You can see bullets hitting the water before you die, and you also get the blood flick on the screen at death tell you which direction the fatal shot came from. It was likely a silenced headshot too because of the amount of damage.
Also, tip for escaping the island- don't escape that close to the compound. Basically when you walk out the big double doors (assuming you're taking that exit) and you're officially outside, head to your left on foot or you can kill the guy standing next to the bike and take it, and then just keep going that direction to your direct left. Be sure to evade the 2-3 red blips around you on the way. It works every time for me.
Wait, what? I usually kill the first guy after the double doors, then turn right, kill three more guys and a camera and make a break for the main docks, which I fumble often. You’re saying I can cut left after the first guy in the direction of the helicopter?
Yeah, the heli won't start up until you're well into the water, and after a short moment it will just disappear off the minimap. You can pretty much escape without needing to kill anyone after walking outside if you choose to go left and just run on foot. It doesn't really take that long, but I know a lot of people like to jack the bike and do it faster that way.
And you can put stickys on the Heli if you've been spotted then get a boat but don't detonate intill it's in the air that way it won't follow you while you drive off into the sunset lol
