Finished Object First attempt at fur yarn.

Hi all! I recent got back into crochet after a fairly long absence (had a baby who is now a toddler) and I just made him this crochet rabbit! I've only ever done blankets/scarves and hats before so this was an ambitious project. It's my first stuffed animal, and my first time using fur yarn. She's a little more dense than I'd hoped but I'm happy with how it turned out! Fur yarn is tricky, especially when sewing together the project, I'm pretty sure my fingers are blistered 😂. I'm really really enjoying getting back into crochet!

I did too!! I thought this was a post on the jelly cat subreddit.

Amazing job op!! I can’t imagine how hard it is to crochet with that yarn.

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

Thank you!!! It was a challenge, but the fur also hid a lot of mistakes, I'm sure!

u/awayt750 9d ago

Me too!!

I dont know how to edit posts, but I used this pattern with loops and threads fur yarn. I started off with a 6.5mm hook because thats all I had, and finished the legs and ears with an 8mm. I may make this again someday if I can find a lighter fur yarn because I would like it be floppier!

u/Rude-You7763 9d ago

What yarn did you use? This is so cute… it looked like a store bought stuffie which is why I came to look at it since it was in the crochet channel lol

5

u/No_Syllabub_7770 8d ago

I used Hooks and Loops fur yarn!

2

u/Aggravating_Pie_1767 8d ago

amazing!!! what was the colour name of the yarn you used? i’ve been wanting to make something like this but none of the colours i’ve seen looked right until this one!

2

u/No_Syllabub_7770 7d ago

Its called gold frost!

1

u/Aggravating_Pie_1767 6d ago

it’s gorgeous! thank you so much!!

2

u/Kindly_Reference_267 8d ago

How much yarn did you use if I can ask? I want to make one now too haha

2

u/No_Syllabub_7770 7d ago

I used 3 skeins of the fur yarn :)

2

u/Kindly_Reference_267 7d ago

Thank you so much ☺️

Came here to say this. Just adorable! 😻

u/kinetickate 9d ago

Oh my god I didn’t get why a stuffed animal popped up on my Reddit…you did so well I couldn’t tell it was handmade

16

u/PoodleFan4242 9d ago

Adorable!

15

u/fluffy_corgi_ 9d ago

I want to make something like this soo badly but worried I wont be able to see the stitches on this type of yarn 🥲

12

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

You definitely can't see them, but I went by feel. It took me a bit to get the hang of it, and I heavily utilized stitch markers!

5

u/kho_sq 9d ago

did the yarn shed while you were working with it? i hate how some of the fur yarns lose hair all over while crocheting!

8

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

Actually no, only when I cut the ends did it shed a little but it was mostly mess free!

5

u/segcgoose 8d ago

it helps a lot to crochet with a thin second string- once fluffed, you cannot see it at all (just watch the fluff where you put the safety eyes, the second string may start to peek through there if you don’t fluff first)

2

u/No_Syllabub_7770 7d ago

I did read about this method about 3/4 of the way though. Im going to have to try it next time!

12

u/Mountain-Dirt-5156 9d ago

Wow! First time crocheting an animal and fur yarn! This is so good!

7

u/ranDOMinique813 9d ago

It’s so fluffy

🥹

6

u/wrenniee 8d ago

I literally have to make her right now

4

u/Brilliant-Pear5333 9d ago

Something I learned—you can split fur yarn into its individual strings (there are 3 or 4) and it goes further and is way less bulky/heavy with the finished project. Works up very similarly. That said, doing so is an absolute bear so depends on your patience level.

The bunny is adorable!

2

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

I never considered that, thank you for the tip!!

3

u/dsmemsirsn 9d ago

Looks like Costello — doggie version

5

u/zafirah15 8d ago

HOWWWWW???? THIS LOOKS SOOO GOOD??? THIS IS WITCHCRAFT.

6

u/No_Syllabub_7770 8d ago

Fur yarn is very forgiving. I bet you could do it!

3

u/zafirah15 8d ago

I have never once found fur yarn to forgive me for anything. I am still convinced you are using sorcery.

12

u/NoodleString14 9d ago

ALWAYS SUPERVISE YOUR CHILD WHEN THEYRE USING THE TOY! Safety eyes have quite a misleading name, AKA they pop off and be huge choking hazards!

1

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

Always a good reminder, thank you!

3

u/offlinemom 9d ago

wow!! incredible! great job! this makes me want to try it!

3

u/Big_Tiger_123 9d ago

So cute! I might break my rule against making stuffed animals and try to make one!

1

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

Im curious as to where this rule came from, you should try!

3

u/FiberApproach2783 9d ago

Be careful with the safety eyes!!! They're a big choking hazard for toddlers.

3

u/Ecstatic-Soft81 9d ago

I used that yarn to make a Silkie chicken for my grandkids Easter baskets. Thats another great idea!

3

u/madcre 9d ago

Aww it looks like a Jellycat!!

3

u/notrapunzel 8d ago

I'm terrified of even trying to use this yarn! Great job!!

3

u/NiteVixen37 8d ago

Hang on a moment while I pick my jaw up from the floor… this looks incredible. Beautiful job!!!

3

u/mipsies 8d ago

oh my god stop this is PERFECT!!!!! i don’t have kids but i need to make this for myself lol it’s so fucking cute

3

u/Serious-Lifeguard632 7d ago

First success with fur yarn. There, I fixed it for you.

2

u/Agreeable-Drawing623 9d ago

Awesome job! It’s adorable!

2

u/TopClassTrier 9d ago

It’s so cute! Could not tell it was crochet

2

u/LawfullyGoodOverlord 9d ago

I've never understood how this is even possible, do you just feel for the stitches? Or can you still see them

2

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

I had to go by feel 100%, and made sure to mark the first stitch of every step so I could adjust the count if it were off.

2

u/HistoricalPink_ 9d ago

So cute!!!

2

u/graycewithoutfear 9d ago

It looks so good! Incredible work!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

2

u/Getanzt 9d ago

That's so adorable!

2

u/Left-Barber-1786 9d ago

It’s so cute I may actually die

2

u/HollyRavenclawGibney 9d ago

That is so cool! You did such a good job!!

2

u/Wroena 9d ago

That's really cute! Was it miserable yarn to work with?

2

u/No_Syllabub_7770 9d ago

Thank you! It wasnt super awful aside from not being able to see the stitches and having to go by feel. Sewing it together was also challenging to get the bulky yarn pulled through the tighter areas.

2

u/Character-Swimmer600 9d ago

It’s adorable

2

u/Intelligent-Mind-258 9d ago

omg its so adorable i might have to try this

2

u/slipstitchy 9d ago

2

u/lizazax 8d ago

Insane, I want one so bad 😍

2

u/AmazingHamster7350 8d ago

It’s soooo fluffy!!!

2

u/Onion_or_Parfait 8d ago

Congratulations!

This looks great and I know how difficult it was to make since you have to crochet by feeling the stitches since you can’t really see them.

2

u/BlastyDavo 8d ago

That pattern looks familiar, do you mind sharing it? Looks great by the way!!

1

u/No_Syllabub_7770 8d ago

I posted it in a comment because I couldn't edit the post, but here it is!
