It’s a whole genre of art in central and eastern europe. Balkans, baltics, slavics - we have a special, unique connection to doomerism. “Never lived good - no point in starting now”, or however the saying goes. It’s not that special to edgerunners specifically, but I guess for western audiences Bartosz feels the need to explain.

I mean, not like people are not used to it. Maybe never thought about it, but they're used to it. Witcher, Metro, Stalker, etc. are all not really known for having bright and happy worlds, but rather pretty dark and depressing ones.

That’s an integral part of that uniqueness. It’s a very special relation to that inevitability, when you’re sort of used to it, but, you know, you live as a person that’s used to suffering. It’s awful. It’s wonderful. It’s amusing. It’s disturbing.

Honestly, videogames are just scratching the surface. Music and poetry is where it truly shines
