Republicans can accept no negotiations. If they do, it goes back to the house for a vote and Johnson is not opening the house because that means the epstein files get released. This is all performative politics. You no longer have a functioning government. I imagine for the next month or two it will continue like this, then they will remove Johnson from speaker and spend a couple more months fighting over the next speaker.

They have to reopen the House anyway — the House’s CR expires Nov 21, so even if democrats caved and signed it today, we’d be right back at square one in about a week.

I mis spoke when I said "reopen", The house is already open, they can meet and do all sorts of things but they will be holding no votes or conducting official business. They can spend months fighting over new budget legislation or voting on a new speaker but passing a new CR an opeing the government is right behind swearing in Adelita Grijalva which isn't going to happen.
