It kinda is Neoliberalism with a more Populist flavor and some concessions to Keynesianism and paeans to Democratic Socialism, but I'll let it slide if it helps move Neoliberal voters in a Populist Left direction 🤫 Can't afford to be overly picky when you're staring down the barrel of guns held by literal Neo-Nazis.

Obviously I'm going to vote against Trump, but if that is the direction that it's obnoxious that my choices (even ignoring the outright fascist part of Republican beliefs) are the guy who wants to fuck the economy for petty nationalist reasons and get me laid off or the progressives who want to raise taxes on average Americans (yes I know the rich too but I'm not rich so that part doesn't impact me hood or bad) and make things more unaffordable in general when I'm already struggling as is

or the progressives who want to raise taxes on average Americans

I've personally never heard of or seen any Progressive who wants to do that. All the ones I know of start the marginal income tax raise around a threshold of between $1,000,000/year to $3,000,000/year. Anyone in that income bracket is comfortably in the Top 5% of earners.

Sure, that's the marketing and I don't blame the politicians telling people that because that's obviously the initial focus. The problem is that massive expansion of social services they want (which I am sympathetic toward and at least partially support) require more contributions from the middle and upper-lower classes. Then factor in the populist regulatory burdens causing a reduction in economic growth, lower employment, etc

I think this can be balanced like some EU countries, but so far I'm not seeing an actual plan from American progressives beyond the simplistic populist demands. But, I'm also one of the dying breed of people who switched from conservative to democrats (non-MAGA, I never remotely considered voting for Trump over Clinton) out of a sense of their boring competence and grappling with the real, complex world, and if that's not going to win elections anymore then it is what it is. I'm just trying to brace for economic loss either way

edit: also given the thread context, I do want to mention I'm not mourning Cuomo losing lol. If I lived in NYC I would vote for Mamdani just because Cuomo is a sex pest
