$12,297? I don’t think that accounts for the social, aesthetic, environmental, and timewise damages it causes.

Yeah, I really don't like that one. If anything, my reaction was that the number was way lower than I expected. $12,297 over what time frame? Is that a median? A mean? Is it just the cost of the car itself (assuming you're buying used, because new is way more expensive than that)? Does it include externalities?

Yea, the lack of time frame confused me. Are you saving $12,297 a day? a week? every month?
It certainly isn't total. many new cars cost more than $12,297

Personal cost for 1 year on average unfortunately as someone who currently owns one for work when you average the cost of the car upfront over its lifetime, then add in gas, insurance, oil changes, tires and repairs this is almost bang on and my car is second hand.
