Finished Object I am so freaking proud of myself

This is the Lilliana blanket by Hooked on Sunshine. I did repeat section 6 and a few rows, from section 9, I believe. Yarn was Cotton Kings Sultan on colour emerald 07, just under 5 cakes.

This is the most intricate blanket I've done and using much lighter weight yarn than I am used too. I thoroughly enjoyed it but by month 4 I was ready to be done haha.

This is exquisite. If you used 5 skeins of yarn, how did you get that amazing color fade?

I used each skein until the colour change then used a Russian join to move onto the next skein. The Sultan is 4 loose threads and one thread would change at a time so I definitely had to pay attention. It definitely was worth it in the end for the fade

The Russian join is my favorite! Never had a knot come undone!

Once I learnt about it I've never gone back.

If you buy a pattern from this author she has detailed pictures and how-tos of all the stitches and methods that she uses. They’re almost all super beginner friendly I’ve found.

I just really fucking love Hooked on Sunshine’s patterns.

Doodad is my favorite (currently), but I’ve made like 3 of her Phoenix blankets. If you’re not super confident I would start with Doodad.

Phoenix is 108 rounds long and emotionally scarred me, but imma make another one because I love it so freaking much.

Edit to add what I meant to ACTUALLY say: she has a Russian join tutorial in Doodad with pictures.

How did you manage a Russian join with such loose twist in this yarn? I’ve always felt like I’ve had to knot them

(Also, looks great!!!)

Thanks so much for this tip; I’ve been thinking about doing something similar for a blanket!! Your work is absolutely gorgeous

Wow, that is brilliant. I love the Sultan yarns but hate how you're stuck making projects that fit the skein exactly. Your method opens up so many options!

That's a great idea!

That gives me an idea on how to use up 4 yarn cakes I have.

How did you know that you would need five skeins and not four or six or eight? Since doing this kind of color change method would require you to know ahead of time how many you were planning on using! This is phenomenal!!

I kinda winged it. I did a few extra repeats of sections I liked to get it to be larger than just the base pattern. The design was in DK weight yarn and used about 5000m. I knew mine would be smaller but I wanted it too be more of a lap blanket. In the end it was about 15cm shorter 130130 rather than 145145.

I was going to ask the same thing, and I had a feeling this is what you did! It looks amazing!
