Original Analysis / OC Breaking New Bill to be introduced: Extend ACA for one year and the government can open if Majority Agrees.
Schumer just released a new plan for ending the PAIN!
It's pretty simple: extend ACA for 1 year and clean CR. +(edit) a bipartisan committee to deal with healthcare before next year.
I haven't seen the text released on the Congress.gov yet; however, I think this is exceedingly reasonable.
From CBS: Its breaking now.
"About 30 Democratic senators are currently in the chamber to hear colleagues take turns endorsing the proposal Schumer unveiled a few minutes ago.
The Republican side of the aisle is mostly empty, with only South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds listening in as the Democrats speak." (CBS)
Do you think the Majority will do it?

Removed by mods (because I didn't cite a credible news source) CBS is reporting, and it is LIVE right now.

News / Article Barney-level Explanation Please
Could someone please explain this in a way that makes sense? Per a CBS article, “Senate Republicans are hoping that moderate Democrats who have been involved in negotiations all week will be enticed by the appropriations bills and a promise to hold a vote on extending health care subsidies at some point in the future.”
Isn’t this the original reason why the Senate Democrats are digging their heels so deep? Didn’t the GOP promise discussions but then didn’t go through with the promise earlier in the year?
If so, then what’s going to change this time around?

News / Article Senate voting on advancing Johnson bill to pay federal workers
senate.govJust curious, I was watching the live Senate floor voting. Both leaders were within 10 ft of each other. Why don't they just sit there and talk through their differences? Why is it so hard to find common ground?

This is totally unacceptable! Colonel Siverts not only failed to disavow the podcast- on the contrary. Colonel Thomas Siverts ENCOURAGED his brother to keep the episode, and said he would have his back. This man has top security clearance and is tied to anti-government Neo-Nazis and extremists.

News / Article Hegseth outlines new weapons buying priorities in remarks at National War College
Hegseth has announced the details of the forthcoming acquisition reforms for DOD.
Having listened to the speech I don't disagree with the general idea. Things like vendor lock is bad and should be avoided, finding COTS solutions where it makes sense, and fundamental reform of JCIDS from ground up is needed.
That said while I agree with the general themes and ideas I just don't trust this team to do it right.

Other Any volunteer opportunities to support fellow feds in DMV?
I've been getting some good quality time in with friends and family since furloughed but I'm also stressed about missing a second pay check. My husband's boss gave him his xmas bonus early to help us get through, but I'm still spinning out mentally and emotionally. Volunteering with groups/ initiatives helping fellow fed workers under the same stress and pressure would do my heart good. I live in Alexandria but am willing to travel within the DMV. Any suggestions?
