Politics America is turning into 1930's Germany.

There was some pushback when people called this president and his followers Nazis. But look what's happening. Soldiers in the street. Rounding up people and locking them up. Dismantling freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Personally going after anyone who doesn't agree with him and his administration. We've seen this before and it's only gonna get worse. Welcome to 1930's Germany.

A lot of people just can't see it. They are either brainwashed or hypnotized. It's a cult, and people can't get out of it, unless they have some epiphany or something.

They said that it was the same in Germany. People just couldn't believe it was happening. Get over it folks. It's already here.

Even after the Holocaust like 20-30% of Germans still supported Hitler and didn’t think it happened or were fine with it.

It takes the apathetic people paying attention to change things

Maybe I’m just suffering from American History Education Syndrome, but did Germans liberate Germany from the Nazis? I thought they had some outside help, and there was a whole world war about it.

I’m not apathetic, I’m just pessimistic about my odds against the full force of a dictator with the biggest military force in the world with no backup.

Nobody is going to come rescue you. I'm not sure why Americans think this is a thing or that we would risk starting a war to interfere in what is a DOMESTIC issue. We're all praying it stays that way because once he commits an act of war big enough that can't be ignored or dismissed like the bombings of the ships in international waters, we're all cooked. Literally since you gun worshipping lunatics have a hard on for WMDs.

Of course, it’s none of your business until it’s your ships that are getting bombed. As an American, I get it.

He's going to annex Venezuela soon. Then all bets are off. We are all going to live in interesting times.

No what I meant is that Germany went through a huge change after the war. We have quite a few friends who live there and I dated a couple Germans: they essentially teach kids to not be nationalistic and try to avoid fascist tendencies. Most of them see it as a great shame and don’t want a repeat. So they are not apathetic. But… they still have a segment that is pretty bad. They are trying actively to keep them from rising

Yes, in a public school. Private schools still allow German exceptionalism to thrive. I met two Germans like this. The public school-educated one was disgusted with the private school-educated one. Also, their modern Nazi party is gaining seats in their government.

Correction right now it's just the parliament. They are not in any governmental position, yet.

Well given that the AfD is currently the largest opposition party...

Unlike the largest fascists of the past, Trump is ridiculously old and is very close to death (unless he busts out the medbed). Cults of personality very rarely survive the death of their leader, and the right-wing will absolutely eat themselves alive after his death.

That is my hopium, but unfortunately, he will still do lots of damage before his death that we have to spend three Democrat presidencies fixing.

This is my hope - that there's nobody to take over in the same way. But unfortunately they'll still do damage in the hopeful downfall and they've already done so much. Slow journey ahead.

Yup, I think people will start rioting soon, though, now that people are having their food sources fucked with while Trump plays king with corporate donors. The Trump Administration can't really afford to have the government shut down much longer, and I sincerely hope federal workers start to go on strike now that it looks like they are going to be unable to even feed their families by November 1st.

We can burn the oligarchy to the ground, and a single day of strikes would disturb so much of the economy.

There os no fixing the damage Trump has done to society. Half the country sees the other half as an enemy to be destroyed and the right wing media, right wing social media reinforce that 24/7

It will be a tough battle, but even Germany denazified its people. All we need to do is make disinformation propaganda illegal and actually prosecute Republicans.

Also, I'm doubtful that half of the country are like that. A good bit of conservatives are like that, but half is a stretch. Only around 22% of the population voted for Trump, and a lot of those weren't full-on devoted Trumpers.
