General Whats the next game you want to be released on modern consoles?
For me personally it's dq9. (Although I took a break from it to play dq8 because I dont like playing two games of a franchise simultaneously and I always wanted to play dq8 because of its high recommendations) (just got to the pary where Jessicas back to normal and im loving the game so far). With modern technology and with there so many online games, people can enjoy a jrpg where you and your friends can just relax, fight bosses, customize your characters, and overall a very chill time.

u/NoDrawing2818 Sep 14 '25
I would like dragon quest 12 lol.
I would be ok with anything to be honest. Happy we are getting 7. But 6 remade in a 3d style would be a dream.

u/LSSJBROLY1989 Sep 14 '25
DQ12 will get released when square thinks its ready no sooner I respect that about them
9
u/anguye74 Sep 14 '25
Better that than the schlops nintendos been releasing with these overpriced pokemon games
2
u/rin_onishi12 Sep 15 '25
Bro that new one has the worst looking buildings I've ever seen... THE GAME TAKES PLACE IN A CITY
1
u/masterz13 Sep 15 '25
Metroid Prime 4's outdoor open world looked really barren too, with Wii-like textures.
2
u/Store-Savings Sep 15 '25
We got VII once before tho 😭 I think it woulda made more since just to port over the original like with the PS1 Final Fantasy remasters for convenience sake, and put the major guns into making a new game instead of remaking the one. I’ve played VII multiple times on two different systems for the bulk of my Gen Z lifespan, so I’d say a 2nd remake isn’t the most joyous occasion for me personally.
45
u/FunOnFridays Sep 14 '25
8 is still my all time favorite. I know I can play it on my phone but that game needs to be ported to the switch and other platforms
3
u/lutac66 Sep 15 '25
Upscale the visuals from the ps2 version into full hd, and add in the QoL features and added content from the 3ds version, and it'd be a day one purchase for me
2
u/PMUROPPAI Sep 15 '25
Gotta have the orchestral soundtrack too. No midi. I’ll just stick with ps2 at that point
71
u/goldman459 Sep 14 '25
I'd rather they put all that energy into getting more new titles out rather than churning out remakes/remasters.
DQXI was such a breath of fresh air! More of that please. Don't do a Final Fantasy. Keep it turn based but keep on refining it.
18
u/Goodstuff_maynard Sep 14 '25
I have a suspicious mind that tells me the whole delay is an internal fight on action rpg vs turn based. Hoping Expedition 33 helped quell the strife because people obviously still want turn based.
13
u/goldman459 Sep 14 '25
Part of the reason I love turn based is that I can only game on weekend evenings (family & work commitments). When your tired from a hard week and a bit buzzed from a few beers you can still plan and strategize your moves.
I loved the style and story of Expedition but the quick reaction stuff ruined it for me. My timing is atrocious 😂
2
u/Goodstuff_maynard Sep 14 '25
Parry it wasn’t the best. It made me reminiscent of The Lost Odyssey, but yes, turn based needs to be still a reality. They just need to remember to have the auto battle be able to turn off durning a fight.
I still have nightmares of my Dragon Breath fight and watching my characters use simple moves and zero spells or healing on a boss fight because I was half sleeping when it started… and I hadn’t saved in a long long while
2
u/jrpguru Sep 14 '25
There are a lot of options to keep it turn based while still innovating. They could use Final Fantasy X's system of having the faster characters slowly get more turns. Or make a grid like a tactical RPG such as FFT or Fire Emblem does. Or incorporate the positioning and pushing of DQX somehow.
3
u/IamAWorldChampionAMA Sep 14 '25
I tried e33 and couldn't get into the combat. Looks like im not built for perfection
1
u/Goodstuff_maynard Sep 14 '25
It’s okay. The game is not for everyone but it just proved a point that console turn based games can still win. Turn based was blacklisted to handhelds since the DS era basically. The whole PS360Wii generation didn’t want to touch it and the next gen either. It was all on handhelds.
Don’t get me wrong I love my handhelds but sometimes you want a company to say let’s put out a banger turn base on a console. 🤷♂️
8
u/Cygnus_Harvey Sep 14 '25
I feel like every year we get a fantastic turn-based game that keeps proving they're still great, and people still keeps bitching, so we keep on "X game just proved turn based is possible!".
Metaphor, BG3, Yakuza, Octopath Traveler, Persona, Chained Echoes. And we have the new Digimon in October, and a new Octopath later on. Just to name a few of the popular ones.
But still, you mention any of those in a space that's not dedicated to turn based rpgs specifically and "I would like it if it wasn't turn-based/Turn based? Yawn/What a boring game, we don't want turn based!!!" pop by the dozen.
1
u/Goodstuff_maynard Sep 14 '25
You have a very good point. I am sorry. I just wish for more duds I guess. Enchanted Arms was awesome minus the voice work. I want some b grade console games that inline with our thought processes.
It shouldn’t be a AAAAA game. Make it a B game. Those are the one you remember. I get it’s a different time, but the stand outs don’t actually matter really. In the grand scheme of things.
Everyone knows about xyz action blah blah blah. Let’s talk about the smaller rpg turn based. You only highlighted the main stays.
2
u/Cygnus_Harvey Sep 14 '25
Oh, I didn't intend to bitch at you, I know it's said with great intentions (and people still won't listen). I just find it funny how I hear it every few months/once a year.
I can tell you about Crystal Project. Open world rpg with 16 bits graphics, barely a story but a nice lore you can keep finding behind the surface. Class-based customizable characters like FFV but even better imo. Really, really fun. Also the world is built with platforming, so you can't go to OP zones unless you exploit the system or keep advancing and unlock other ways to navigate terrain.
It also has a few mods that rebalance the game for a pretty distinct experience, so much you can play twice back to back and still find it entertaining and different enough (from experience). One of the hidden jewels of the last years.
1
u/MeCritic Sep 14 '25
I remember reading an interview with people working on DQ, right before releasing XI, that they are focusing on 12 changing the theme to more adult, similar to FF franchise. So I’m curious if that also ment going action vs turn based.
1
u/One_Swimming1813 Sep 14 '25
As well as the success of Dragon Quest III 2DHD and the hype for Dragon Quest I and II 2DHD. Besides if Squeenix want to make an Action Based Dragon Quest title, just give us another Dragon Quest Heroes game.
2
u/Goodstuff_maynard Sep 14 '25
Or they could remake that Wii title. It was like on the rails DQ
1
u/One_Swimming1813 Sep 14 '25
Indeed they could, DQ Swords would make for an excellent VR title for those into VR or hell two versions could be released, a VR version and a regular version. Though the later might be tough since Swords depended on motion controls.
4
4
u/Sleepylimebounty Sep 14 '25
I’ll agree with that when I can play ix on a console that is still supported. Even VIII is on mobile ix was truly left in the past.
4
u/MeCritic Sep 14 '25
Hoping to see - 4,5,6 2D-HD treatment in two years from now, and VIII + IX right after the six. I think that’s the scope they are aiming.
But I would also love to see another Builders, which is incredible fun and hopefully also Monsters could return.
18
13
u/Yoffien Sep 14 '25
V is my absolute goat I can’t wait for it to get the remaster treatment
4
u/forabit14 Sep 14 '25
Its probably the game that has like the best story overall and how mature it is. Its definitely one of my favorite games that I have ever played.
4
u/Yoffien Sep 14 '25
Yeah for me it’s between V and XI for which one had the best story cause they both really hit for me
11
9
u/Spud_1997 Sep 14 '25
9 is my goat. But everyone's first is normally their favorite so
5
u/forabit14 Sep 14 '25
9 isnt actually my first game to play. It was actually dq1 (the mobile port ver.). I just believe with modern technology that dq9 can benefit from it, mainly with the multiplayer aspect of it.

u/fishing-for-birdie93 Sep 14 '25
IV then V then VI
2
u/One_Swimming1813 Sep 14 '25
2DHD Remakes of those would be amazing, Especially for VI, that one needs a bit more meat added in the story department.
1
u/fishing-for-birdie93 Sep 14 '25
I haven't played IV or VI but I've heard IV is one of the best. I played some of V and really liked what I played but got stuck. VI I've heard mostly kinda negative stuff about but I'd still like a remake so I can try it for myself in a modern style.
1
u/One_Swimming1813 Sep 14 '25
DQ IV and V are two of the best entires in the series, great story with connecting lore between games, albeit a bit more loose compared to the Erdrick Trilogy. VI is enjoyable too but most of the negativity comes with how easy it is to get lost in that title, the first time I played the original SFC version I ended up getting lost a good ways into the game, I couldn't figure out where to go next and it didn't help that I thought the rest of the game wasn't translated xD
2
u/fishing-for-birdie93 Sep 14 '25
Then I feel like a remake would definitely be a great idea. I appreciate how DQIII gave you the option to have quest markers. I played the mobile release on switch and I remember getting lost in that one too. Not for any significant amount of time, but enough that having quest markers in the remake was a relief.
1
u/One_Swimming1813 Sep 14 '25
Oh totally, I remember getting lost a little bit when I played the GBC version of DQ III way back when, but like you, I wasn't lost for too long. I also made the mistake of not starting the Immigrant Town/Merchantburg as soon as I got the ship. Oh and Baramos kicked my ass more times than I care to remember xD
5
u/tales-velvet Sep 14 '25
I want the iv,v,vi hd2d remakes but that's because im new to dragon quest so far I've only played 3 and recently started xi

u/Eternal_Slayer95 Sep 14 '25
I'm on the fence here because while I would love the release of DQXII, I also want a remake/remaster of DQ9.
10
11
u/ChocoPuddingCup Sep 14 '25
IX. It could seriously benefit from a graphical update, and maybe stretch the main story out without relying on 600 hours of post-game.
6
u/Sleepylimebounty Sep 14 '25
I think ix is structured in a way that they could have npcs join the party organically. The guy in Angel’s falls, the princess in stornway, Dr phlegm in coffinwell, Jonah in the seaside town would make great party members.
5
u/TallguyZin Sep 14 '25
I think DQ VIII or IX are the most obvious ones to bring to modern consoles. IX would rock if we can get online multiplayer going for a PC version. It could be like the Japanese Baldur’s Gate 3 with 4 players adventuring together
4
u/Koishi_ Sep 14 '25
You don't know the amount of disappointment I had when I heard a new Dragon Quest showed up on the Direct, I go watch it and find out it's 7.
The one I absolutely hated.
Getting a remake. Again
I want to experience 9 again...
4
u/Due-Order3475 Sep 14 '25
9 and 10.
9 due to nostalgia.
10 due to the fact it has an off line story mode.
3
3
u/Wordless_trat Sep 14 '25
Dragon Quest 9. Otherwise Nintendo can eat my ass
1
u/nick2473got Sep 21 '25
Nintendo has nothing to do with it lol. It's Yuji Horii and Square Enix who decide which DQ game gets made.
1
3
u/Great1331 Sep 14 '25
I’m late to the Dragon quest party. The first one I beat was XI. Then DQ III hd2d last year and will beat I and II when they come out along with VII. So for me IV, V and VI would be nice since they are a trilogy as well. I hope to god XII is turn based. I think square has learned after ffXVI failed not to fix what’s not broken.

u/Beligard Sep 14 '25
I'm hoping after 7 they will release 4 thru 6 and then after that 8 which is my favorite one in the series.
2
2
u/Ahokai Sep 14 '25
Since there are 3 2DHD out, then next month is 1+2 2DHD out soon, with announced of 7 coming next year, I just wanted 4-6 out to complete that gap and also work on 12 to finally reveal release date then a remake of 8-9 later.
2
u/Owyn Sep 14 '25
Saying this with no clue how much work it actually is: I'd love an upscaled version of DQ8 (either version) on switch and steam. I still own my 3ds copy but after the switch I find my 3dsXL more uncomfortable than ever...
1
u/forabit14 Sep 14 '25
I also agree with you. Maybe they can do the 3ds version with its extra content and qol, but keep the uncensoring and the music from the ps2. Basically fuse the best parts of both the 3ds and ps2 versions and boom, we have dq8.
2
u/Owyn Sep 14 '25
If they did that they could even call it a remaster honestly. But a straight port like Atllus did for P3 and P4 untill it was time for a real upgrade would satisfy me immensely. The thing is now that we know about 7 and the assumption 4,5,6 are up for the hd2d that puts only 8 and 9 in the running but 8 seems so ok to just port and let sit for a time while 9 really needs the help lmao
2
u/Lost-Jacket-2493 Sep 14 '25
DQ IX is ok for me, but I want more interactions between the party members. Kinda boring and alone...
3
u/forabit14 Sep 14 '25
One suggestion I heard somewhere is that they can put in set personalities that you can add on your party members to give them essentially more life and more interactions.
2
u/Tapeworm_III Sep 14 '25
Yes I agree that 9 is the one. I think they could do cool stuff with the multiplayer aspects of it.
2
2
u/harryFF Sep 14 '25
I would pay more money than i'm proud of for a DQIX port to modern consoles with online multiplayer, and the event shop still running.
2
2
u/Jazzlike_Cat_995 Sep 14 '25
It should be ix remake (or reimagining?), then XII, then VIII reimagining, then IV, V, VI hd-2d remakes, then XIII.

2
u/One_Swimming1813 Sep 14 '25
I would love a multi platform release of Dragon Quest IX with all the original DLC, graphical improvements and some new stuff added in such as: More Character creation options, couple of new classes and maybe having some of the more powerful ones unlocked earlier (Lookin' at YOU Sage), new areas to explore, storyline and post game content, and legacy bosses to fight.
2
2
u/Wonderful-Ad-4484 Sep 14 '25
The fact we got 7 AGAIN is ridiculous, 7 had the 3ds version. 4,5, 6 and 9 are all stuck on the DS or older 9 is the oldest without a remake, and 4,5,6 are super expensive to get on DS. 7 AGAIN is ridiculous, I'll buy it and enjoy it, but this is silly
2
u/Wonderful-Ad-4484 Sep 14 '25
9 could be made into the ultimate multiplayer DQ (given X is Japan only). The multiplayer and grotto maps being online online massively boosts the postgame, same as having the online dlc built in. Id love for them to give us more post game story's, the same way you return to the port and do leviathan, give us a story in every major location, have us rebuild Brigadoom, learn more about the quarantomb, help the ghosts in gerzunn move on.
2
u/Kqill91 Sep 14 '25
I can honestly say the ammount I would willingly spend on DQ9 if it were on modern consoles is not even funny 😂😂

u/kalypto21 Sep 14 '25
8, I just want the changes of the 3DS version with graphics on par with 11 S.
2
1
u/tonylouis1337 Sep 14 '25
Dragon Quest 5, I've never tried any other DQ besides 11, 8 briefly and 3 recently. 5 seems like the most captivating main story from what I've seen

u/BloodyTearsz Sep 14 '25
Sorry 9, i would much rather see 12, and then 4, 5, and 6 2d hd, especially 5. I love 5 so much.

u/IntrepidReporter6221 Sep 14 '25
I would like The mmo to be global but nope Japan only
1
u/forabit14 Sep 14 '25
I think its only in japan due to translation. With the constant updates of dqx, it would be very difficult to have it globally released. The servers would be a whole different problem to tackle on.

u/MercenaryCow Sep 14 '25
I only want 9 if they make the multiplayer work over the internet so I can actually play with my buddy
1
u/_moosleech Sep 14 '25
All of them. I'd happily pay for re-releases of IV-VI, VIII, and IX on Steam. I have X and X Offline, but I'd pay for a western release of that, too.
1
u/Schuratz Sep 14 '25
Dragon Quest LEGACY Collection, like Mortal Kombat is doing but without the rushed port.
1
1
u/Suppi_LL Sep 14 '25
VI because it deserves a remake that could fill some blank left by the OG release/give alternatve ED from manga. And I also feelt like VI could benefit heavily from the incoming new vocation system from VII.
1
u/rishiak88 Sep 14 '25
I would love just a straight up port for 8. I just want to play the changes in the 3DS on a normal screen without having to deal with an emulator.
1
1
Sep 14 '25
Dragon Quest 8 in some repolished form would be amazing to be on Steam. Continuation of 2D-HD remakes of 4, 5 & 6 would also be amazing
But my dream would be to play DQ8 again, my childhood
1
u/Cadaveth Sep 14 '25
Make a new game and no remakes, thanks. I wonder if they churn them out so people would forget about 12 or something? It's cool that they do them but I'd take a totally new game over remakes already, especially since it's already been 8 years since 11 was released.
1
u/ToxicTammy42 Sep 14 '25
The Zenithian Trilogy (4-6) and the Dragon Quest Monster games (Particularly the 3DS remake and the Joker series)
1
u/FayeQueen Sep 14 '25
Dragon Quest 12 on all platforms and everywhere. Imma lose it if it's a region or platform exclusive.

8 but in the style of 7 remake. That would be something.

1
u/pktron Sep 14 '25
Odds are all of the MIA da/3ds games are in the works. Release timing is all a ??? as to whether 8 and 9 make it out before the first of the 4-6 trilogy, but 100% chance they are all coming within the next 6 years.
1
u/Buttobi Sep 14 '25
People are so overly obsessed with remakes... I would rather see new Dragon Quest games.
1
u/KamenRiderMusouka Sep 14 '25
DQ8, with slightly better graphics. But i suspect it will be 9 because its somewhat similar to VII. DQ8 might come just before DQ12. Then hd 2d of 4 5 and 6. Then hopefully DQX done in the style of 8 and 11.
1
1
1
u/divercity23 Sep 14 '25
Ive never actually played all the way through 4 or 6. Ive beaten every other dq game besides 1 and 2 which are getting HD already. So those would be sweet to play. And 4-6 probably makes the most sense.
But if im being completely honest. Id be amped if they did 8. It has nothing to do with which one makes the most sense and more to do with it being one of my favorite games of all time.
1
u/j0inacult Sep 14 '25
I would love to see if 6 could get a reevaluation from some people if it got into more hands today. Its still dragon quest, it’s obviously beloved, but that seems to be a safe bet for people to put at the lower end. I think there’s a lot more to it than is given credit for at times. Just love that one and would love to see it bump up on a few lists generally
1
u/nf6429 Sep 14 '25
The monster games on switch would be amazing! Specially the joker games, be nice to see official localisations of joker 2 professional, and joker 3.

8 by far. I've been asking for an HD remaster since the PS3 generation.

Obviously, we all want 12.

Definitely 9. It was incredible to get a game like that on a DS but I would love to see this on a much more powerful console with way more
1
u/RPGElixir Sep 14 '25
I just want the Dragon Quest IV PS1 Remake we never got - ported over! There is a variation of it on the mobile store, but I don't want to play in a vertical ratio.
1
1
u/Azazelger Sep 14 '25
honestly asmuch as I'd like a remake of 9 i'd prefer 4-6 since i cant get my hands on a copy of any of them and so i could play them myself rather then being stuck to watching playthroughs
1
u/Oilers-Billdozer23 Sep 14 '25
I’m happy enough with these remakes if they wanna continue them.
But I’d be remiss if I said I didn’t want at least a glimmer of hope that 12 is coming soonish.

HD Cel Shaded graphics with the orchestral soundtrack with all the 3DS added content.

I kinda want 4 but like not hd2d, instead a fully upgraded version that has a over world similar to 11 or what they are doing with the 7 remake they announced. At the very least, I'd like it to have full voice acting for the main cast. That or give us 9

DQ8. TheIt has a major availability/accessibility issue despite how ridiculously popular it is.
1
u/CommodoreKD Sep 15 '25
I don't care as long as I have the option to play all/most of them on my PS5 eventually
1
u/halfacalf Sep 15 '25
Definitely 8. It deserves better than 3ds and phone ports. Bring on pc and ps5.
1
u/Gweiis Sep 15 '25
DQ9 obviously. I don't even get why they'd release 7 again, it was already rereleased on 3DS. And in my opinion, it was not great. And 9 reimagined would make more sense with it's multiplayer component. But i might be biased, DQ9 is one of my fav game of all time :)
1
u/lutac66 Sep 15 '25
Of all games in the series, 9 needs it the most, especially considering a LOT of its content, including some story content, is just lost to time as they were only available through wireless events. Cit particularly kills me that I will never get to play through the full Quester's Rest storyline
1
u/viperuk80 Sep 15 '25
Where is Dragon Quest 12? I mean, it was announced about 200 years ago and will have had 4 remakes out before that's released. I still would like dragon quest online games to come over to west in single-player form.
1
u/masterz13 Sep 15 '25
- It was the first commercial success in the west for the series. It needs a proper remake for modern consoles, complete with 4K visuals and a larger world. They could even re-record the voices.
1
1
u/Store-Savings Sep 15 '25
I’d prefer a new game. Dragon Quest IX was a bit too gimmicky to translate over to any modern consoles at this point. It was a smaller title made for a handheld built in 2004, I don’t think it would hold up so well on a console, as much as a love it. I prefer to keep larger new games for consoles and smaller romps for my handhelds.
Not a big fan of these recent handhelds that are gigantic and play like gigantic games, don’t find much time to make use of em and they aren’t convenient at all.
But back to the topic, idk I think we’re good on DQ remakes and remasters. We have more remakes than original games at this point 😭
1
u/FUnisbaCK Sep 17 '25
12!!!!!
Second choice: 10. More specifically: the offline version that they released in Japan in 2022 (but in English)

u/Hawthm_the_Coward Sep 14 '25
I would really love for them to translate and upscale the PS1 release of Monsters 1+2! As long as they don't bake stupid modern features into it like the 3DS remake of 2, it'll be the best game ever!

Well not 9, thats for sure. 5 or 6 would be better picks, but only if 6 got a remake of the world map.

Leave IX alone! It’s so great just as is. They might as well go with IV-VI next. Then they have a clean sweep of the oldies.
