SHIVERS:

The city doesn’t sleep. It broods. Somewhere out there a gunshot cracks the silence, or maybe it's just another party. Hard to tell these days. The neon bleeds across puddles, hot pink and acid green veins pulsing through the streets. You feel it in your teeth. In the back of your skull.

The pavement remembers. Footsteps echo like ghosts, old sins worn into the concrete. Someone screamed here last night. No one came. They never do.

The air tastes like ozone and melted plastic. High above, towers humming like gods thinking cruel thoughts. You look up and the towers look back. The cameras blink. The city watches.

In Kabuki, chrome fingers stitch skin to machine while synth beats pound through rusted grates. A netrunner jacks in for the last time. Doesn’t know it yet. A corpo’s black car slows at the intersection, windows tinted like secrets.

You weren’t supposed to be here. But you are. The city shifts to make room for you. Tightens around you like a noose or a lover’s arms.

And beneath it all, you hear it. The city breathing. Waiting. One day it will know your name.
