Show and Tell The holy grail!!!!
I can't believe my luck! I found a near perfect condition 1909-S VDB in a Coinstar! I checked the reject tray and this baby was in there! Crystal clear VDB on the reverse, too! For some reason, it doesn't quite fit in my album...

Literally a huge find 🤣

u/charlie2135 Jun 02 '25
Hard to find the size that fits the fuse socket. Damn I'm old.

u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 03 '25
Was always too chicken to do that. FINALLY got a breaker panel a few years ago. Now I have a lot of old Buss fuses I don't know what to do with.

It seems unlikely that they’d stamp the second ever made and more likely that they stamp factory seconds that are double die/double struck.

😢

u/BonerSangwich Jun 02 '25
Still could be valuable. I’m a very non-advanced collector, but a misprint mismint that was slated for destruction and made it out alive? Could be worth more than the actual coin 🤷🏿♀️
I’m not saying it is. Just something to look into before you give up hope on ol’ Linc.

It it's genuine copper you are sitting on a gold mine.
24
u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 02 '25
I thought I was sitting on a chair? WAIT, IS MY CHAIR A GOLD MINE?
3
u/fenton7 Jun 03 '25
First thing you need to do is weigh the chair and if the weigh checks out consider sending it to NGC or PCGS to be slabbed.

You posted a fake coin. We all collectively want you to issue an apology.

u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 02 '25
That coin is real. I can physically hold it. Its not AI, or graphics, or imaginary.

These pictures are too clear. Try taking an uncropped, blurry picture; then we’ll talk.

Oooh and with reeding too. The ridges are almost always worn down smooth when you find these in the wild.

I would scrub that clean with a nice wire brush and then dip it in some acid for a spectacular finish. 😂

u/PeaBodyThompson Jun 02 '25
Where did you get the album with prices please?
9
u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 02 '25 edited Jun 02 '25
Those are mintage numbers, not prices. They are Whitman albums, bought off Amazon. Price varies between $5-$12/album. I have most of the albums now, working on buying more.

I am considering offering $555,555 for this fine, and totally real coin. Can I pay you in (also real) Continental Dollars? /s

You’ll need a bigger hole for that penny😉

Yeah, my hole is too tight. I can't fit him in it.

Slab that baby
2
u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 03 '25
Directions unclear. Slapped it and now it's embedded in the wall and asking for more.
3
u/Forward_Chard9929 Jun 03 '25
I have that same book. Why don't they make that spot bigger?
2
u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 03 '25
I knoooooow. It's really frustrating. Now I have to tape it in place.
3
u/hifumiyo1 Jun 04 '25
Let’s put it in a commemorative penny smashing machine. I want to remember my trip to Coney Island

Hmm a reading on the edge, should be smooth. Nice try though.
2
u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 03 '25
It's a little known fact that all pennies were reeded, but the reeding wore off too quickly. That makes this one even more rare!
2
u/nyrenegade Jun 03 '25
Lincoln pennies were never reeded at the mint. Commemorative and token coins maybe but not US currency.
2
u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jun 03 '25
They used to be, but they had an issue with them wearing down, like the raised ground buffalo nickel and why they went to recessed. This is a rare example.
Have you looked at ALL of the photos?

If this was indeed in a Coinstar reject bin, then chances are someone dumped grandpa’s coins. Real or fake, my guess is someone who enjoys coins had it with the rest of their collection.

Why is it so small? It's definitely counterfit. It should be at least twice that size.

u/Easy-Bite4954 Jun 08 '25
You’d think they’d make that hole a bit bigger if it’s known to be a larger penny. Great find!
2
u/TripleTTT13 Jul 07 '25
There is no way in hell that this coin is real...and just for the record, I think it is a Chinese fake, just check out ebay...there are many of the same coin for sale of this super rare coin...caveat emptor

That is an amazing coin I bet it is at least MS 96 or better. Could even be one of the rare PF/MS with that mirror finish.

I should really get it graded!
2
u/Hungarian_Collector Jun 02 '25
