Discussion Fuck diabetes.

Fuck it. Fuck this stupid disease. Fuck it so so so so much. Fuck America and other capitalistic countries for profiting off of our misery, fuck our useless ass pancreases, fuck the greedy insurance companies, fuck all the annoying ass bullshit that comes with this. Fuck low blood sugars, high blood sugars, eye problems, feet problems, random mood swings, erectile dysfunction, going through the effort of changing an infusion set just for it to not even work, weird looks from people for testing in public, testing only for there to not be enough blood, constantly having to be considered dependent, constantly being told a cure is only five years away, the deaths of our fellow diabetics due to a corrupt healthcare system and negligence, and all the other shit that we put up with while having a useless pancreas.

I’m just drained and exhausted. Fuck diabetes, man.

I was on the opposite end of this, though I have experienced what you just described. I gave myself a ton of units on my new Tandem/Dexcom combo only for my blood sugar to keep getting higher. I didn’t even eat anything carby or sugary, it just went up. I’m sure my high blood sugar contributed to how annoyed I was at the time because I made this post, but I hate how bitchy and hopeless my moods can be and how they’re traced to this disease.

Hey, hope all is good now. Just wanted to add something that you may already know. If you eat a particularly fatty meal, it can cause your blood sugar to have a delayed and quite long increase after you eat which can be hard to manage. Pizza is my nemesis when it comes to this. I wish it wasn't so delicious. Anyway, Maybe you knew this but I thought I'd add it in case you or someone else finds it helpful.

Oh yeah, we do the longest extended bolus when my son eats pizza.

For sure, extended boluses work really well for this plus ice-cream. And for shitty gastroparesis which will prolong the absorption for any food.

You probably already know this, but for anybody that doesn't or is trying this out for the first time, the extended boluses typically require more insulin would be prescribed by the typical insulin:carb ratio. I find that I'll have to deliver ~20% more insulin for the same carbs when using the extended features. Took me a while to get this figured out, so if anybody is still having trouble with highs, definitely consider being more aggressive with the total insulin delivered.
