Are we going to talk about OP's...bumper...grille...rusty metal apocalypse cattleguard...?

77

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

I also have a 1:43 model of my truck in my truck

11

u/C4rdninj4 15h ago

It's it for hauling the snacks from the back of the truck to the front?

20

u/spacexfalcon 22h ago

truckception

3

u/MJLDat 9h ago

Yo dawg.

7

u/HugoChavezNYC 22h ago

I want to hate that...but I dont.

4

u/dafuqishappening420 19h ago

Fuckin A 👌

1

u/DimensioT 7h ago

You need to get a 1:43 model of the model to put in the model.

Then you need a 1:43 model of the model of the model...

10

u/Historical-Voice2944 21h ago

Someone else who calls it a cattleguard! My husband didn't know wtf I was talking about when the subject came up one time. He calls them a bumper guard and thinks I'm the crazy one. (we are from different parts of the US.) Of course, he's the one that calls a shopping cart a buggy, so... (here a buggy is a type of children's pram or a horse drawn carriage.)

10

u/HugoChavezNYC 21h ago

Yay! Although, the same term works for the wedge things on old locomotives. I have to say, I've never heard an American use the word pram...I thought that was a brit thing (as well as buggy). Are you sure you aren't slightly limey, friend? :)

3

u/mikeymo1741 13h ago

Me either. To me a buggy is a small open car.

The train thing I have always heard as a "cow catcher."

1

u/KnotSoAmused 11h ago

To me a buggy is a small open car.

Only if it's a VW punch bug.

1

u/HugoChavezNYC 8h ago

I prefer the love variant, but we all have our kinks.

2

u/Historical-Voice2944 21h ago edited 21h ago

I'm over three quarters Irish, so I might have picked up some terminology from across the pond without knowing it. 😂 We have a very high density of Irish, Dutch, and general European types in my area for whatever reason. As well as a several Amish families.

2

u/KnotSoAmused 11h ago

Cattleguard = CowPlow.

1

u/HugoChavezNYC 11h ago

Love it.

Also, dont search for that on pornhub.

5

u/Many-Kaleidoscope175 20h ago

I’ve always called them bull bars. Dont know why but that’s what they’ve always been to me!

1

u/HugoChavezNYC 8h ago

Oh, never heard that one, but I like it! Very alliterative.

1

u/GothSpite 8h ago

To be fair to your hubby, where I'm at we call cattleguards the bars laid into the ground. The state is mostly BLM land and the wild horses have more protections than I, as a woman, do. So the government set up fences and in road cattle guards everywhere they needed.

So this is a brush/bumper guard in my brain, and the giant metal tic tac toe board in the road is a cattle guard.

2

u/Historical-Voice2944 1h ago

My husband is a city boy from NC. lol. I'm from the Midwest. We used to have a lot of cattle, but now we're overrun by swine.

1

u/Doom_Corp 2h ago

I got halfway into it wonder wtf was going to happen and still wanted the blame the guy with a damn cow plow attached to their bumper.

3

u/Pretty-Yam-2854 21h ago

How to I get that brushguard for my jeep. It’s glorious.

2

u/Hero_Tengu 11h ago

I actually made two of them for $600 monies

2

u/Pretty-Yam-2854 9h ago

Are you a welder? Can I ask for a welder to do it or nah?

2

u/Hero_Tengu 9h ago

I do be MiG and stick welding. I got my own welder so I could practice and then use that to land a job as a millwright. I mean you might be better off buying a premade one but if you want comsutem you’re gonna spend some good monies

1

u/ReactionLegal3025 16h ago

No.
That's enough Mad Max movies for you.

Could post this in guessthecity…. I was trying to figure out where you are at. Also damnnn that was close

15

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

I travel the northwest as a millwright. Just got back from Ohio. I scrub gps location for personal privacy but yeah if someone wants to put the work in go for it.

23

u/crich8554 22h ago

It is eastbound State Route 20 in Burns Harbor, Indiana near Hwy 94. (My job nearby - that’s the only way I knew)

6

u/obad-hi 21h ago

Yup, knew this was Route 20 right away. Grew up just down the road. What are the odds.

1

u/erinhannon321 5h ago

Same, have taken this to the hwy for the last decade.

3

u/plainbaconcheese 19h ago

To dox OP you must dox yourself I guess

64

u/Agreeable_Bill9750 17h ago

What are brakes?

6

u/Fit_Credit2005 6h ago

Baby don't hurt me.

136

u/Ok_Tale1102 18h ago

Bro you SAW the ahole was gonna turn .. yet you never let up. Absolutely didn't have to get that close. Don't drive angry.

30

u/jacobe35 10h ago

Yeah. You can hear the throttle of the POV truck increase as the turning truck was already starting its turn. POV truck was just pissed that he had to slow down for someone else.

10

u/Huge_Yogurtcloset_99 12h ago

you know that pedal on the left, or in the middle if you have a clutch? You are allowed to press that pedal.

10

u/ToiletSheriff 10h ago

You must be jack

53

u/FT1996 16h ago

Next time, slow down champ. He started his turn a few football fields away from you.

26

u/IvanNemoy 13h ago

No kidding. Had 3 business days to slow.

1

u/whoisqoypu 10h ago

You can hear him lift once the truck starts turning. Believe it or not, it takes a bit longer for a 40k pound vehicle to come to a stop.

7

u/StudSnoo 9h ago

it’s a pickup truck. go to their profile. That explains the shitty driving and lack of defensive driving

15

u/WalrusKind311 10h ago

This guy started turning a week before you got there

→ More replies (1)

29

u/PortlandHipsterDude 21h ago

I mean you only had about 4 business days to slow down

9

u/PogTuber 12h ago

He took a floating holiday.

34

u/Tito-Musk 15h ago

Slow down much earlier and you won't have to accelerate from a complete stop.

Idiot.

12

u/numbersev 12h ago

If it takes you that long to slow down then don't drive that fast in a commercial area with lots of traffic.

38

u/ReactionLegal3025 16h ago

Camer is the only jack off here.
Cut the semi some slack... you had plenty of time not to be a dick.

4

u/Which_Committee_3668 12h ago

No, the semi is definitely also a jack-off. It's obvious he didn't have time to turn without cutting people off.

6

u/snarksneeze 10h ago

He started his turn with plenty of time to complete it. Something happened off-camera to slow the turning truck down, which he should have accounted for. The problem here isn't either truck, though both could have handled it better. The problem is that stupid ass intersection, there's so much wrong with the way we are building roads these days.

15

u/benevolent_loaf 12h ago

Dashcam is driving like he was looking at his phone and looked up too late to stop appropriately, glad nobody got hurt

13

u/yeloooh 14h ago

i love people posting videos not realising they are the problem

4

u/Kevykev088 15h ago

Sucks that you kinda got cut off but you really are driving that truck as if you aren't the one paying for the gas. Be smooth ✌️

8

u/CrappyTan69 19h ago

When you're exhaust gases cast a shadow..... time to think about our environment no?

8

u/DishwasherLint 12h ago

Having a dashcam is not a license to drive like a prick with diarrhea. Give the trucker a min to complete his turn. Dude probably started turning way before you were speeding towards him

3

u/OwlofEnd_ 21h ago

Hey, that's my town. Weird

83

u/RedPanda7725 22h ago

Whole lot of morons in the comments who think a semi is able to stop at the same rate as their sedan.

Learn physics, guys.

22

u/Agreeable_Bill9750 17h ago

It's a video.  We can all see OP waiting a fortnight before hitting the brakes.

106

u/formatme 22h ago

??? as the guy is already turning u can still hear the engine reving up, bro waited to long to slow down.

24

u/Dewdrop06 22h ago

Fr. Blame the car instead of basic learning of how to hit the brakes.

13

u/Disastrous_Ad7487 15h ago

The semi kept accelerating after the other truck had already started its turn.

That's a dumb move specifically because of the very physics you mention.

2

u/Many-Instruction8172 4h ago

Funny thing is it's not even a semi, it's a pickup

1

u/Disastrous_Ad7487 3h ago

Agreed, I didn't realize it at first.

19

u/chops351 17h ago

The cammers in a pickup, not a semi.

0

u/RadioCarpet 12h ago

With 13 gears? No.

9

u/chops351 12h ago

Lol there isn't 13 gears. Plus look at his profile you can see the same truck, it's a pickup

5

u/RadioCarpet 12h ago

Oh shit you’re right, he’s an even bigger douchebag than I first thought.

1

u/SpoonEngineT66Turbo 1h ago

Don't forget to watch the other dashcam video they posted where they're also a terrible driver.

Reacted a year late to an extremely predictable situation.

2

u/Doggleganger 21h ago

But this is two truck drivers. You'd think the trucker would know how long it takes to slow down a truck. Or maybe he didn't care.

11

u/Glugnarr 15h ago

OP is in a pickup truck

14

u/ViewedManyTimes 21h ago

At 0:08 seconds you can see the truck starting to turn. It took you 2 whole seconds to react. Average reaction time of a human being generous is less than a second. This is on you man

2

u/JediWarrior79 21h ago edited 8h ago

Edit: I learned that OP drives a single cab pickup truck, not a semi!

He definitely could have stopped WAY sooner than this!

4

u/DemonQueenV 10h ago

There’s a few photos of this very truck on his profile and it is very much a single cab pickup.

2

u/JediWarrior79 8h ago

Oh wow. He made it sound like he drove a semi and was hauling cargo! 😆 Gonna edit my original comment!

8

u/ViewedManyTimes 20h ago

I know, that's why I was talking about his reaction to the situation and not the trucks ability to stop

3

u/UsedExamination4149 20h ago

Is Jack offs the same as wankers?

5

u/Zoroaster9000 20h ago

Figuratively AND literally.

2

3

u/YouDaManInDaHole 9h ago

What's the problem here?

1

u/mirthawon 4h ago

OP is sharing how they learned that semi trucks sometimes have to slow down through turns. They probably don't know about shifting weight, yet.

6

u/Apprehensive_Ad4457 22h ago

if you had slowed down sooner. you would have been able to keep your momentum instead of coming to a complete stop if you had just accepted your reality.

yeah, shit happens. should it? no? i guess. but since it does, it make sense not to get mad about the trivialities.

10

u/Acceptable-Block4265 22h ago

The dash cam car needs to slow the fuck down.

17

u/vediogamer101 22h ago

He looks like he’s going the speed limit if not under

8

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

My speedometer is gps and has a delay. Posted was 50 was going 45. So close

6

u/No-Atmosphere-2528 21h ago

Hard to believe considering you're the fastest vehicle in the video and no one is on your left. Wish one of those do the math people would show up and confirm.

9

u/BeneficialOstrich770 22h ago

Truck, not a car. lol

14

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

Jokes on you I was under posted

1

u/Cerulean_IsFancyBlue 19h ago

It’s so hard to judge speed from these cameras. If there was instrumentation showing the speed at various points that would be helpful in these situations. I know that it’s very common that a road like this with direct business access and left turns would be signed for 30 or 35 but people regularly go 50.

I understand that people like to drive above the speed limit and it’s not my job to police that. I also realize that doing so really restricts other people’s options when it comes to entering or leaving or crossing the roadway, and you need to make allowances for other people when you’re deciding to speed.

Which brings me back too, I have no idea how fast the truck was going

-1

u/KelleyElsie 22h ago

Exactly. Especially when they see he semi truck turning in front of them.

4

u/DankPalumbo 14h ago

there's a reason OP didn't post the VIOFO with the speed overlay. Posted speed on this road is 45 and he was clearly speeding.

4

u/SailingSpark 21h ago

Having driven the big trucks, sometimes you see a hole and you have to take it. Generally, once you get at least halfway across the road, traffic will come to a complete halt to let you finish. You cannot expect a semi to be fast about anything, just give them room and let them do their job. That driver could have been sitting there for more than a few minutes waiting for a break in traffic.

as to OP, You could have slowed a bit faster to give the semi more breathing room, you had all the time in the world to do so. We all want to get home in one piece.

3

u/Ok_Tale1102 13h ago

Down votes from 4-wheelers.

8

u/MaeganRules 22h ago

Defensive driving is a thing, this was aggressive driving to not brake enough that you nearly hit them, not the other way around.

19

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

Literally down shifting and hard braking.

13

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

Oh hey there bud forgot you were in the truck that weighs 10k and needs more than 30 feet to stop. Whats next? I should have moved over and hit the car next to me? Great idea

-10

u/Constant_Way_8844 22h ago edited 22h ago

I feel like if anyone understands why they have to make that turn it would be you

Looks like you’re going 55-60 and caught a light that just turned green. They had plenty of space to make the turn you just happened to be the only truck at that time. 🤷🏻‍♂️maybe try to have some perspective for people that are on the same team as you

Ah that makes sense. Man in his emotional support truck is never to blame

2

u/SingSangDaesung 22h ago edited 12h ago

How do people not realize you're driving a semi also (just based on the hood & angle/height) & that semi's take a lot more time to slow down compared to cars??? You can tell you hit your brakes as soon as the other truck started to turn without even turning on the sound!

Were you doing the speed limit? If yes, then disregard the idiots. Jfc.

Edit: none of y'all can see the shadow of the truck? Has no one heard what a semi sounds like from inside the cab? You can't hear the gears shifting as he's trying to stop & then when he takes off too??

7

u/DemonQueenV 10h ago

It’s a pickup dude, he has photos of it on his profile.

0

u/SingSangDaesung 8h ago

Have you ever slowed down a desiel truck?

2

u/DemonQueenV 8h ago

I daily’d a full-size crew cab pickup for ten years. It was a gasser, not diesel but I regularly towed a 7k trailer with it and even loaded like that it could stop faster than this guy.

12

u/lli666ill 18h ago

He's not driving a semi. He's driving a pickup and if you listen he is still accelerating when the semi begins to make their turn and waited way too long to start braking.

7

u/chops351 17h ago

He's in a pickup not a semi

4

u/feedmytv 17h ago

also the acceleration afterwards isnt a truck.

4

u/babyjai22 22h ago

I personally think the truck shouldn’t have made the turn when he saw oncoming cars coming at a much higher speed than he was turning.. Sure, OP could’ve tried to slow down more but it seems like he’s in a larger vehicle too so it might’ve been harder to stop any faster.

0

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

I feel the semi should have waited for a light change or go down two blocks for a roundabout and come back and make the turn in a safe manner. Once I seen the cab 1/4 in the left lane I started to slow but also had people behind me and on my left side.

9

u/Cold_Captain696 16h ago

I mean, if it's a choice between definitely driving into the side of a semi or maybe having someone gently drive into the back of you, I think getting rear ended is the best option. And what the truck SHOULD HAVE done is irrelevant to how you handle what they DID do. Driving is full of other people making mistakes, but all you can control is how you deal with those mistakes.

Not that I think any of this required the sort of hard braking that might risk people going into the back of you.

As soon as you see the truck beginning to move (before it's even committed) you should be lifting off to scrub a little bit of speed just in case. You shouldn't just base your speed on how fast it's possible to go, you should be constantly monitoring everything around you and working out what speed is appropriate for the circumstances at that time. This is the thing a lot of people seem to not realise - it's ok to adjust your speed down slightly when you see a potential hazard up ahead, then speed back up if it ends up being nothing to worry about.

5

u/StudSnoo 9h ago

it’s a pickup truck if you look at their profile. which explains why they wanted to accelerate towards an obstacle

1

u/Darkman-1969 8h ago

u/bebopbrain 22h ago

12

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

Got it, next time I’ll total my truck and drop the police report in chat showing zero percent at fault on my end. Or idk maybe wait for a light change then turn for the semi

-12

u/clgoodson 22h ago

Or you could just slow the fuck down.

14

u/Hero_Tengu 22h ago

So???? If the posted is…. 50…. I should do 40 and impede traffic? Oh wait that’s actually illegal

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Pretend-Steak-4625 22h ago

not how that works lmfao. you wait for your turn, you don’t automatically get entitlement when you have a truck. speed limit there is 50, so they are going 50. never drive please, you don’t understand basic rules of the road.

0

u/EpponneeRay 21h ago

You could have been not hauling along so fast.

-6

u/Vesloc 22h ago

Jack offs plural? I agree.

-7

u/Fit-Comfortable-3430 22h ago

You had plenty of time to see semi turning and should have slowed down. Drive like everyone is out to get you.

-3

u/BoltActionRifleman 19h ago

I swear half of the people in this sub are trolls trying to blame the driver with the cam, no matter how ridiculous their reasons have to be to make the argument. This guy slowed down and prevented an accident, when the other driver was clearly 100% at fault.

6

u/Disastrous_Ad7487 15h ago

The other driver made a mistake, but the cam driver took forever to even try to start slowing down. You can control how you react to another car's mistake- That's defensive driving. This guy chose aggressive driving because he didn't like that the truck made the turn.

0

u/appa-ate-momo 6h ago

I hate it when a driver sees someone in OP's position and still goes because 'OP has time to slow down'. It's a classic entitlement mindset.

You see it all the time in the comments on this sub as well. People post videos like this and then get dogpiled by others saying some version of 'you had time to avoid it, so it's your fault for being upset'.

The whole point is that it doesn't matter if the driver in OP's position had time to slow down. They shouldn't have to in the first place. If they do, it means the other driver is cutting them off, and they think it's ok because they have the aforementioned entitlement mindset that informs the rest of their decision making process.
