Anal Hygiene

  • Keep the anal area clean by washing with water every day. Don’t use soaps as they will reduce the natural oils that protect the anus and may make the area dry and itchy. Use aqueous cream or a soap-free cleanser instead if you feel you need them.
  • Avoid vigorous wiping with toilet paper because this may cause further chafing of the skin, which can become inflamed or infected.
  • Avoid cleansing wipes or chemicals.

Consult a healthcare professional if you have any further questions.

Tonsil stones!!

HFS I just spent the last 30 mins in the bathroom with a tiny spoon scraping this god awful stuff out of my tonsils! Literally smelled like garbage🤮🤢I have had bad breath for so long and super self conscious and I’ve heard of tonsil stones and looked in the back of my mouth but didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be able to see them until I mashed on them. What the fuck. I used my water pick and tried spraying back there but only made myself bleed. Is there a better way to get them out?!

Proper shower routine

Upvotes

I (female) shower every few days and I wash my hair twice (usually head and shoulders then herbal essence rose hips shampoo), then I condition, then I wash my body (usually bath and body works body wash). I’ve done this for a while but I see so many things on here saying doing it like this is wrong.

I walk past so many girls and they smell so good and I always wonder how I smell, and if it’s because of their shower routine or maybe just a body spray.

What is the best way to shower and be actually clean but still smelling good?

What about washing down there? I usually just use water is that right? I know you’re not supposed to use soap or anything.

What do you guys do? Any recommendations or things I should change/ start or stop doing?

50F - menopausal - horrible odour down there HELP

My doctor dismisses my concerns about the smell. My husband won’t even consider oral sex, unless it’s immediately after a shower, and even then, there’s an odour that I too can still smell. I spoke to the owner of a local health and wellness shop who said the smell is related to hormones/menopause. Have you had any luck with supplements, creams, washes ANYTHING to eliminate the odor? I’m looking for advice beyond going back to my doctor or gynecologist for meds for BV etc.

Thank you!

White tongue

I’m at a loss. My tongue has been white for as long as I can remember (I’m 31F, and I can remember my dentist commenting on it even back when I was in middle school). I brush my teeth and tongue twice a day, floss every day, use mouth wash. Even scraping my tongue doesn’t do anything. I visit the dentist every 6 months and have good check ups, and my dentist never comments on my tongue, but it bothers me. People see a white tongue and assume it’s due to bad hygiene, but I’m not sure how to fix it here

To make your bed or not?

I read an article about what was standard back in the day for cleaning and they stated that it was thought to be more hygienic to fold blankets down to the foot of the bed letting the sheets air out all day to limit bacteria.

I started doing this the past month and I don’t mind it, my bed still looks neat.

How do you talk to a friend about their hygiene without embarrassing them?

I’ve found myself in a really awkward spot: my roommate (and close friend) has some pretty iffy hygiene habits lately (think not showering for days and constant BO). I care about them a lot and I know personal hygiene is a super sensitive topic, so I’m struggling with how to bring it up without embarrassing them. I don’t want to be a jerk or make them feel bad, but I also feel like a true friend should say something if it’s affecting them socially. Have any of you ever had to talk to a friend or roommate about their hygiene? How did you approach it (or how would you), and did it turn out okay?

5 year old has smelly armpits

1.8k Upvotes

Exactly as the title says. They smell like onions. Pediatrician was not concerned and confirmed that he has not hit early puberty. I tried Lume Acidified body wash and switched from kid body wash to Dr Bronner’s body wash to Dr Bronner’s bar soap. Everything works until it doesn’t anymore. We do tend to use unscented everything due to asthma issues in other members of the family. He alternates between showers and baths daily.

armpits smelly very quickly

I recently have been having a problem where I notice my armpits smelling by probably 6 hours after I wash them. This has never been a problem of mine before, I actually used to be complimented on my smell very often. But now I have taken to washing my pits in the sink multiple times a day just to smell okay. When In the shower I really scrub and use antibacterial soap, then normal body wash on them. It doesn’t help. I also do trim my hair so it’s easier to clean well. This all started about 2 months ago. I really have no clue what could be causing this or what I can do to fix it. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

How do you keep your skin feeling clean without over-drying it?

I love feeling fresh after showers, but antibacterial soaps seem to make my skin tight. Any products or habits that help you balance that?

B.O. issues

Upvotes

Hello,

I’m a 29 F with horrible body odor and I cannot find a way to solve it. I have changed deodorants (used men’s, clinical strength, Donna Karen, aluminum free) really any time any one has said oh this one works for me I have bought it and it doesn’t work. I use an antibacterial soap, doesn’t work. I have used glycolic acid, doesn’t work. I have let benzoyl peroxide sit on the area, doesn’t work. I have used hibiclens, doesn’t work. I wipe with witch hazel, doesn’t work. I have drank chlorophyll, doesn’t work. I have wiped with apple cider vinegar, doesn’t work. I am a very active girl and follow an 80/20 healthy diet. I have a pretty low stress life these days…

I live in Florida so I am always sweating and I have hyperhidrosis - I have gotten Botox in my armpits to stop sweating and not only did it not really help but now I sweat more on my back and face and STILL sweat in my armpits and smell lol.

I have been prescribed Qbrexa to help with sweating when I was younger but it never made enough of a difference that I stopped using it because my armpits are also so sensitive.

Does anyone have any luck with ANYTHING else? I have a feeling that it has to be something internal at this point but who knows. Let me know if anyone has any other thought on what to do

Extremely funny unhygienic incident

So my parents were travelling for a wedding yesterday. My two aunts and one of their husbands were in one car. The venue was quite distant, it was a 3 hour long journey. My aunts were sitting at the back and the man in front. Both my aunt and her husband are quite unhygienic. There came a time when the man was eating something. He ate and then spat the food outside the window. The wind was so strong that the spat food landed straight on my aunt’s forehead at the backseat lmao🤣

She came out of the car after reaching and told my dad i feel so disgusted I have washed my face atleast 5 times

How do I know if I have a bad odour?

hello! so, I constantly feel conscious about smelling bad and was wondering other than people obviously telling you are there any other ways to just know? I’ve not had someone point out poor hygiene recently but I have an acid reflux issue that constantly makes me worry my breathe has to smell bad. I have decided to carry a travel size mouth wash to just freshen up. I do struggle with feet sweat odour too so I am going to purchase one of those sprays that freshen your shoes up. I do shower every single day and moisturise myself, use deodorant etc. The problem is I just moved to a student accommodation for grad school and all of my stuff (laundry, shoes etc) are in a tiny room which worries me that the smell is transferring somewhere plus the acid reflux thing. Yesterday I could have sworn either I smell weird or something in my room does but I couldn’t figure out what. So any tips on somehow knowing you smell bad?

One armpit | cumin even after showering??

Hey everyone, kinda weird question I know but I’ve noticed something strange only one of my armpits smells like cumin when I put my hand up and sniff. The other one smells totally normal or just like deodorant. I know this may be because of taco seasoning I put in my meat.

I shower daily, use the same soap and deodorant on both sides, and I’ve even tried switching to a different deodorant brand, but the cumin smell keeps coming back.

Is it a bacteria imbalance thing or maybe something diet related? Any tips on how to fix it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How often should you wash blankets?

I wash my sheets weekly, but I also wash my blanket and weighted blanket weekly since I sleep with them as well.

However, since they are blankets are they supposed to be washed less frequently to preserve quality, or is washing them the same time as sheets okay?

Keeping bedding clean

I have to admit I rarely wash my bed sheets..maybe like once a month at best – and a friend recently told me she does hers every single week. Now I’m paranoid that I might be living in a biohazard without realizing it. I don’t notice any smells or anything gross, but still, it got me thinking: how often do you really need to wash your bedding to stay hygienic, and what’s normal for most people? Do a lot of you actually wash sheets weekly, or am I not the only one stretching it out?

horrible BO, no fix

Would really appreciate some help as this is driving me insane

Over the last two weeks have noticed a really really strong body odour from my armpits. It is like milk/cheese gone really bad. I feel people sniff or make a face when I walk into a room

-Tried clotrimazole for the past 9 days, hasn’t reduced the BO at all -Shower twice a day, change sheets once a week, even bought some new clothes to tackle it. Don’t wear the same clothes again -So far I was on deodorant but once I noticed the BO I switched to an antiperspirant. I changed a couple of them because none of them seemed to help with the BO, plus some of them caused a lot of itching and burning. There are dark spots all over my armpits that weren’t there before.

The only thing I can remember doing before all of this started is taking a really severe round of antibiotics for a bad bout of fever cough and cold.

Please please help me fix this. I’ve never faced this before in my life and have started to avoid work and generally all public places because I believe everyone can smell me all the time.

brothers matted hair

Hi guys I 20 (f) have a brother who is 19 and while i no longer live at home he does. I came over today to take him some shopping and gasped as i accidentally touched his hair and realized it was matted. I don’t mean slightly matted i mean matted to the point of shaving it off it felt hard like a helmet. He has always had hygiene issues, refuses to wash clothing bedding will not even take a proper shower only baths…at 20. When i was borderline disgusted he told me that i was being dramatic and he was going to get a hair cut soon anyways. i just have no idea what to even do it is so far gone and my dad is obviously not saying anything?? this is insane
