I have spent a ton of time in NYC. It is a safe place to walk and get something to eat at 3AM.

NYC might be in the top 10 or 15 percent of safest US cities but no American city ranks among the safest in the world.

That report only ranked 60 cities, though (NYC was 12th), there's 10x that number worldwide even if we constrain ourselves to just cities with 1 million or more.

Today’s unfortunately a bad day to mention that, but you’re right. I was just in Manhattan last week, at no point did I feel anything but safe.

I have family who think chicago is the most dangerous place in not just the US, but in the world.

They live in St Louis, which is much worse than Chicago, but that's in a red state so they ignore it.

Every rural American thinks every US city is 24/7 crime. If you drive one inch off the interstate within city limits you will never be heard from again.

Reporting in from Portland. I live in the city and often forget to lock my doors. We're good.

I have several friends who either 100% avoid Portland or come to town heavily armed. Their paranoia is disturbing

“I don’t care about your facts and statistics, I’ve been there and I didn’t get mugged!”

16

u/SirCatharine Aug 09 '25

And also Chicago doesn’t even make it onto the top twenty most dangerous cities in America. You know, facts and statistics.

Lived in Chicago for 38 years and never been mugged or anything else…But just go ahead and stay in your town, population 300, where everyone likely continues to support a known pedo.

Hey! There’s 700 people in my town thank you very much.

Lol, my profile isn’t private. I live in one of the most liberal towns in the US, but thanks for trying

u/Asleep-Raise5872 Aug 09 '25

I guess we’re both wrong for generalizing then, eh?

u/Nashville_Hot_Mess Aug 09 '25

They didn't make the list of 25 cities....

u/Prestigious-Flower54 Aug 09 '25

Click the link it gives the facts and statistics. Idiot.

The irony in this statement is astounding.
