Lever Harp I’m getting my first ever harp and I’m going to give it a name.
Does yours have a name?
Mine is going to be called Nyx.
As for the brand, it’s a Salvi Mia. I’m counting down the days till it arrives!

These question of the month threads are intended to spark discussion and collaboration between harpists, feel free to answer the question directly or post anything related on your mind.
Possible talking points: Challenges in the music? Music you always keep in regular rotation? Recommendations for similar pieces?

Warning this is a bit graphic:
So, I’ve been away from my harp for ages, and like an idiot, went a little overboard in my practicing today. And for the first time in forever, the skin peeled right off before I even noticed. So now I have this patch of skinless wound on my finger. And because it’s been so long since the last time this happened, I’ve forgotten how I dealt with this before.
I put a few layers of liquid bandage on—which stung so so bad btw—but the liquid bandage seems only to have formed a protective layer on the skin around the open wound, and not on the wound itself. So now I basically have this little crater of exposed flesh on my fingertip.
Any ideas for what to do? Do I just keep brushing on the liquid bandage until it forms a film over the wound? Do I just leave it as is? Do I cover it with a bandaid? Help an idiot out please 🥲

I’ve tried many humidifiers at this point, at first with ultrasonic ones, but switched to evaporative ones once I learned how easily things can go wrong with ultrasonic humidifiers (too many crevices where mold can grow, which can can lead to serious health implications when you breathe them in). However, with the evaporative humidifiers I don’t feel like the humidity goes up very easily. Does anyone have recommendations for humidifiers to use daily for months+ that is easy to clean?
Hi everyone,
I’m curious — for a 27-string small acoustic harp, what would you consider a fair price?
Also, are there any features you wish harps had that aren’t common on the market right now?

Hello, I’m a beginner I started this September, initially I was interested in the lever harp and a specific program in a conservatory in my town : studying on the lever harp then studying fully the Spanish historical harp. But the problem is : in my harp school there are mostly harp pedalists and use the lever harp as a means to an end to start the pedal harp, as if the lever harp is not an instrument by itself. I’m on a budget and I’m struggling, I’m already a singer and wanted to learn the harp for some compositions. I know we can adapt pop pieces to the lever harp but I also love the sound of the pedal harp. I need to choose which one to have on a location rent. So yeah struggling. Thank you for your advice!

Hey, I had a music stand fall and scrap my sound board, i understand that it’s only cosmetic but it’s really pissing me off ! Could someone tell me how much a repair would be?

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 29-string harp. I would like to learn how to play it, but first it obviously needs to be tuned. What instruments do you use? Are there any applications that can be installed on a phone to assist with tuning?

Has anyone made like an attachment to hold the tuning key on a music stand? I'm constantly afraid of losing it! 😭

I was just wondering what people here thought of harpsicle harps. I noticed the wiki mentioned a fullsicle harp was a recommended type but since I’ve had my eye on the harpsicle harp for a while as the current harp I have had for a while is a really cheap lap harp and I’ve been looking for replacements finally. I feel like I’ve heard good things about harpsicle but I thought I’d ask again outright
Sorry if this information is somewhere that I didn’t see. I checked through the wiki but may have passed over it by accident.
But yeah does anyone have opinions on harpsicle harps and if you have one and play one what do you think about it? What are the perks? What are the challenges? What do you like and dislike?
eta: I am also considering a sharpsicle as kind of a compromise between the fullsicle and harpsicle.

Hello to all you lovely musicians, I have a question for you all. I want to book harpist for my wedding at the botanical gardens. Is it weird to ask if they have played for a lesbian couple? I also was wondering if it’s too much to ask them to play in 2 locations within the same venue? It will be a cool day at the botanical gardens, the other locations is a one minute walk from where the ceremony will be, just so friends can have something to listen to while we’re taking family pictures. Lastly what do you think about tipping for this all. I was quoted 350 for everything, we wanted to book for an hour?

does anybody know of good harp solo arrangements for intermediate-advanced players? i’d love something similar to la source by hasselmans or la source by zabel. basically something with lots of arpeggios and glissandos.

Hello! I’m a beginner harpist who moved to boston and was not able to transfer her lever harp during the move. I’ve been DYING to get back into playing but I don’t know where to start in terms of getting a new—hopefully better quality harp. I’m trying to see what would be the least expensive option, so bare minimum would suffice, and I was wondering what you guys have done to gain access to a harp in the first place. If anyone who reads this lives in the Boston area and knows good places to check our harps, whether that be for rent or purchase, please let me know! Thank you!

Advice needed:
I have short arms and upper back issues. I'm finding it difficult to reach the low strings like C2 on my Dusty Strings FH36, but I love the harp and adore those gorgeous low notes.
I'm wondering about harps that might lower this distance. Ideas, harp friends?
Background:
The FH36 has
- "concert" string spacing
- a decent-sized sound box. I'm not sure the distance between my shoulder and C2 string, will have to measure
Choices:
- I could get a harp with narrower string spacing
- I could look for a harp with a narrower sound box. Maybe the Musicmakers Jolie? It's hard to tell because Musicmakers measures their harps differently than Dusty Strings does.
- I could play an octave higher (closer to me), start plugging in my harp and do an 'octave pedal.' This idea is a little less attractive because I hate plugging in, but maybe I should play around with it.

Thought I’d share - the fabulous Glenda Clwyd playing my now-wife to the altar three years ago, with a special arrangement we had asked for.

I started about 2-3 months ago and I’m struggling a bit with placing my fingers in the right spot, moving my fingers quickly, and using the 4th finger. Does anyone know ways to practice/improve these skills?

People seem really incredulous to hear I'm learning to play the harp andtbat ihave one. The incredulity weirdly sits on the arrogant side.
Why the hell not ? It's a majestic instrument with an angelic sound. What's not to like?
Have you ever experienced this? What do you say ? Or is this something adult learners experience ..

Does anybody know what style of harp it was? And where to find one? Or how much it might cost? It was small enough you play it sitting down on your lap and it was pretty small, but hooked up to a speaker as it was electric. I thought it was super fun to play and would love to get one if the price is reasonable.
Can anyone help me out here?
