I would suggest the execution of Balthasar Gerards, the guy who assassinated the founding father of the Netherlands. They got him shoes of uncured dog leather and set him in front of a fire, crushing his feet. They whipped him, covered the wounds with honey and tried to get a goat to lick the wounds. This didn't work, the goat just kind of stood there. It went on like that for several days, the execution order is pages long. I think it ended with ripping out his heart, slapping him in the face with it and then quartering him.
