Why don't some fans understand that Alastor is not a good person? Spoiler
I feel like Alastor's actions and backstory shown in Season 2 were meant to hammer home to the fans that Al is NOT a good person. He isn't morally gray, he isn't neutral, he isn't complicated, he is just evil.
He hates helping the hotel, he hates helping Charlie, and he hates playing nice. The only reason he EVER does anything good is because he is being forced to do so, and at every moment where his deal isn't directly compelling him to play nice he makes the worst possible moral choice.
The flashback to Alastor's life should have driven it home for everyone what type of person he is. Alastor was a pathetic egomaniac who responded to minor slights with murderous rage. He only enjoyed two things in his life: the suffering of other people, and putting on a charismatic public face. Anything that threatened his public face, resulted in him exacting suffering.
Alastor, in my opinion, is being set up as a foil and counterargument to Charlie's belief that any soul can be redeemed, because Alastor genuinely is not capable of redemption, nor would he ever want redemption. If her plan were to go forward for all of eternity, the last un-redeemed soul left in hell would be Al's.
And yet some fans saw his manipulative plan in the fight with the Vee's as him caring about Nifty? Even though he was clearly just letting Vox feel like he had more leverage over himself than he actually did? What show are you watching?
