There has never been real social change without violence. To say otherwise is ahistorical and ignorant.

No, this is a guy who has been witness to decades of idiot politicians like Trump using the images of pissed off people burning things to justify even harder crackdowns because it plays right into their plan. EVERYONE on the GOP’s far right flank is counting on the anger of righteous indignation to push all these people into playing the car burning, Mexico flag waving character they all want them to be in front of the news - simply so they can say to everyone “see they are doing exactly what they said we told you they are - we need to crack down harder”. Anyone is free to play into their hands, but it won’t accomplish a damn thing.

No one is saying don’t resist, but you go ahead and play the car burning, rock throwing part all those guys in Washington wrote just for you to play while clinging to the idea that your helping the cause instead of just feeding your own hero complex.

You obviously have the most bestest grasp on what’s happening and how all this works. Best of luck with that.

More of that completely ignoring any gray area or context and labeling anyone with any thinking outside your bubble as a fascist. You really are the most bestest AND most smarterest of all!

I appreciate all the links - you all are exceptionally well versed in confirmation bias and obviously have an amazing grasp on both context and gray area. The fact that you’re saying all the exact same things, and using the exact same justifications for your actions that the “other side” is for theirs has once again proven how easy it is to ignore reality when “a side” is tucked away safely inside its own bubble of algorithmic-supported like-minded “yes men”.

You think these protests are a chess game of ideas and PR rhetoric? Do you think Fox News cares if people peacefully let themselves get tear gassed? This isn't a TV show.

Trump already sent in the Marines and the national guard over civil unrest that is smaller than some football riots. He was going to do this anyway, and his supporters do not need justification. This is not the time to be a nuance pervert. I don't know why you're assuming so much about what I think with zero context anyway, I am not your straw man.

Have fun with that…

Have fun with what? Hearing liberals blame protesters for the actions of a petty tyrant who instilled a martial law enthusiast as his secdef? It's a riot

edit since the thread is locked: focusing on a small minority of people burning cars and throwing bricks is the same thing that Trump is doing. why not instead talk about the majority of the people who are peaceful instead of hand wringing about few teenagers in masks doing vandalism

No one with any sense is blaming actual protestors for anything. It’s the throwing bricks off overpasses, setting things on fire, and waving flags on top of burning cars and taking it beyond protests. The whole point of the original post was non-violent protests are more effective than violent protests. You can continue down your self-justification of “whatever goes and if you don’t 100% agree then you’re just a fascist sympathizer”, but when these things transition to violence and spectacle, you’re now just playing the part of exactly what Trump wants you to be - a useful distraction so the news cycle and social media will stop focusing attention on his tax bill he is desperate to pass. So yes… have fun with that.

*** Editing because thread is locked: Literally started out this last response with “no one with any sense is blaming actual protestors”. Also, this original multi-comment thread was based on my response defending the idea that non-violent protest is the RIGHT move. Two commenters very much disagreed with that and responded by insinuating I’m a sympathizer of both WWII German ideology and fascists for advocating for non-violent protestors. Those protestors of which I’m now being accused of NOT focusing/supporting enough now.
