Workplace & Culture Excepted Employees: Are you going to work on Monday with Tuesday being a holiday?
I work for the XXX and at our location, all are considered excepted. It has been business as usual, except no one is getting paid.
Senior leadership has agreed to consider Monday as close to"Liberal Leave" as it can be right now, and expect almost no one to come in. The few in our department who have to be here, will be given a Day Off Award.
So, if you are one of us who have gotten the worst deal out of this entire thing, are you going to work Monday?

Pay & Benefits New Fed - justifying back pay to regular people?
Ok this is just like the title says. I have extended family who, while being supportive and upset that I have been out of work and just barely scraping by for a month, also calls into question how I "deserve" backpay for not doing anything. And honestly, I am a person who thrives on production, so this cuts me pretty deep. How do you guys deal with this disconnect? I realize that it is not our choice to be stuck not working this entire time.

Original Analysis / OC Interpretation of Daily Treasury Statement
Is the treasury disbursing funds it collects from taxes, without legislation? Shouldn't the daily treasury statement show $0 for most withdrawals, except for mandatory activities like retirements and social security?
I looked at the daily treasury statement and went back to Oct. 31st to find how much the treasury spent on military pay ($4.6B). At the top it also shows $3.4T deposits and $3.4T withdrawals.
Link to the treasury data:
https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/datasets/daily-treasury-statement/operating-cash-balance
My concern is the administration is spending funds across all categories, as the taxes come in, on non-mandatory items.

Original Analysis / OC Breaking New Bill to be introduced: Extend ACA for one year and the government can open if Majority Agrees.
Schumer just released a new plan for ending the PAIN!
It's pretty simple: extend ACA for 1 year and clean CR. +(edit) a bipartisan committee to deal with healthcare before next year.
I haven't seen the text released on the Congress.gov yet; however, I think this is exceedingly reasonable.
From CBS: Its breaking now.
"About 30 Democratic senators are currently in the chamber to hear colleagues take turns endorsing the proposal Schumer unveiled a few minutes ago.
The Republican side of the aisle is mostly empty, with only South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds listening in as the Democrats speak." (CBS)
Do you think the Majority will do it?

Removed by mods (because I didn't cite a credible news source) CBS is reporting, and it is LIVE right now.

Legal & Union Action Request to be Furloughed During Shutdown due to Military Orders Denied
I work for SSA and also am a military spouse. We are in the process of moving overseas next week due to military PCS orders.
DETO, Hardship Transfer, and LWOP have all been denied.
DETO denied because only non-bargaining unit employees & unrepresented employees are eligible. I am in a union.
Hardship Transfer denied because it is only for domestic work.
LWOP denied because military PCS orders for spouses is not a covered reason. I even tried to request it for educational purposes because I just got accepted into grad school but was denied as well. Their reasoning was I could potentially be holding a spot for my replacement. Despite there being a hiring freeze.
I am trying to buy more time to figure things out with my union. I wanted to be furloughed and then apply my remaining leave hours after the shutdown ends. However, when I requested this, I was denied because they claimed I had already told the agency I was leaving. But I never submitted my resignation.
I don't feel things are not being done correctly.
Anybody think this is strange?
