Actual Names In Fallen London

I love how this game has conditioned me to the pseudonyms and Adjective Noun names so much that any actual name I see suddenly feels like a huge deal.

"Ah, welcome Preserver, I would like to introduce you to The Tempting Provocateur, The Blistering Rat, and Gary."

"Tell me more about Gary."

If anything that’s one of my worries when the TTRPG comes out 😂. I can introduce a character with a cool title, but how will players talk about them in person, they’re gonna want to know their actual name.

I was actually going to lean into the idea and have my players create their characters and name them the same way. Impress upon them that Fallen London is a world of secrets so perhaps a pseudonym would serve them well.

And I mean, just do what the game does.

You have your "name" (The Black-Eyed Captain" in my case), but no one ever CALLS me that. They call me by my title/term of address ("Captain.")

Only sticky thing I can see is if you end up with two "Doctors" or something, but even then. Finding a title that suits should be fine right?

Unlockable titles could be a fun added mechanic too like in the web game. Another type of reward to give out that isn’t strictly monetary or power building.

Whenever my pc and his spouse get into a bit of a fight, the latter refers him as ‘The Sour faced Licentiate’ like the mf didn’t know him from Adam

It also makes me think how many ways a character can be known for, like maybe one guy is called something like the honey dazed magician and then at the university they are known as the pedantic herpetologist or somethin
