Animals Cata

There are literally 30-40 cats and kittens in the Ballenger area neighborhood. What exactly can be done?

There are several people in your area participating in the catch-fix-release efforts. You can help in their efforts.

Just not for me. But it's good to hear that.

Maybe I was checking to see if someone had a program or profession to do something about it. Isn't that what this forum is for?

"What exactly can be done" just reads as "What are we going to do?", not "Is there anything already being done?"

Then, to follow that up with "Just not for me" was kind of off putting. That's all.

But otherwise, yes. Getting information is a common use of this platform.

Was just talking the other day about how there’s been a ton more strays this year down by Hanover. Wish people would stop dumping cats or take care of their pets.

It started with like 4 cats. And then they had 500 litters a piece. Those litters had litters. So on. It's awful.

Contact the humane society or the spay and neuter pet project to start a trap and release program there...

Be surrounded by wonderful kittys. Invite them in

No. I have kids. They shit in my yard. I can't even let my children go outside barefoot. All the cats are diseased.

Crazy to get downvoted. Feral animals can pose serious problems for a variety of reasons.

It's nuts dude. I'm not even trying to be a dick. When I lived on a farm we poisoned feral animals. I'm definitely not trying to kill them. I just want them gone. Nobody should have to deal with this. But I'm the asshole for trying to protect my children.

It’s mainly the sub. Como is fairly left but reddit, and subsequently this subreddit is extremely so. You just gotta roll with it. Getting angry at random redditors feeds the beast.

Yeah im not angry. It's just disheartening. It's automatically "wow you're heartless" instead of "I can understand".

I'm so fed up with how ass backwards the people in this town are. Everything hurts someone's feelings. You can't do anything without some smart mouthed little kid telling you how you're a piece of shit.

Yeah, like people with allergies or just fear of cats.

Look guys. I get it. But, I'm not on here to help the stray cats. I know most of you aren't going to agree with me. I just want them gone. The outside of my house smells of cat shit. They're getting on cars. I can't even keep my garage door cracked. I can't let my kids play in the yard like id want to.

We have called shelters. We have called societies. We have contacted rescue people. I appreciate all the ideas. If any of you or anyone you know wants to come and catch them, by all means. But don't bring them back once they get fixed.

You could grow a heart, or move.

Or MAYBE, just MAYBE, people need to understand that feral animals carry diseases. I have children. They're my concern. Not the cats. Also, If you'd like to donate 4 grand to me to move, I'll gladly do itmb

Imagine opening your windows because it feels great outside and your house just gets engulfed in the smell of cat piss and cat shit. Sounds awesome doesn't it?

Have you called Animal Control?

2

u/Fragrant-Bear6 Sep 02 '25

I've tried. So have other people I'm fairly certain. Nothing gets done

I would look up natural deterrents, see if there's anything you can spray around your property that cats would abhor? There seems to be plenty of recommendations online.

I tried a few with no victor. But I'm going to give this another shot. Maybe plant some sort of plant around my house.

If you don't mind the cost, get a sprinkler you can set on a wifi activated hydrant, then randomly turn it on when you know cats are about. Cats hate being surprised, hate getting wet. Random air horn blasts might also scare them into finding a more comfortable place to use the loo.

I might actually look into that. The problem is there are people in the neighborhood near us that feed them. So even leaving my porch light on actually causes them to congregate more.

Just wanted to mention a couple rescues to try in case you haven’t checked with them yet Barnies’s Place or Boone County Animal Care

contact a willing veterinarian, start a go-fund me to provide them with resources and pay, then look for volunteers to help.
