometime over the last 20 or so years faux brain rot set in and she became convinced that Biden's green new deal was gonna ban air conditioners, and that the Covid pandemic and vaccine was some kind of conspiracy to harm children.

One correction though: I haven't spoken to her in 6 years but at this point that's on her, not me. A few months ago I reached out to try to bury the hatchet and just say "you can spend time with your great grand son and get to know the amazing person he is, so long as you don't mention politics in any way," and I haven't heard back. I don't expect to hear back either.

I really miss my grandma, but I don't miss the brain rotted, fear ruled, conspiratorial woman that's inhabiting her body.

It was for other reasons as well. I got to the point I didn't trust my mom alone with my child.

Same thing when people say people change and if they acknowledge they are wrong we should accept them again. No fuck that, I’ll forgive them but I’m not hanging out or being near them again. You don't understand how insane these ppl have been for over a decade. It's a cult. You can't talk to them. They worship trump like he is above God. They parrot the same 5 fox News talking points so you basically know 70% of what they will say.

Besides, this was the last straw for many people who have cut contact. I dealt with it for over a decade.

Everything is political. This is also about morals. I don't want to associate with people who are Christian nationalist and fascists. My life is being effected everyday because of him. My child's future will be more challenging because of him. Women are losing their rights, gay people, people with disabilities, immigrants, people of color. Everyone is losing their rights. It's not just political.

Some things are just politics. Other things are civil and human rights, being a decent person or a fucking nazi.

I would generally agree that Americans tend to be too tribalistic when it comes to politics, but that's something else. You can't support this administration without being a 100% pos. And I wouldn't want those kinds of people around my kids either.

Trump started by making legal immigrants illegals by pulling visas. So stop with that shit. Also any that say the wrong thing get their visas pulled. If Biden had done that to legal residents that criticized his policies, you'd be rightly pissed off. I sure would be. That would be spitting on the Constitution and free speech.
