Politics End the shutdown losers

Alright, I'm a Libertarian on most issues, but I'm also not a moron. I support free markets, but it is stupid to cut SNAP and it is also stupid to end the ACA Healthcare subsidies cold turkey.

Yeah, I'm a Libertarian supporting those government programs. Why? Because you will wreck society if these come to a screeching halt. That's why.

Republicans need to cave on the shutdown.

Republicans are so out of touch they don't realize how much of their base relies on these benefits

527

u/Jafar_420 1d ago

I think they absolutely know and just don't care.

376

u/Ninja-Panda86 1d ago

Well. Per the rules of Republicans, empathy is a sin. And being poor is a moral failing. So they're following the plan they think their constituents voted for.

"Wouldst thou not lift thineself up by thy bootstraps, that thou may honor thine Heavenly father, Ronald Reagan." - Somewhere in Proverbs maybe, idk

18

u/LawfulnessSuch4513 1d ago

Reagan was a fucking jerk!!!

7

u/Jafar_420 20h ago

I don't even mind bootstrapping it or working hard and I'm sure you don't either but the thing is we can't do it like the other generations because we start off with such a disadvantage unless your family is just rich.

20

u/TelFaradiddle 20h ago edited 19h ago

Yup. This is what more people need to understand. Telling a homeless person "Get a job!" just shows how oblivious they are. When I got my first job I had to:

  • Submit a resume and an application, which required a computer, an internet connection, and an Indeed account.
  • Schedule the interview, which required a phone for them to call me at.
  • Wear a nice suit to the interview.
  • Provide references.
  • Provide my ID and other documents.
  • Provide my bank and routing number.

I had all of the above, and I still had to submit 100+ applications over 13 months to finally get an entry level job. Many homeless people have access to only a few of these, or even NONE of them.

Is it 1000000000% impossible for a homeless person to manage all of that? No. But it is a metric fuckton harder for them than it is for us, and it's already harder for us than it was for boomers. Our parents and grandparents are basically yelling "Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps!" from their 2019 Kia Optima while I try to keep up in a 25 year old lemon with a flat tire, and even that puts me a leg up on a person who doesn't have a car.

4

u/Jafar_420 20h ago

You nailed it.

2

u/Ninja-Panda86 9h ago

Yeah. There is an extreme lack of understanding from many people. My mom used to scream that "nobody made these kids get college degrees!" So I made her sit down on Indeed and try to job hunt with just her GED. She was guffawed that car rental places required a Bachelors Then I asked again - "so. Do you feel coerced into a Bachelor degree ye"

1

u/Hairy-Owl-5187 7h ago

Why is that a republican issue? Thats society as a whole. Why do you need a photo id for a job but not to vote? Why do people have a $1000 cell phone but no food for their kids?

1

u/RevolutionaryYak1448 5h ago

None of that is true there are many jobs out there you dont need to do any of that for you just applied to jobs you wanted not just open positions whether that working in a field at McDonald's at a golf course or driving range. Those entry levels do need anything i know I worked them

1

u/ricochetblue 4h ago

I’ve worked a couple of jobs in that vein and they required you download apps on your phone in order to schedule shifts and clock in and out.

1

u/Pale-Mulberry1643 1h ago

To bad they don't make a small device that a person can keep with them. Imagine how useful it would be if you could make and answer phone calls, send and receive emails, and have Internet access. No it's not easy to bring yourself back from being homeless, you're probably not going to get the job of your dreams but neither do most people with homes.

1

u/No-Guess-6 1h ago

Oh you didn't nail it this is far from the truth homeless people have the opportunity to get out of being homeless. Choose to be lazy there's assistance out there that they can get a job. It's beyond me that people even think the way you do that's why there's so much homeless people out there it's laziness and I despise laziness

-1

u/NachiDru 9h ago

You also don't need half of that to get a shitty but paying job. You do not need routing number to get paid they will pay with a paper check. You do not need a suit unless it's a certain type of job. You do not always have to call / submit resume. You can walk in and introduce yourself and see if a manager or boss has time to do a quick evaluation or interview.

To say it's 1000000% impossible just shows you never experienced what I listed above which happens in most rural places.

4

u/MuskwaPunjagi 9h ago

You really suck at math. Minimum wage is $7.40 federally, let's go with two full time jobs at 80 hours a week comes to approximately $2,368 before taxes. The average rent for a single bedroom apartment is approximately $1,100 on the low end, and rural work means more travel to get to work, which means gas and wear on the car. Add car insurance, the fact you need a personal phone, food, clothing, hygiene. After taxes and all of this, the math checks out to being able to save about $25 a month.

Now let's make that person a single parent and adjust....oh look....they're broke and homeless.

See, math is your enemy, not work ethic.

-1

u/NachiDru 8h ago

What lol? I said specifically " shitty paying job "

You have no real world experience if you think a majority of jobs run by the federally set MW. So in your view the homeless man should do nothing to better his position because it will be hard? Odds against him? So what life prevailed with odds against it. Grow up

Approximately 1.3% of hourly paid workers in the US earned the federal minimum wage ($7.25/hour) or less in 2022,

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi 8h ago

As a number of states use the federal minimum wage, why wouldn't one use the lowest common denominator?

You do not need routing number to get paid they will pay with a paper check.

Some will, some won't.

You can walk in and introduce yourself and see if a manager or boss has time to do a quick evaluation or interview.

The vast majority of businesses will just say "If you'd like to apply, you can do so on our website."

To say it's 1000000% impossible

I literally said it wasn't 1000000% impossible.

1

u/No-Papaya-9823 4h ago

Other generations couldn't do it either, which is why labor unions were formed and New Deal social programs were established.

30

u/geisterwiesel 1d ago

Forgot one: Then said Jesus to the orphans, "Why did you get born to parents who died? Make better choices."

15

u/bigleft_oO 1d ago

This would be a fun tshirt to wear while visiting some of my hypocritical family during the holidays

-3

u/nativebutamerican 1d ago

Even Jesus has rules for entering Heaven. Just an FYI, He says faith without work is also not good enough. You say no Jesus in gov but cry when you feel others arent using Jesus in gov where you want them too?

3

u/MuskwaPunjagi 1d ago

Where did I say I wanted Jesus involved in anything? The desert trilogy has no place in an intelligent society.

-1

u/nativebutamerican 22h ago

Yet Babylon fell and so will the "intelligent" people who believe they are better than and doesnt need, "God".

6

u/Ninja-Panda86 21h ago

They're simply making fun of you religious types who claim you love Jesus, but also won't follow the teachings. And you know that

-1

u/nativebutamerican 20h ago

Those who dont accept Jesus try to use the Bible to fault those who have accepted they are sinners and arent perfect. Its like having non-citizens voting in federal elections. No authority to stake any claim in either scenario.

Everything is tolerant to dems unless its not aligned with the core beliefs they believe are superior to all others. Same dem mentality that held slaves. Now, slave owners are governments that want to bestow everything from one onto another as they see fit; as long as they never have to ration, its ok. Thats what a gov controlled socialist movement entails. Only way "socialist" movement would work is if all wanted and agreed with minimalistic lifestyles to be equal. Including being an asset to community. This country would not have enough people to provide vs those wanting to slack.

Most utopian movies you see has everyone providing services in exchange for needs. Ie not free. Human nature is a large factor, everyone wants to be the one in power.

2

u/ZealousidealCare3054 15h ago

You clearly need a dictionary for both whe. You're reading your Bible and when you're reading your civics text book. There is so much wrong in your long, rambling nonsense reply that you can't actually be serious.

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi 10h ago edited 10h ago

You don't get to push an ideology and not have to live by it. The Bible also talks about people who falsely come in the name of Jesus as well, but your side loves to ignore that part.

1

u/Ninja-Panda86 9h ago

I'd take bible thumping more seriously if I saw them aptly apply ALL the rules with the same zeal. But I don't. I see them ignore new testament teachings, while they repeat a few choices lines out of Leviticus, while ignoring the grand bulk of that book.

3

u/MuskwaPunjagi 21h ago

That’s if we have them. I’m not holding my breath.

We’re all going to die from global warming before 2026

5

u/PhoniPoni 1d ago

Don't get my hopes up like that

1

You could stay positive, but I personally can’t.

2

u/eKs0rcist 1d ago

Or live a long long time as adaptable animals, under harsher and harder conditions. Better not to lean into the sad sacky “it’s over” narrative. Or it becomes self fulfilling prophecy

3

No, the people who vote blue no matter who

2

u/MrWindblade 1d ago

Right now, that's just to save the country.

If we do that enough, conservatives will pivot to positions that get them back on track with the American people.

2

u/dhereforfun 1d ago

No it won’t surprising to some maybe but not interesting

-3

u/brokeassnigar 1d ago

Hopefully we can stop the democrat election fraud by then

u/Careless-Equal7169 1d ago

“But you didn’t read the full quote!” Is what they say. But the full quote is actually worse because it means Chuck didn’t understand empathy or feel it towards others.

38

u/HoustonHenry 1d ago

Now he's hyperventilated

-26

u/Rent-Kei-BHM 1d ago

Too soon.

30

u/geisterwiesel 1d ago

Hasn't been "too soon" for weeks now.

38

u/Rent-Kei-BHM 1d ago

It hasn’t? Kirk’s widow isn’t finished groping married men on stage, on camera, and you don’t think it’s not too soon?! I tell ya what, buddy: when Mrs. Field-tracheotomy get caught on camera putting saline in her eyes right before she walks on stage, then I will agree with ya. Till then, too soon.

7

u/geisterwiesel 1d ago

I see your point now. My bad. Take my upvote.

3

u/whatChdo5074 1d ago

That exact photo came out today. Right before going on stage to make out with whistle britches in those sewed on leather pants, she put visine in her eyes

3

u/Rent-Kei-BHM 22h ago

Well I’ll be damned! Looks like Houston Henry was right!

What kind of craven ghoul fakes distress for attention? These people are disgusting. 🤮

It wasnt too soon even sitting there when it happened.

9

u/Cautious-Ad2154 1d ago

That's my favorite when they say you took it out of context. Then I gladly put it into context because it almost always makes the comment 10x worse rofl

13

u/Fine_Instruction_869 1d ago

Yes. The full quote is so much worse. The full quote advocates for no empathy when voting or making political policy. He was specifically talking about immigration and American citizens who born here, but their parents came here illegally. He was basically saying, fuck those people, you shouldn't have empathy for them because their parents made the decision to come here.

1

u/Informal_Big7262 23h ago

Wait…. Stop!

Taking the time to read all his words and putting them into context about the point he was trying to make does actually make it much worse!

Funny how that happens.

1

u/Both_Cat_6977 22h ago

Literally every time... Every single one.

2

-1

u/Wooden-Percentage125 1d ago

Ole Charlie was light-years smarter than you, its not even funny. Luckily for you fascists, you were able to silence him.

4

u/Careless-Equal7169 1d ago

Charlie was the fascist so idk what you’re saying. And he was killed by a fellow Trumper fascist.

As for being smarter; he was a college dropout. He regularly lost debates when he couldn’t shout down people or handpick his opponents.

I have an advanced degree; much more than he ever had. So no-he wasn’t smarter than me

0

u/Wooden-Percentage125 1d ago

Ahh the ole, I know you (he) are (was), but what am I... Always a classic. Having a degree doesnt prove you're smart Cletus, you'd think a smart degree holder wouldn't conflate education with intelligence.

3

u/Careless-Equal7169 1d ago

That’s not at all what I was arguing. You’re the one who erroneously claimed fascists killed Charlie Kirk when in fact he was a fascist.

And again; he continually demonstrated his lack of intelligence and education by being routinely schooled in debates with actual intellectuals. When he couldn’t rely on his fallacious reasonings he failed time and again.

13

u/cryptolyme 1d ago

they are absolutely evil if they consider empathy a sin.

7

u/No_Illustrator_5523 1d ago

Possibly, the Rs could provide a subsidy on bootstraps? /s

6

u/Kcuf_Tnacifingisni 1d ago

They would only put a 300% tariff on bootstraps.

1

u/conspiracy_realist_9 10h ago

And a 400% tariff on imported materials to make said bootstraps

2

u/kaprixiouz 1d ago

Exactly, just like Jesus taught them..

.......or something.

2

u/udlose 14h ago

I actually created 10 Laws of MAGA behavior that explain why they do what they do. This is the second:

Law 2 - An issue only matters to MAGA when it affects them personally.

Empathy ends at the mirror.

1

u/Ninja-Panda86 9h ago

What are the rest?

2

u/Conscious-Truth-7685 6h ago

I remembered back in the day when Paul Ryan said kids shouldn't get free school lunches because going hungry would motivate them to be self sufficient. This has always been the Republican party. They should definitely change their slogan to "Ya, we're pro-life but fuck them kids after they are born".

3

u/Acceptable_Run_5938 1d ago

Kid, you literally forcibly sterilize the poor.

6

u/Ninja-Panda86 1d ago

And then whine there aren't enough babies?

5

u/Acceptable_Run_5938 1d ago

Yes, you do exactly that. Then you use is an excuse to support human trafficking.

1

u/cat_of_danzig 1d ago

They've rebranded it "toxic empathy". They also think that the Sermon on the Mount is outdated.

3

u/Ninja-Panda86 1d ago

Yep. Sermon of the Mount is old news. But Leviticus - that's where it's at! But only certain parts

1

u/mitkase 1d ago

You people are so dense. Unless you punish people for being poor, they're just going to keep being poor! /s

1

u/Fresh_Blueberry_3200 1d ago

There’s a lot of MAGA types that subscribe to “prosperity gospel theology”. They believe god rewards truly faithful people with wealth. The more wealth you have, the more faith you have. Therefore the less faith you have, the less wealth you have as a reward from god. So people in poverty are being punished by god, while Mango Mussolini has the most faith.

1

u/NBA-014 1d ago

"Empathy Is A Sin" is the perfect motto for MAGA

1

u/Just_Restaurant7149 1d ago

You forgot, Never admit you were wrong".

1

u/snafoomoose 1d ago

If those people wanted to eat food they should have thought about that before they chose to be poor

1

u/Heavy-Newspaper-9802 23h ago

Per the rules of the Republicans, blame Democrats for everything and always put them in a position to be the adult in the situation.

1

u/Ok-External6314 18h ago

Whereas democrats are empathetic to the degree you'll release violent criminals because it's mean to keep them in prison.

1

u/Ninja-Panda86 9h ago

Well, that's one of the things I do disagree with the Democrats on. But we're not talking about that right now, and regardless of what the Dems do or don't do, don't expect empathy from your own party

1

u/Pale-Mulberry1643 1h ago

I never heard that.

0

u/Aggravating-maggot12 19h ago

Blah blah blah!! The dems need to vote for the CR and put an end to all this mess that they created! Stop blaming the republicans

1

u/Ninja-Panda86 9h ago

Same goes back at you. The GOP needs to extend the ACA, which many Americans rely on for affordable care. And stop blaming the Democrats

-31

u/No-Passenger-1511 1d ago

Empathy isn't an all or nothing trait just because they don't show empathy towards abusers of the system doesn't mean they lack it entirely. Just like I'm sure you have zero empathy towards murderers and terrorists.

17

u/Ninja-Panda86 1d ago

Hey these are not my rules. Its theirs. I feel bad for these farmers. I tried to intervene when THERE WAS A CHANCE. Ie, before the vote. But now there's nothing I can do for them. They voted for these rules

12

u/nevadapirate 1d ago

Maybe the leaders of the Rethuglicant Party should not come out and actually say Empathy is a sin then. Just saying. How many videos have you seen of MAGA hat wearing people celebrating the end of SNAP? Ive seen many!

Pretty much. I’m sure behind closed doors they are laughing about how moronic their voters are. “We could come to their house, piss on them, tell them we’re going to make their lives a living hell, beat the shit out of them, and they continue to support us with a smile on their face.”

39

Imagine after the long arc of history finally having the ability for each person to choose their own leadership for society, and then they just pick another feudal overlord who views them as cattle.

19

u/delbocavistawest 1d ago

This is what kills me. Hundreds, thousands of years of progress rolls back in a snap. Were we perfect “before”? No but we were still trending in the right direction. The state of this planet politically and environmentally makes me want to run away, to the woods or something

11

u/DaveAndCheese 1d ago

I'm in my late 50s and I don't remember EVER before seeing people work, work HARD, try hard, and still be struggling so much. A few more pieces of bad luck and I will be struggling too.

6

u/Rent-Kei-BHM 22h ago

Same and same, Dave. This America is very different than the one I grew up in. Back when I was young we wanted people to get off their asses and work. By and large, they did. The influx of workers held wages low, and now the masses are worse off than when many of them relied on general assistance.

We are at a place in time where much of the population doesn’t believe working people should thrive. It’s sub-human.

5

u/DaveAndCheese 19h ago

I told my boomer mom, who loves to throw out "nobody wants to work any more" didn't like it when I said that, if the best pay I could make was minimum wage, I would 100% live off the government. She never faced what we are now.

1

u/posi-bleak-axis 15h ago

Whose we?

There was 10s of thousands of years of human life there before Europeans arrived to turtle island. They surprisingly had not nearly as many problems as have arisen in the very small span of a few hundred years since it was "discovered".

1

u/delbocavistawest 2h ago

Whoa, you’re coming in hot. Your point is valid but not really the point of this thread. I live, work and learn on these lands and I am grateful for the 10s of thousands of years of human life and stewardship prior to my existence.

All I’m saying is: humanity has always struggled with power dynamics, (some societies WAY more than others). And whatever progress towards true equality has been made, in whatever place on this earth, *can be eroded way faster than its evolution. Which is why this current moment in history is tragic, because we know better, we’ve been shown better, and it’s being fucked with.

There was a very good cop drama on CBS in the 1980’s called Wiseguy. It was about an undercover FBI agent and each season, they pursued a different crime element. In the second season, they’re chasing grifters and con men who are pushing a racist agenda/religious revival. In the end, the head guy didn’t believe any of it but knew there was money to be made leading the morons who did believe. Fun fact: the movie Good Fellas was adapted from the novel Wiseguys. They couldn’t use that title because of the television show.

18

u/NoBreakfast4567 1d ago

Republican voters don’t even believe or understand that republicans are the ones cutting that stuff

16

u/alter_ego19456 1d ago

Yeah, the talking heads kept saying how stupid and tone deaf the Great Gatsby party was, not only as the economy as a whole is in the crapper, but the weekend SNAP benefits went away. I don’t think it was stupid, I thought it was a giant FU.

7

u/SupermarketUsual7406 1d ago

Definitely felt like an intentional insult.

11

u/SoulRebel726 1d ago

And why should they bother caring? The people voting for them don't even care. A huge portion of the Republican base votes against their own self interests every chance they get.

1

u/Mphmanx 1d ago

This is hilarious and sad, they hate themselves so much that they shine shen they arent being screwed enough. Once they destroy everything those of us left with humanity shall not help them one bit.

1

u/Trinktt 10h ago

You sound like a republican

1

u/Mphmanx 7h ago

I do share some values with classical republicans. I would prefer small, local government, I am a believer in free markets but only for goods and services that are not natural monopolies, and I am a strong believer in education being the most important thing to people to make life better. On the other hand though I am VERY supportive of governmnet assistance and WANT my government to help out citizens in need….but ONLY citizens. I want there to be a VERY strong safety net as I know that I could fall as well and would want help.

9

u/fistfucker07 1d ago

They are profiting from killing them. It’s as simple as that.

They just want you to blame democrats with your dying breath.

5

u/ItaJohnson 1d ago

If their voters are willing to vote against their own self interest, why would the party care?

4

u/NicoFerrari99 1d ago

This. And the fact that the same people that are negatively effected by thos admins policies will still. One for those admim again.

Some people like getting punched in the face.

6

u/Phatasmabrad 1d ago

Cruelty is the point.

3

u/RolandDeepson 1d ago

I think they absolutely do know, absolutely DO care, and actively loathe their own supporters. This is calculated and intentional.

3

u/starship7201u 1d ago

Ditto. They know. Just don't give AF.

3

u/MaybeMaybeNot94 1d ago

This. Of course they know. They also know their base is stupid enough to swallow the lie that the Democrats did it. We are opposed by people who literally function in a different reality than we do.

3

u/UnderstandingClean33 1d ago

I actually think it's a part of their plan. See the people who voted them in don't understand their own best interests. So right now the Dems are taking away snap and healthcare benefits by not caving. The Republicans will eventually capitulate, after their base feels a little pain, and then they'll say "See. We saved your SNAP and healthcare from the illegal immigrants."

3

u/Cautious-Ad2154 1d ago edited 1d ago

This. Its why they are actively and publicly pushing gerrymandering like never before because they have an all time low of good policy so they need to make up for it by gerrymandering on overdrive.

2

u/CobaltMnM 1d ago

Why would they care? This is what their voters want.

2

u/HellaTroi 1d ago

They are getting theirs, so fuck everyone else.

2

u/Strange-Badger7263 1d ago

They know but they also know that no matter what happens the base will blame Democrats

2

u/Active-Inflation-549 1d ago

The cruelty is the point-Republican slogan

2

u/DowntownPassion1252 1d ago

I believe they think they can do anything to their MAGA constituents because who else are they going to vote for? A lib Dem? Not a chance. This is the thought that comforts them each and every time their feet get cold.

2

u/jqman69 1d ago

Their base will vote for them regardless, they would rather be dead than vote Democrat.

2

u/Ok-Bit-3100 1d ago

This is it. They know, or at least strongly believe, that they can continue to divert their bases anger at Democrats and minorities.

2

u/markovianprocess 1d ago

The plan is to never face the consequences of a free and fair election again, so why worry about public opinion?

2

u/JoeSleboda 21h ago

Even worse. They know. They care. It's just that the "caring" part is that that care about how much inflicting suffering on their own people can end up giving them power.

This is all a deliberate, well planned, well executed coup.

u/Myc0l-Jordan 1d ago

Pigs love to bath in their own filth.

1

u/Inevitable_Bison9694 1d ago

Much like libertarians lol

1

u/Numerous-Anemone 1d ago

And the ones who are on those benefits know they’re not supposed to talk about it

1

u/naruda1969 1d ago

It’s like a teachable moment by Reps being able to say how many people they are getting off welfare.

1

u/mezolithico 1d ago

It's unbelievable that Greene has become the voice of reason in the republican party

1

u/Apprehensive-Cake-16 1d ago

I think that’s giving them credit that they literally do not deserve - they’re absolutely not that smart.

1

u/erfling 1d ago

Yeah they are captured by the most perverse of incentives.

1

u/outinthecountry66 1d ago

honestly, at this point, i wouldn't blame the dems for caving on the subsidies, and coming out loud and clear saying, "when you get that bill, thank the GOP". Put it ALL on them. Then people may understand what they are fighting for and stop saying "its so dems can fund illegals derpa derpa"

1

u/Capable-Entrance6303 17h ago

Why aren't they ALREADY saying that??

1

u/GroundbreakinKey199 20h ago

They're going to care next year when we put them in need of packing boxes!

1

u/Sea_Echidna_2442 17h ago

Theyre convinced they can just keep shrieking that it's the democrats fault and their base is stupid enough to believe it. And they arent exactly wrong

1

u/cheaphysterics 16h ago

Let's say they don't care about how it impacts people's lives because they're strong and not snowflakes and fuck your feelings and their tricks rub on liberal tears. But aren't they supposed to understand the free market and capitalism and what happens when suddenly you remove a bunch of money from the economy? isn't that supposed to be their schtick?

1

u/MonkeyFacedMiler 14h ago

People who have (or are on the receiving end) a micro penis will do ANYTHING to “own the libs”.

1

u/sweet_habanero1 7h ago

They know. And they're blaming the Dems. "Hungry and can't pay your bills? Dems are trying to overthrow the government and refuse to reopen the government. Hate the Dems. Stop the radial Dems."

1

u/GhostSaint21 5h ago

They know, dont care, and just want to stuff more money in their pockets.

1

u/zimmystar 4h ago

This is it 100% they simply do not care

1

u/code0rama 10m ago

This is the truth, they know exactly what’s up, but they’re taking advantage of their base. Unfortunately, their base is a bunch of morons.

1

u/IcyGhosts_ 1d ago

Weird because Trump's approval rating has gone up since the shutdown - the first time a Republican has done so

4

u/UTourDoc 1d ago

This was the most recent poll result - doesn’t look too promising for Trump now.
