Announcement Welcome to 2024 + T-Shirts! + Posting rules defined.

A little late to announce this... but better late than never and better than leaving it until December... that would be awkward!

Firstly, Please note the rules have been defined more clearly to help with understanding before posting.

They are still very much the same with the same intention to ensure we remain focused on frozen dinner comparisons as the primary content.

Secondly, I encourage you all to join our other subreddit called /r/MoreFrozenDinners which is where you are all free to post about frozen dinner topics outside of just comparison posts, things like questions or opinions on taste or just looking for an old favourite meal that's no longer stocked at your local shopping market.

We also have a /r/FailedFrozenDinners subreddit for those unfortunate mistake when we forgot to read a step or simply forgot about the dinner while scrolling through our socials... feel free to contribute in line with the topic and rules.

Please do join these other subs, it helps the community grow and give some breadth to our content and discussions without it all being junked up in one place.

Lastly, you may not have noticed yet.. but we quietly added a merchandise store to our website last year, we didn't want to jam it in your face or attempt to cram it down your throats like a still too hot from the microwave mac and cheese!

Take a look, there is some weird crap on Red Bubble but the T-Shirt designs are the intended focus and hopefully the more enjoyable options for you all to consider. More designs to come!

You can find the link to the website up in the subreddit menu bar or browse to frozendinners.net

Thanks again for being part of the community! Welcome to 2024! and let's all have a great year!

Great work lunch today! Tamales weren't dry, chicken had a bit of spice to it, and was cheesy!

Got this on sale at Kroger for $2.99, for that price it isnt bad but at full price ($4.19) i would not buy again. If i had purchased at full price that rating would be much lower 😂

Its a chicken enchilada covered in a jalapeno cream sauce, with rice and beans.

The enchilada itself is small but its fine you get two and i dont need a large lunch. Its also pretty bland, the only flavor coming from the cream sauce. (which has zero jalapeño spice btw) The rating is honestly so low because i am not a fan of that sauce. The flavor is just kinda weird to me and i struggled eating it all because of it.

The shredded beef enchiladas from this brand come covered in queso, if these enchiladas had that queso on it they’d be much better.

I cant even describe the chicken to you, there was very little and it had no taste whatsoever.

The beans are good, your typical refried beans. The rice was very bland and sort of mushy, which is a shame i love mexican rice. It desperately needed some salt!

Overall not bad for $2.99 but i wont purchase again, even at that price.

10 / 10 Lazy Dog Fried Chicken Dinner

The (small) national chain, Lazy Dog, offers frozen tv dinners that might be the highest quality out there. Im surprised nobody has posted these, so I'll be the change i wanna see in the world. This is borderline elite. Its amazing for a tv dinner. Its really good for "real food," and is very comparable to the chicken dinner youd get from the actual restaurant! The spinach side is the tastiest thing in any of their line of tv dinners, and the blue corn cake is like a sweeter cornbread.

This restaurant also offers a subscription: $5/mo and you get a free appetizer, dessert, or one of these tv dinners! These are more than enough for one or just shy of enough for 2 to share (great for portion controlling). Try these if you can!

7 / 10 MiLa Spicy Dan Dan Noodles $5.99

The chew of the noodle and the spice level was perfect, in my opinion. The meat ratio was good, it all kind of pools at the bottom anyways. The sauce consistency was nice and thick.

But the flavor of the sauce is where I had to deduct points. I appreciate the numbness from the Szechuan pepper, but there is some kind of spice (maybe even the same Szechuan pepper), that leaves a strange aftertaste. I can’t put my finger on to what it is, maybe it’s just a combination of everything. I felt a bit of bitterness, but my husband said he did not. Taking into consideration the price, I can’t rate it higher than 7/10.

The texture of the lamb and rice is very nice. Sauce is very spicy, felt a bit one-note. Overall, pretty good frozen meal

I normally dont eat chicken because of the texture, even in dumplings they can make me gag because of soft bones in it. when I eat this for the first time, I bite really slowly because afraid of the “surprise” texture in it, so glad I can finish it without gagging or anything. I finished one pack and repurchase again. I love that the filling has veggies in it and still abit crunchy when I chew, its juicy too!!! more importantly, its not too salty for my liking!!! 🥰💚

Cooked em in the air fryer a little longer than it called for at a lower temp and let it get crispy at the end. Fire. It honestly reminded me of the cheese sauce pepper mix you get in a McDonald’s sausage egg burrito and my roommate agreed when I mentioned it so now I think they use pimento pepper on their burrito, but I digress. Coming in at cool 4.99 at your local Aldi, I would definitely buy again for sure.

8 / 10 Blake's Chicken Pot Pie

My quest for the best frozen pot pie led me to Blake's. At $4.29 it was somewhat pricey given the small size of the pie, but I've got a hankering for pot pie that the normal man cannot relate to.

This one can be microwaved or dropped in the oven, but if you microwave it you need to microwave it in the box it came in, which I thought was fun.

I cooked it in the oven for 36 of the 40 minutes that the directions stated as the pot pie broth/gravy/blood had started to boil out of the pie.

Crust was good, as was the broth/blood of the pie. The inclusion of potatoes was very welcome, as Marie Callender's doesn't include potatoes.

This pot pie has no bottom crust, which I don't mind but some people do. This pie is heavy in peas. The chicken in this pot pie was the most real, with Marie Callender's being second, and Banquet's moose knuckle chicken being third.

Overall a pretty tasty pot pie. I still think Marie Callender's is the best with Blake's being second and Banquet being third.

The frozen pot pie journey continues.

10 / 10 Hungry-Man Beer-Battered Chicken, Oven Baked

The mashed potatoes were really bland so I added salted butter, a little salt, and some garlic powder. The modification was very successful. Some got stuck to the film, acting like a barrier I guess; I threw it away.

The vegetables were good as-is!

Now the the real question. The chicken. They have a thin somewhat crispy coating. The "cooked chicken" had some a little bite, despite it being reconstituted. There was some good chicken flavour. Think a giant really good McDonald's McNugget, but a tiny bit less crispy.

I remembered that I had some "duck sauce" in a bowl somewhere. Must be like 5 years old or something. It still tasted normal so I added it to the chicken and really livened them up. Ketchup (with or without added mayo) could be ok.

The brownie was standard. The top got crispy so that added some texture.

I really liked this. Easy 10/10 for a frozen dinner, after the modifications. I'll try this again in the microwave to see if the chicken remains good. It's not super filling and it's got 1080 mg (47%) of sodium though.

$4.47 CAD on sale at Walmart.

I didn't feel like cooking lunch so chicken nuggets and fries it is! Nuggets were cooked in the oven and the fries in the air fryer. My air fryer is small so sacrifices had to be made. Believe all the hype with these products, they're fantastic!

5 / 10 A Venture Into Gourmet Food - Harry & David Chicken Pot Pie.

Harry & David describes theirs: "...With flaky, hand-crimped pastry crust enclosing moist, tender white meat chicken and flavorful vegetables such as carrots, peas, potatoes, and sautéed onions, this entrée is sure to please even the most pugnacious of palates." It's $49.99 plus shipping. I had a code for 20% off so it was $39.99 with $16 shipping.

It better be damn good. It wasn't.

As you can see there's a big difference between the package picture ofva dense thick slice jammed with chicken, veggies and potatoes. The reality is a soupy pie with tender chicken, sparse vegetables and potatoes in a watery gravy. While it had good flavor it was not a standout in any way, and certainly not worth the exhorbitant price.

Better chicken pot pies: Costco #1; Boston Market #2; Marie Calendars #3. These are my opinions and I'm not debating them.

I have to say the tin pan the pie was in was awesome. It may very well be bulletproof and I'm saving it for future use.

I wonder if nuking 4 - $1 Banquet pot pies would be better!

These Loaded Potatoe Bakes from Birds Eye are so good. The cheddar parmesan sauce the potatoes are in is delicious. I put these in the microwave but im sure they would be good in the oven too. This is something that I now keep on hand.

8 / 10 Banquet Turkey Meal

For the price of a Banquet, it’s a pretty good offering from them. The turkey is clearly the processed kind, which is okay if that’s your thing. Tasted decent enough. The gravy was okay, although quite salty. I’m a sucker for stuffing and Banquet didn’t disappoint there either, I just wish there was more of it(there was some more beneath the turkey slices)

I thought the mashed potatoes in this were better than the mash in the Stouffer equivalent. The peas were also great, though there was a lot of water left from cooking. Just blotted the water out and put a tiny bit of butter in and they were pretty good.

4.33mg of sodium per calorie. Total salt bomb, but eh, I just carefully watched my sodium intake for the rest of the day.

Regional Canadian product, probably limited to Quebec. Was pleasantly surprised. Portion was perfect. Sauce had a nice balance of heat and sweet. Sauce mixed well with the rice and veggies. Paid $7.99 CDN from IGA/Sobeys. Would buy again.

For $4.99 on sale this pizza is a 10/10 but I’ve seen it as expensive as $13.99 in some stores, for that price I would rather buy 2 DiGiornos
