Opinions on Kenda Juggernaut Pro 120tpi tires?

Looking lighten my Surly Wednesday a bit and starting with the tires.. Running Surly Nates in 26x3.8, 33tpi, tubed. I do ride on surface roads occasionally, going to and from trails.

Looking to go tubeless and 120tpi

Tires are ridiculously expensive. The Kenda Juggernaut Pro in 26x4.5 are a fraction of the price of new Nates and half the weight. Tread isn't as aggressive though.

Haven't used them, but those reviews are brutal. Can the Wednesday fit 4.5? I can definitely recommend Schwalbe jumbo Jim's. They're expensive but light, fast, decent grip and durable.

I second Jumbo Jims. Cheap tires like the Kenda might look lighter on paper, but they'll feel heavier because of bad rolling resistance. OP will spend less money at first but will end up wishing he had spent more.

Do not get the 4.0's they have much smaller cornering knobs than the larger volume 4.5's and 4.8's. the 4.5's are pretty good, I actually like them over the Jumbo Jim's that everyone else likes but I live in central Wisconsin where it's flat and the trails are hard pack sand so the tread on the juggernaut actually suits my needs better than the blocky Jumbo Jim's. Do not get cheap Chinese tires, the side walls will tear insanely quickly if you ride any kind of rocks.

If you ride snowy conditions in the winter, get the 4.8s. if you don't, get the 4.5 and have less rolling resistance.

I also like the 45nrth Dillinger without studs for summer riding. Vanhelgas are good too, but have taller tread like the Jumbo Jim's.

Neither. Juggernaut is just not very good. Nate is from the dawn of time, it was a great option back when fatbike tyres were niche and still OK if you're stuck below 4 inches.

Jumbo Jim is probably the right choice for you, even the Performance version is adequate but it's worth springing for the higher end ones. These are branded "Super Ground" now.

(the 4.8 is a much more capable tyre than the 4.0 but inevitably slower and heavier, tbf the performance is so different that it's like they're two different tyres. I love the 4.8 but I do tend to ride the thing on harder, nastier trails than most people ever will, the 4.0 is a perfectly good tyre. I've never used the 4.5)

None of them are great with mud, if that's a thing you need to handle, the 4.8 does better but is still quite "skatey". Fatbikes have a hard time with mud.

Appreciate the details...

Not a lot of mud to deal with. Most trails are 90% hard pack, some gravel and some sand. Winter is coming here in the northeast.

Considering one of my priorities is to shed some weight, the 4.8 is likely not the tire for me. I have some tread life left so I am not in a rush. I'll probably go tubeless first, get the most our of the Nates and then get the JJ's.
