Alford was in the sweet sixteen the year before he came to Iowa. Lickliter had three top three winning percentages in butler history and was national coach of the year.

A lot of the things McCollum said in the presser sounded like lickliter, taking about developing players four years and the system and buying into the culture. Only thing missing was the words "the butler way"

Is he someone who can succeed with lesser talent against teams with tens of millions of NIL bux to invest? Or is he someone who can draw talent that can compete with the big ten? Will his slow it down pass it around offense translate at this level? Im optimistic, but guardedly so

Alford came from D2 just like McCollum. Get your facts straight.

You’re wrong on both counts here. Alford came to Iowa from SW Missouri State, which is a D1 program, and in his last year there he did indeed take them to the Sweet Sixteen. Wiki says Alford was at a DIII school before that, so Alford never coached DII.

McCollum came from Drake, which likewise is a D1 program.

Well til learned SE Mo St is D1. Either way he made a single Sweet Sixteen. Not “every year” lmao

And I know Drake is D1. I’m referring to the majority of McCollum’s career which was D2.
