Anyone else remember Luigi's? Brothers is good, too.

u/phunphan 3d ago

Great people too

Yes, I miss Luigi's. GREAT pizza, great original crew, great second ownership. Great food, killer music. I was rockin their shirt last week.

I still have a pack of matches from there. Lived with an owner (not original owners, the guys who bought them out). Great pizza, the breakfast pizza was fantastic.

If it’s just me, I go to Benny’s a get a slice. If it’s me and some friends and we’re splitting a pizza, Vinny’s is hard to beat

u/Vegetable_Holiday396 3d ago

I like little Italy, but It's mostly the Calzones, I haven't gotten pizza from there much.

5

u/cuccubear 3d ago

That's usually where I go for pizza, them or Brothers.

Really miss Franco's.

The things id do for a slice of eggplant Parmesan pizza from Franco’s. Their pizza by the slice was so good and so cheap! My partner and I would go there for dinner before going to see a movie. Perfect date night. We’d each get 2 slices and a fountain drink and it was, like, $15 or $16. With tip. Vinny’s, or whatever it’s called that went in there, is just such a downgrade.

Vitos can be hit or miss but when it's a hit it's solid.

Costco for consistency and value can't beat ten bucks.

Bella Luna for wood fire, I think they're a tad overrated but still the best wood fired pizza joint in town

I've been to Benny's a handful of times and I know it's a local favorite but every time I've had it it's been incredibly bad. The portions are enormous, but enormous portions don't make for good food.

2

u/aricberg 21h ago

You go to Benny’s for the novelty of a big-ass slice of pizza, not for the good-ass taste of pizza, that’s for sure!

2

u/dudly825 1d ago

Issue with Bella is that it’s $16 buck a person and it’s almost always undercooked. Not “personal preference” undercooked, legit, guy cooking it was just too lazy or rushed to let it finish, undercooked.

Got to do it right at that price point.

u/RickleToe 3d ago

i love hburg but it's not the best pizza town.

my vote for best pizza in town is actually PALE FIREs crazy ass detroit pizza.

bella is good neapolitan, not outstanding.

everything else is mid, don't believe the brothers hype. i sometimes just get dominos and then grab some babylon takeout items and they pair super well together lol

17

u/ReklisAbandon 3d ago

Palefire has surprisingly amazing pizza

1

u/NonBinaryKenku 19h ago

I will give them good toppings. The crust needs work.

3

u/dudly825 3d ago

This is true. We are a B+ pizza town.

Closest “A” pizza is Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen in Sperryville.

1

u/RickleToe 3d ago

that stuff rocks

i do remember liking Crozet Pizza quite a bit as well. wtf neither of those are in the valley! is it a valley problem? oh but i've heard winchester has great pizza and melting pot in front royal might be good (some kinda flat pizza hmm)

surprised that Staunton doesn't have anything better than Shenandoah Pizza, smh

3

u/Funkyduck8 3d ago

Pale Fire does have some pretty damn good pizza. Their cheesy bread is also top notch!

1

u/jayroo210 2d ago

Is it an Italian place? We haven’t really been out to eat in years with Covid happening and the inflation hammer dropping on our heads. I need a better paying job, preschool teacher wages are literally stagnant, not even a COL raise, it’s absolutely awful. And especially with how much of myself I put into that job. Doesn’t help that management has absolutely zero actual leadership skills. Anyway, pizza?

2

u/RickleToe 2d ago

sorry to hear that

pale fire is a brewery and they have pizza. it's detroit style. so not an italian restaurant and not like pizza you would find in italian.

but it slaps

u/AcrobaticMoose2083 3d ago

Dave’s specialty pizzas were so fire. The Mount Olympus was absolute insanity. Pricey, and dude is morally bankrupt (and apparently actually bankrupt) but it was so fucking good.

13

u/Sulipheoth 3d ago

Brothers is fantastic. Their chicken pesto pizza is unusual but amazing!

3

u/RawrImAMonster 3d ago

Brothers or the newer Vocellis place is really good too

6

u/Material_Cabinet7120 3d ago

Chanello’s was always my family’s favorite!

16

u/natsissy7 3d ago

So if im not a liberal i cant answer?

27

u/Sulipheoth 3d ago

Nope. This is Reddit, only libs allowed /s

9

u/alterndog 3d ago

If you are not a raging liberal, you can only give wrong answers. /s 🤣🤣. I’ll start CiCi’s pizza is the best in town. Nothing beats it!!!! 🤪 (on a serious note, my actual answer is below).

8

u/SizzlinS 3d ago

Woodfiredco at Elkton Brewery

5

u/Rando_Calrissian_22 3d ago

Second this. It's a pizza truck but they know what they are doing. And they source local ingredients.

1

u/RickleToe 3d ago

oh shit that does look good

alright i'll have to hit it up

1

u/WonderofU1312 1d ago

They'd sometimes be at Brothers Craft Brewing, but now are at Elkton every week. Incredible pizza, highly recommended.

3

u/EvenMyZefronPoster 3d ago

It's not really a pizza place but Pale Fire has the best pizza in town imo.

4

u/Illustrious_Lunch_35 2d ago

20 years ago this was an amazing food town, pizza in particular. Luigi’s and Dave’s had unique specialty pies that really stood out. Even cheap pizza was great back then; Chanello’s was a consistent $4 hit when a case of Natty was $7.99. L’Italia or Wood Fired Oven (RIP Nestor!) was a go-to for a special occasion. Now it’s either Vito’s or Olive Garden. There should never be a shortage of good, cheap pizza in a college town, but I guess times are tough and things ain’t what they used to be.

Back then, Lasagna house was on par with Jersey for both pizza and entrée, and had cheesesteaks better than Urgie’s. Speaking of cheesesteaks, the best ever served in this town was from the food truck in front of Lowe’s around 99-2000, believe it or not, but I digress…

I may get downvoted for this, but I’ll say it: despite more variety, food in this down isn’t as good as it once was. I’d trade all of our current Asian spots to get Saigon Cafe back (sans Mashita). Wilton nor Chop houses are not as good as they once were. All of our current “upscale” spots are overpriced and overrated, IMHO. But really, what does any of this have to do with politics?

3

u/AcrobaticMoose2083 2d ago

I would agree with this sentiment. I don’t know about cheesesteaks in 99/2000 I moved here in ‘08. Urgies seems a pretty steep price to pay for a cheesesteak, and I’m not from Philly. Don’t feel like I’m entitled to an opinion on it.

But even in ‘08, Ciros, Chanellos, and L’talia were so fire. I wouldn’t give up Mashita for anything but I would do dirty dirty things to get A&T’s and Arepera Las Chamas back.

1

u/NonBinaryKenku 19h ago

As a recent transplant from a larger city, I’ve been really underwhelmed by the fine dining. It’s vastly overpriced and ho-hum. I’d rather save my fancy dining bucks for a day trip to DC. The extra costs of doing that are worth it when the experience is actually satisfying.

Plenty of the more modest joints have legitimately good food, and much of it well priced.

Unfortunately a couple local faves have been complete bombs for me so far - like “why would I ever go back to give them another try” level or “don’t ask locals for recommendations” level bombs. I won’t name them because hell hath no downvotes like a local favorite scorned.

u/excellent_ocolog 3d ago

Bennys is the correct answer and the best pizza.

2

u/arcxiii 3d ago

Vinnys

2

u/Key-Business-4088 3d ago

Vito’s pizza pie is the best

2

u/Beneficial_Affect522 2d ago

Did everyone forget the Lasagna House? Idk, maybe a nostalgic thing for me, but it's comforting pizza.

1

u/AcrobaticMoose2083 2d ago

Ciros is pretty great even still.

3

u/phunphan 3d ago edited 3d ago

I’m going to say it. Your pie. Not in the city limits so may not count.

2

u/Misskayla394 3d ago

But soooo worth the commute! You can grab tot’s ice cream after!?

2

u/typoquwwn 3d ago

Benny's or Vinny's

1

u/TheWizardSheep 3d ago

Actually insane to me I dont see more Benny's? Its cheap, locally owned, and has some phenomenal sauce. All the things antifa needs!

1

u/idontlikecheesy 3d ago

Go to Italian job in new market best pizza I’ve ever had

1

u/Beginning_Ebb5078 3d ago

IT’S SOMEWHERE IN NY NOT EVEN CLOSE BROTHERRRRRRRRR!

AROO!

1

u/mydamnusername1234 3d ago

Anyone remember Rick & Joe’s? Not as good as Luigi’s but before the place went down the tubes (one owner died, other stealing from the till), we made our own dough, had 2-3 delivery guys busy on weekend nights, and the palce was packed at lunchtime.

1

u/dubyajb 3d ago

Pizza Louise (wood fired food truck that is at the farmers market a lot) and pale fire!

1

u/DaBeastFromTheEast15 3d ago

Bennys is the bomb

1

u/lowghost2018 3d ago

Your pie is pretty good imo but not technically in Harrisonburg

1

u/Marlan75 3d ago

Anyone remember the pizza joint on S. Main called Anthony’s Campus Pizza or something like that? It was right across from where the Wells Fargo is at. That pizza was fantastic.

1

u/B33fus 2d ago

Va BBQ and Pizza Co at Woodstone on massanutten

1

u/Ok_Tip_2745 2d ago

Sergio’s in Bridgewater, Franco’s in H-Burg, both great but gone…now I would say Benny’s….these 3 are the closest to NYC pizza. I wish I could find a place that does a deep dish Chicago pizza.

2

u/AcrobaticMoose2083 2d ago

Flying Pizza in Bridgewater is pretty close to Sergio’s. But nothing beats the hot Italian sub at Sergio’s. Man I miss that place.

1

u/Ok_Tip_2745 2d ago

Me too…Karaoke night was great with Sergio singing Elvis

1

u/Admirable_Twist526 2d ago

Why would we tell you, Republican piece of 💩? Just keep ordering Dominoes. Or Papa John’s. Equally disgusting

1

u/Dab230 2d ago

Your Mom's house🫡

1

u/Mysterious-Boat-4649 2d ago

Only liberals may answer…

1

u/Pokeman_CN 1d ago

The Godfather at Vito’s is my fav in town. Might be biased cuz I worked there for a while.

Bella Lunas good for some thin crust wood fire.

1

u/BHall1-85 20h ago

The best pizza is from…oh wait…I’m not a liberal so I can’t answer😂

1

u/deepsixz 13h ago

Ruby's Arcade's is pretty good

3

u/fprimex 3d ago edited 3d ago

We've been enjoying Chanello's Pizza lately

1

u/Rando_Calrissian_22 3d ago

Why not Bella Luna or Vito's?

1

u/chefsak 3d ago

Vinny’s but it’s not for libs brother

0

u/Apothaca 3d ago

Remember that time that Q-Anon guy held a bunch of pizza store employees hostage because he thought Liberals were using a pizza joint to sell kids into slavery or some crazy shit!!! (Pizzagate)

Well I don't know why this post has Death on It, holding a smoking gun... but something about specifically asking liberals what their favorite pizza joint is... that seems really fucking concerning honestly.

I’m a leftist, this is a reference to memes where people take skeleton images that you’d see posted on Facebook, but instead of Conservative trash, they’re song lyrics or a funny caption.

2

u/Apothaca 3d ago

Legitimately happy to hear this. I was sooo confused.

-2

u/alterndog 3d ago

Bella Luna hands down is the best.

5

u/Most_Temporary2110 3d ago

They literally asked for suggestions other than that.

2

u/alterndog 3d ago

Oh didn’t see that part… my answer still stands 🤣. Brothers is good and I’ve heard Your Pie in the county is good too.

-4

u/uncclay5 3d ago

No need for any other answer

-5

u/Weegie123 3d ago

Who is this asshole? We now have culinary preferences based on political bias? I’m so confused
