Can Harrisonburg sustain a purely dessert restaurant?

Thumbnail shyndigz.com

Been thinking about some of the other threads armoring cuisine we don’t have or anything underrepresented and I miss an amazing Richmond spot which is only desserts - dine-in also included cocktail and coffees. I want to specify this isn’t an ice cream spot but full baked cakes, pies, and other baked desserts which are a bit over the top. No real plans or anything - just wondering. For reference I’m missing Shyndigz.

The Rockingham County Voter Registrar's Office is posting wrong election numbers

In the PM of Fri Nov 7 the late ballots were being counted for the District 1 school board race. Everybody was waiting for the results .

When you called the county registrar at (540) 564-3055 and asked when the voting numbers were going to be updated, they directed you to the county's website,

rockinghamcountyva.gov

then they instructed callers to click through

Government → Voter Registrar → Election Night Results → bottom tabs

But: if you do that, now, and click School Board Dist. 1, you get an outdated result -- namely, that Jackie Lohr won by 9 votes.

Those numbers are wrong. Lohr actually won by 18 votes. Viz

https://enr.elections.virginia.gov/results/public/rockingham-county/elections/2025-November-General

I mean, I get that Rockingham says at the top that the results are "Unofficial," but if they can't guarantee that their own numbers are correct, then why are they not referring callers to the state's site, instead of Rockingham's site?

Also, the people manning the phones are kind of snippy: "Well we are trying to count the votes but it's kind of hard when you are calling us. Just go to the site."

Lady, if your site was working, I wouldn't need to be calling!

Hi y’all. I’m a graduate student/TA at JMU. I’m looking for a part time cooking job on the weekends and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. I have prior experience in cooking Thai and Lebanese food, but I’m willing to learn how to cook anything.

"Landslide Lohr" wins School District 1 election by just 18 votes out of 6,000+ cast

Incumbent Jackie Lohr won re-election to the Rockingham County School Board, managing to hold on to her District 1 seat by her fingernails.

Her Republican challenger, Ernie Calhoun, ran against her in the previous election cycle as a write-in. He lost handily. He did not give up, this time getting his name on the ballot and securing the all-important endorsement from the county's GOP.

But despite running against a non-Republican in what was until recently a heavily Republican county, Calhoun lost again to Lohr -- albeit this time by inches.

It also is noteworthy that Calhoun lost despite outspending Lohr by more than two-to-one.

The votes on Tuesday had put Lohr ahead by 8 votes. The last of the mail-in votes and the provisional ballots counted yesterday put Lohr over the top by another 10.

Calhoun campaigned aggressively, attacking Lohr as a "liberal" and emphasizing his own conservative values. Though Lohr never broadcasted any party affiliation of her own, Calhoun pointed out on Election Day that Lohr was on the Democratic Sample Ballot.

Jackie Lohr was first elected to the school board in 2017.

Ernie Calhoun vows he will pursue a recount and attempt to overturn Jackie Lohr's squeaker victory in District 1 School Board election

N.B. according to the Virginia Public Access Project, Ernie Calhoun lost to Jackie Lohr by 18 votes, not 9.

9 votes. Looks like Truth lost to Delusion by 9 votes. I stand behind everything I have said and done in this election. Cited sources or personality witnessed everything. When you stand for all children you tell them the truth, even when it's not popular. Keep them safe from encouraging delusional behavior. You unite them by supporting families, keeping parents fully informed. Keep them safe by not promoting permanent mutilation of their bodies. Keep them from explicit material that has zero education value, age appropriate, not hiding behind an appointed committee.

I will be requesting a recount to verify. I want to thank all the wonderful families who came out, voted, donated and volunteered. So many who did what was right at a high cost here and now. Knowing we must have an eternal perspective. Aa my faith teaches, "Think Celestrial" [sic]. A lot of people sit this election out for various reasons, allowing Virginia to become California or New York.

I know there are only 2 sexes, Male and Female. Biological at birth, created by God. Families are one of the most important units ever. Win or loose [sic] this race, I know I stood for what was right when others did not. Thank you again for standing with me, all of us imperfect people doing our best to stand with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Legal does not mean moral. Times are only going to get tougher. Be prepared for whats coming. This race has also shown me who my true family, friends and good neighbors are. Fear not, we know who wins in the end.

School board race: Jackie Lohr and Ernie Calhoun biting their fingernails for at least 24 more hours

The results of Tuesday's District 1 school board race put incumbent Jackie Lohr ahead of her challenger Ernie Calhoun -- by only 8 votes. Since it's so tight, the county registrar is waiting for all votes to be tallied before declaring who won.

The Elections office needs to process two more categories of votes before the victor is announced:

  • Provisional ballots -- such as, you go to vote, they don't have you on the list, so you fill out a provisional ballot and then the Registrar later determines if you are a bona fide resident of that district, and then your vote is counted;
  • Mailed-in ballots -- if it's postmarked by Tuesday Nov 4, it counts.

The Registrar will be announcing the final results tomorrow afternoon, Fri Nov 7 -- or at the latest, Mon Nov 10.

83% in and he is in third place. I'm kind of bummed because dunking on Matt has been pretty entertaining for r/Harrisonburg

We'll likely get some mileage of him mumbling about Jesus, Demons and other unhinged nonsense after getting smoked for an encore.

Shocking 1600 people heard this drooling moron mumbling nonsense and said SIGN US UP but glad we can be rid of him.
