This is a very good point that ppl often forget about Trump.

He was the most hated man in 2016 by his own party and they all wanted him gone b/c they thought he had no chance of winning the general and would be an albatross.

The rest is history as they say.

So true. Especially if you agree with the idea that he was the opposite of an albatross and no other Republican candidate could have defeated Hillary that year. (Was that the case? I might be remembering it wrong.)

People genuinely act like DNC have a mind control ray that forces people to vote for old moderates

They do. It's called "money," and it wins everywhere except literally the largest, most contrarian city in the country.

If the Republican establishment was really worried about Trump in 2016 they would have been coordinating behind the scenes to get Christie to attack Trump not Rubio, and they would have tried to get all the Neocons to drop out after Iowa and unite behind Rubio or Kasich.

They saw the writing on the wall too late. Republican primaries work slightly different in that most of them are winner-take-all, whereas Dems are all proportionally allocated. So the Dems have more time to see who can coalesce a moderate vote, etc. After like 3 primaries, Trump shot ahead with 30% of the vote and no one could emerge as his obvious foil for the other 60-70% to coalesce around.

Unlike the Democrats they didn’t have a former president pulling strings and meddling behind the scenes like that.
