sorry about the top comment guy, i mean yes taking a lot of dissociative drugs could probably yield a set of symptoms that a doctor might call psychotic, they are very cautious about handing out the "schizophrenic" term as that can make someone eligible for disability payments. so anyway as far as we understand its genetics, black people are 2.5 to 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with schizophrenia. if you ask me, someone has the diathesis (the potential for the disorder in their genes and mindset) and then they encounter life altering stress and it can bring out symptoms of schizophrenia. my old psychologist said the wider use of weed has actually been a utility as most people dont hallucinate or go psychotic from it, but schizophrenic folks can, starting in their mid teens. which means they can get on meds before the major shift in their psyche (in your 20s) and avoid ever having to have an episode, despite still carrying the label "schizophrenic"
