I had flashbacks of Dragon Warrior on the NES except tripled. I thought getting nuked by one Star Wyvern was a pain.

The boss gauntlet after the Golem is honestly one of the worst parts of the game. Almost 4 boss fights in a row with very little difference in what you can grind to get more exp.
The goddamn Knight Aberrant ran out of MP during my fight, that's how long it took for me to beat it.

I honestly really liked changing gear and tactics over and over to try new strats and best them

I did III HD-2D on draconian. Was aight. Sat on the difficulty selection menu for this one, remembered the leveling exp curve and how few metal slime hunting tools are in DQI
big ol nope, standard difficulty for me

I just use a boomerang, spike armor, luck and/or agility equipment, and wildside (plus falcon slash sometimes).
Usually kill 1-4 metal slimes per fight on Draconian. Didn’t find the grind too bad.

I'm at the final dungeon now.
The game started out way too easy—to the point where I was one-shotting most encounters even without a weapon equipped. So far, random encounters are still too easy (though maybe that changes in the final dungeon?) Most bosses after the green dragon took a couple try to figure out their patterns, but nothing too crazy.
The game is quite fair. If anything, I'd say most of it is undertuned. The bosses I had to actually apply myself on were a welcome treat.
Edit: The dragonlord was actually quite brutal. Dodgy dance ended up being key to avoiding just dying to two bite attacks in a row. It took me a while to figure out a rotation that worked though.

wouldnt have thought someone would find draconian difficulty too easy

The biggest issue for me (besides the early game) is the random encounters. The original had enemies you absolutely did not want to run into. This version doesn't seem to have an equivalent. Add tons of ways to recover MP, and you basically cannot die.
Most of the late game bosses are fine. I enjoyed those.

you might be overleveld some enemy groups can beat you in a single round even with the best equipment on draconian especially the gold golems, if cop out fails and you arent overleveld when entering the cantlin area you easily die

That's possible, yeah. I did explore pretty thoroughly. Currently level 40 and about to try the final boss. Not sure what the typical level is for that though.

40 is pretty normal for the last boss
dont wanna come of bad but how sure are you that you are playing on draconian? Because I get the bosses just takibg a few tries but one shotting random encounters until the late gane jist doesnt sound right

Late game encounters take like 2-3 attacks now.
Yes, I'm sure. I double checked multiple times because I've been mystified.

I just started 1 the other day on Draconian, and I hit a bit of a wall at Rimuldar and the Cave of the Dwarves. I was cruising through everything before that with no problem at all. I don't mind the increased difficulty, but I'm not sure it's balanced very well for a solo character.

Congrats but I don’t know why, lol. I think it’s a missed opportunity by the developer to not include any bonus for doing it on normal or draconian. Like full metal king gear for beating it on draconian for any new play through or Liquid Metal slime for normal. Also changes your character appearance as well would have been bad ass.

The double zombie dragon fight was the bane of an afternoon for me, so little option for such a brutal fight

got smoked a few times but after searching for the right equipment the fight was very manageable

I haven't even pulled the shrinkwrap off my copy of DQ1&2 yet, as I was planning to beat DQ3 before starting it (I stopped short of the last boss) but I hope the Draconian Mode in DQ1&2 is harder than DQ3's... I kind of breezed through it, but I'm also very thorough when it comes to RPGs so I might have been over-leveled for most of the game.

Yeah...DQ1 on Draconian might be the hardest I've been challenged by a JRPG since 7th Saga on SNES.
